Right now, Ben Gurion airport in Israel is considered the most secured airport in the world. Are there any other airports with a strong security?

I would like to think all airports are secure, but I know the calibur of security personnel in the United States, Bin Laden himself could walk through and they would not know or care.

Manila's NAIA has got to be one of the most secured airports, you'd agree WANCH.

I had to undergo several security checks in NAIA-1 and 2 in NAIA-2. Unlike in Chek Lap Kok where you only have to undergo 1 check :)

I am not sure how you can measure the true securedness of airports, but I would assure you that O'Hare Int. Airport became even more secure after the 911! :runaway:
Groping by the airport security is way of life....lol :jk:

All US airports increased security after 911. The question with O'Hare and with other US airports is how many times do you have to undergo security check either domestic or international flights?

Good questions, I would say mostly twice with lots of padding and scanning while dogs are on duty for bomb and drug smell detection as well! :runaway:
But I would say that O'Hare has one of the most advance survillance techonology in the world, don't forget that it is ongoing with extension and fascility improvements, I figure that billions of dollars also have gone into security as well! All cause by some terroist threat plan about ST from miami couple weeks ago! They got arrested by FBI before they even step into Miami Internation Airport....lol! :bash:

In the US, I think the main airports are the ones that serve, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, Washington DC and New York. Security in these airports are tougher.

I have never been to Ben Gurion but I have been to Manila's NAIA 1. Before entering the terminal, you have you show your passport and ticket to an airport security. Once you're in, you have to undergo a security check before checking in. There's another security check before you enter the boarding gate.

Yea, I would say that International Termianl security checks are much stricter and more repetitive, thanks to terroist activities!:(

Last time i was at the airport suprisingly Tampa International made a bigger deal with inspections then at JFK. At tampa they made me take off my belt shoes and go through the detector and then screen both my things in the tray and me with a handheld screener. This was a while back (2003)so i dont know how things changed, etc. In 2004 the last time i was on a plane it was basically the same.

When I went to Hartsfield-ATL, I was made to take off my shoes, and go through the metal detector twice because I had my hands in my pocket for the 1st time... something I didn't have to do at Heathrow.

I guess CPH Airport is pretty standard when it comes to security.
The most "complicated" immigration procedures and airport security checks I've ever experienced was at Toronto Lester B. Pearson and at Chiang Kai Chek Intl. in Taipei.

It much less hazzle-free at Newark, Hanoi, Saigon, several Chinese airports.. and so on. Quite surprising in my opinion.

Even the local terminals. I flew to NY from Long Beach and I had to go security checks as well. Long Beach Airport was pretty small compared with the likes of LAX

Not sure about Long Beach, because that city really have nothing to worry about from terroists??? But I know that NYC doest so they better make damn sure that their security are up to standards or even better than Chicago O'Hare in the sense that we are ALWAYS on alert instead of what happened and regret! :sleepy: That is the Chicago way, can't speak for NYC and other big metro... :)
How secure is HK's airports?

A lot of the security occurs behind the scenes. The typical traveler won't see them.

Hong Kong's airport security is really harsh on enforcing the cabin luggage allowance. They will check your boarding passes diligently and there is an immigration counter upon departure for further screening.

The least was when i flew into Budapest Airport. There was gates where we got our passports stamped, but after that it was baggage collection and straight out. No customs at all.

I was only ever padded down once, at Amsterdam Schipol. It was probably cause i was wearing a jumper in the middle of (European) summer.

Ben Gurion airport is by far the most thorough security screening I've ever had to endure. Unless it has changed recently, before you check in, one has to go through extensive questioning by Israeli security personnel. They typically ask very detailed questions. If you were there on business, they will ask what you do, do you have a biz card, where you stayed, do you have a hotel bill, what company you were seeing, who you met, do you have their business card and contact details, etc etc. The company I was seeing even gave me a letter to present to security. It also definitely helps if a local is there to vouch for you.

Arrivals are also scanned very carefully. I was pulled at immigration because something in my profile caused a red flag. I regularly go to Malaysia on business and for holidays, and that was cause for an extensive interrogation (Malaysia of course being a Muslim country).

NAIA in Manila ranks up there in terms of number of checks. Three security checks (again, that may have changed as I haven't been back for a couple of years), including one patdown. But my impression is that the security can be a bit haphazard. Definitely nothing close to Israel...

PS/ Wanch, if I may ask, why are you 'stuck in the Philippines'?

It's according to what Terminal in NAIA. Terminal 1 has stricter security checks compared to Terminal 2. But so far, there's no shit happening in Manila's airports.

The only thing at Ben Gurion that struck me as out of the ordinary, was the questioning that they do while you wait on line to get your luggage inspected. They asked me who I stayed with, where I went, how long I was in Israel for, etc.

On the way to Israel, from Newark Airport, El Al had the same type of security. They asked me why I was going to Israel, where I was visiting, who I was visiting, if I had family in Israel, if I spoke Hebrew (after I answered "some" they asked me a quick easy question in hebrew), where I go to school, where I live, how long am I staying for, etc. It may seem like alot, but its done very quickly in a very non-intimidating manner. Also, since its done while you wait on line to check your bags, it doesn't really set you back at all time-wise.

Phuket Airport a little more than a year ago, so i dont know if a lot has changed:

- security check with screening the bags when you enter the airport.
- same before check-in
- same after passport control (without bags of course...)
- same before boarding

i was damn surprised that they do that... but never mind, it's better then getting blasted...

Zurich airport two weeks ago:

- one check before entering the gate

hmm, poor for us swiss...

Amsterdam three days ago:

- one check after passport control
- one before boarding

Bahrain:

- one check before check-in
- one check after passport control

It doesn't surprised me that Ben-Gurion is the most secure. Their planes must be as well.

Anyone visiting Israel or Ben Gurion must be really patient when being faced with these kinds of questions.

It is quite hard to say, but I have heard a lot about Ben Gurion.

I do think that many airports in poor countries a less secure than those of the rich, since they will be more prone to corruption.

NAIA Manila, of course! At terminal one, one has to be body-searched and luggages are already screened, causing long lines. After that, one has to undergo another body search and luggage screening before entering the boarding gates. The same procedure is done in terminal two. The management even planned to ban handcarries, meaning everything has to be checked-in. Sometimes when you bring a laptop, you have to turn it on during security check. Too bad if your laptop is slow. You'll surely get those stares from passengers.

Is there any statistics or studies done about the most secured airports in the world? All I see here are just personal recounts which is only based on their own personal experiences which seems to me is very limited. I don't think that there is anybody here that has been in every single airports all over the world, there is not enough gauge to compare except on a certain limited airports every participants here had mentioned.

In the US Id say Dallas. Not only are the metal detectors hyper sensitive, but they also have a new machine that shoots air at you to check for bombs I guess. Its pretty cool.

When I travel I always wear the same clothing. Its allowed me to see which airports have more sensetive machines. In Sao Paulo, I got through with coins. In Miami, they beeped. In Dallas, my freaking belt beeped. I didnt know it was made of metal...

Hawaii airports have strict agriculture control. You have to pass your baggae through a machine just to get into the airport, then again after checkin. When you enter the gates, standard metal detector, and then in the gates you have to go through another agriculture check.

Dubai was very secure to me...security checks and passport checks almost everywhere!

Anyone else who has been there should know about this.
