Fireworks to light up sky and waters

SMOKE on the water, fire in the sky. A barrage of 15,000 explosions will fill the sky and waters at Marina Bay during the four-day Singapore Fireworks Festival, which begins on Saturday.

A crowd of 300,000 spectators is expected for each of the four shows which will be held on Saturday, as well as next Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, said Mr Alan Meng, a director from events agency Unusual Group of Companies, which is organising the event.

They will be standing only 300m away from ground zero, the site of the new integrated resort. Each display, which starts at 9pm, will last about 15 minutes, five minutes longer than last year's show.

A stunning 150 types of fireworks will be featured, including some that explode on the surface of the water.

The fireworks will also be choreographed to music and the audience can sing along.

Saturday's show will be put up by a team from Italy. The next three shows will be put up by teams from Singapore, New Caledonia - a group of French islands in the Pacific - and France.

Some of the best places to catch the display are One Fullerton, Esplanade Park and Marina Promenade, said Mr Meng. Spectators are advised to use public transport to get there.

The event costs more than $2 million to produce and Unusual has set its sights on holding a fireworks competition here in the future, added Mr Meng.

I expect the show by Italy to be the most crowded since it's the first show.....hopefully it's worth waiting for.....:D

^^ O do wait for it, anticipate it, and go to see it if you can, babystan! :)

$2 million is a hell of a lot of money to shell out for fireworks, but Singapore seems to be able to afford it, so more power to them! :cool:

The greatest fireworks I ever saw in my life -- granted, I haven't seen many -- was on an Italian island. It had so much spirit and rhythm and beauty! :okay:

the fireworks pics are fine and i understand the time & efforts went into it.

however, in my opinion, it's too tightly-framed and lacks the depth.

Perhaps, you might want to consider taking fireworks in context with something else to spice it up?

Point noted.....:yes:

I know you are passionate about getting good pictures, but to be frank, after standing for 3 hours with 2 tripods(cos my friend ask me to chop place for him) and being just a mere 1 centimetre away from the crowd (while taking picture), C&C at this point of time isn't exactly easy to swallow....it can sound discouraging....:yes:

BTW, I don't think I'll change my location since my friend wants to take from the same spot(from my location, not much to take cos I'm facing the empty land)......:yes:

Great fireworks pics!

I was also down at the bay around 8pm after dinner...but the crowd was impossible...it was impossible to plant a tripod anywhere!

Yeah extremely crowded.....I have to plant my tripod at 6.20pm.....:eek:

The Singapore skyline is very elegant, everything seems to be in its rightful place and not the least bit messy...and with the addition of the new skyscrapers, it has that bit of futuristic look too. Together with the Marina Bay waterfront and the fireworks, its a really great sight...

Was there for the fireworks tonight...very nice...

If only the tops of all skyscrapers were open, it certainly would increase the viewing capacity of the fireworks display...rather than be squished down by the waterfront.

Tonight's was great...it had a lot of colours and there was a lot of the spamming of fireworks towards the end. The start to the fireworks was filled with some suspense too...

But the crowd was horrible... If only fireworks were set off from the middle of the bay and everyone was crowding around the bay instead...

When the New Downtown is ready, where will the fireworks be. Will it still even exist. Against the backdrop of the new skyline it would be damn pretty.

I am estimating how much money the shops would profit from the SFF....:yes:

There are an estimated 300,000 spectators for each event.....thats works out to about 1.2 million spectators.

If each spectator spends about S$20 for the event (food/transport/electronic products etc), then the whole event would generate about S$24 million.

The event cost S$2 million.

Good thing they are opening the new Sports Hub in 2011......they really need MRT for such places......very terrible having to walk for long distance after NDP show.....puts people off.....:yes:

A 3 car train to serve massive national stadium traffic flows...its going to get crazy...They had better increase frequencies throughout the system and improve crowd control skills by then. The crowd won't be as dispersed as it is now (where buses bring you to different train stations). Everyone will be headed to the Stadium Station outside the stadium. Its like Orchard Station in 2000, except the train will be smaller.

this year NDP fireworks were disappointing? i thought they were already longer than usual since the stadium is going to be torn down :dunno:

Yes.....it's disappointly short......:yes:

@Ignoramus: Yes, they'll have to increase the train frequency to ease the human traffic......:yes: Either that, or better crowded dispersion.....:yes:

Perhaps they can disperse some crowd to Nicoll Highway Station and some to Kallang.....:yes:

But I suspect with more entertainment and retail facilities in the sport hubs, people can choose to stay until the crowd get less, then go back in comfort.....:yes:

Those sitting on the grand stand side enjoyed full view of the fireworks. Also, timings for NDP Day Fireworks =>

First Set => 7:28 - 7:30pm (approx 3min)

Second Set => 7:44 - 7:45pm (approx 2min)

Third Set => 7:59 - 8:02pm (approx 4min)

Last Set => 8:06 - 8:07pm (approx 2min)

Some low level fireworks that can only be seen within the stadium are also released during the performances. I didn't post all the fireworks pics cos I took near to 200 shots.

The video I took for France's fireworks yesterday is about 12min. So, it's about the same.

This is the best of the 3 shots... seems you have mastered the use of black card.

thank you hya! I did not use a black card for that, just my camera's fireworks mode:gossip: (the other 2 were manual mode)
