Melbourne, Australia
HEIGHT: 175m
FLOORS: 43 floors
COMPLETION: 1990
ARCHITECT: Peddle, Thorp and Walker
Built in the Nineties period in the Post-Modern style
Notable architectural features :
A complex building featuring a blend of modern and post-modern elements in an effort to be sympathetic to the surrounding streetscape (one of the first to be influenced by the new podium planning policies). Podium base featuring mock neo-classicism and chicagoesque styles is stretched by way of curtain wall massings which are divided into a vertically layered building which is crowned by a set of set-back cornices masking a flat post-modern renaissance styled roof and mock iron lace crown. Subtle detailing in the curtain wall glass evokes traditional square windows, and the effect is of an indecisively modern but elegant building.

Jasonhouse May 3rd, 2003, 06:10 AM Rather bland glass box left over from the 80's...At least it has some setbacks and a decorative top, which actually make it a PoMo tweener.
7.0/10
X-seed 4000 May 3rd, 2003, 08:12 AM The tower looks very nice in the third picture. It's a box, but I love it's sleekness. :colgate: 8.5/10

I love the corners and setbacks but the roof is too tame. Nice facade.
CTroyMathis May 4th, 2003, 10:21 PM 6.5 for the interesting near-post-modern features.
Chad May 5th, 2003, 12:00 PM If this building is a watch....I would say its Swiss Made.....;) .....8.5/10

SteelCity32 May 5th, 2003, 11:07 PM it's basically a box. But a nice one.

nice tower
Trances November 13th, 2003, 04:02 AM The few set back do gove a very formal strong look as towers
vertically layered has worked to not makeit look flat and give it real depth for all angles. Roof feature not that impessive but covers lift and service rooms so still does soom good
7.5/10
james2390 June 4th, 2004, 07:07 AM 6.5/10, would look better if it had a cone on top.:)
