Yuval August 3rd, 2006, 08:26 AM I need these stickers! I want to paste them all over Israel! I think I might go and have a few printed according to this design, as long as it's not trademarked.
Last night I had a dream that I was in Beirut. I landed by plane on a flight diverted from elsewhere. While all other passangers were escorted to the terminal, I slipped out, walked through a breach in the fence surrounding the tarmac, and was surrounded by the nocturnal outskirts of the city.
Around me were apartment towers and small boxy buildings climbing up the hills. I thought it was a beautiful city, asking to be discovered.
I then walked south along the coast to where some ship was docked. On the way bombs fell, explosions were heard, and I could see fire. By the ship's dock was a small souvenir shop full of greeting cards and postcards, some of them bore words in Hebrew, but I can't remember what they said.
I chose not to buy them for fear of being caught with a hebrew greeting card in my pocket. Instead I kept the Lebanese currency as a souvenir and as a gift to give my sister's husband, who collects money notes.
This morning I took a walk to the beach here in Tel-Aviv and saw huge military helicopters carrying soldiers to the north. those inside them are actually landing in Lebanon as I write this. I thought of a verse by Billy Bragg.
I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist, but for the helping hand
Theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is my faith in my fellow men.
Theirs is the land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor.
Theirs are the skies all black with bombers
And mine is the peace we have between the wars.
.
B-Patriot August 3rd, 2006, 11:43 AM Interesting dream... So you're Israeli? Israel-born? ^^
I like the stickers, its really cool how they're supposedly found all over NYC.. :)
Yuval August 3rd, 2006, 04:17 PM Yes, I'm an Israel-born Jewish Israeli. My parents were born in Israel and my grandparents are from various places in Eastern Europe.
Are you Atlantis - born?
.
Shohad August 3rd, 2006, 07:41 PM Are there any “I like Beirut” stickers? I have trouble with big commitments.

Are you Atlantis - born?
No, but you already knew that.. :) Atlantis is a lost 'mythical' city..
IBeacher August 4th, 2006, 12:44 AM I didn't know where to post first. The title of this thread seemed most appropriate. I have been looking through all the photo threads and have been reminded of the beauty of Beirut that I grew to love while living there as a child in the late 1960's. Having lived thru the 6 day war in 1967 and being evacuated from Beirut to Rome I can only imagine the emotions you are all feeling. I pray for your safety and that peace will return to you and your beautiful country.
We lived directly east of Pigeon Rocks and could see their tips from our balcony a few blocks off the Corniche. I attended ACS near the American University from 1965 thru 1968. Someday I hope to be able to return.
Be well.
Terry
Wild el Bahrain August 4th, 2006, 12:57 PM Yuval be careful if you are going to do spread those stickers...

Thank you for your concern but there's no need to. Contemporary Israel is blessed with a reasonably solid sense of political tolerance and open discourse. Most likely, no one will give me trouble if I hand them out, barring the odd vocal argument. Hell, this place is swarming with very diverse and conflicting bumper stickers.
My one reservation is that the Israeli public needs to be targeted with a different, more direct message, my friends and I are working on it right now.

lebgurl October 21st, 2006, 05:04 AM ^^ u know on some level, I dont really like that liquor companies are taking advantage of the political situation in the country to make ads. Yea they're witty, but there should be a limit on this stuff... then again, sadly this is the lebanese way of handling things.
Lebanese Cedar October 21st, 2006, 05:05 AM ^^I fully agree with you...
Beiruti October 21st, 2006, 06:23 AM ^^^^ I see your point guys, but you have to admit the fact that they are making the effort to acknowledge Lebanese issues and relate to us is something that should make us proud.
I love this one:

Excellent advertisement...
I just noticed its also the LF flag
I'm not sure if that was intentional. I think they just wanted to have the Lebanese flag on the face and the only way to make it look good was to make it circular in correspondance with the face.
This organization should be non-partisan.
