A very symbolic building, but strip that symbolism away and its just a slim box with ugly sides.
SteelCity32 May 4th, 2003, 05:34 PM it's a big box...5/10
AppetjoekII May 4th, 2003, 08:53 PM A bit dull!! 6.5/10
Wu-Gambino May 4th, 2003, 09:03 PM http://www.mri2000.com/utils/freebies/b_nyc001.jpg
Ugly 4
New Jack City May 4th, 2003, 09:29 PM 6.5/10..Very symbolic, but they could have done better. The green doesn't work too well, but some days it looks great playing with the sun. NYC could have put a better skyscraper in that great location.
BTW, Thanks for poll edit, Raffles!
Wu-Gambino May 4th, 2003, 09:36 PM Some pics make the building looked curved. That would be cool.
CTroyMathis May 4th, 2003, 10:05 PM 5.5. It's probably more amazing how much technology is retro-fitted into the interior of that old domineering concrete and glass structure. Would love to see a new UN building constructed some day.
Mr. Detroit May 8th, 2003, 07:13 AM The one pic with the Chrysler in the background makes it look wretched. Other than that, I think the other pics make it look decent. The sides suck though, the concrete is not that great. The importance of that building is mind boggling. I'll give it a 7
renell May 8th, 2003, 06:05 PM it has great importance, but as Raffles said, take that away, it will be a dull box.. 6
The Messiah May 21st, 2003, 11:12 PM It has a symbolic value. But the tower itself just looks damn ugly!
4.5/10
BGT May 29th, 2003, 04:17 AM 5/10 I never liked this skyscraper.
AtlanticaC5 May 30th, 2003, 09:20 PM Not so special, but I'm nice today so I'm giving it a 7
ryan868 May 31st, 2003, 07:24 AM Good windows.. sides are bad though.. a very boring box..
heirloom June 1st, 2003, 01:27 PM 10!
i love good boxes! this is a good one plus extra 1 point because it's special.
De Snor June 8th, 2003, 11:04 PM boring box , significant or not !
Gustavo June 8th, 2003, 11:23 PM Eleganto box, significant or not.
10/10
Oaronuviss June 9th, 2003, 06:18 PM Meh... not very impressive, or good looking.

james2390 June 5th, 2004, 02:58 AM Im sure when it was built, it was one of the best and most advanced around. 5.5/10
rayman June 5th, 2004, 12:04 PM one of the ugliest scrapers of the world 3 or less
cgrassham June 6th, 2004, 01:55 PM Isn't there plans for a new UN building?
New Jack City June 7th, 2004, 02:06 AM Isn't there plans for a new UN building?
Yup, just about the same size and this existing one will be renovated.

hella good June 23rd, 2004, 12:57 PM Its a lovely little building, what are you guys talking about? It needs this upcoming renovation but its a classic! World famous!
I can tell im on my own with this one just like metlife.
7 World Trade June 25th, 2004, 03:17 AM i don't really mind this building. but when they renovate this they better replace the current glass with reflective ones (not ones that are reflective on some days and not on some others). to hide those annoying curtains. the building's all rite, but the glass is killing its approval ratings.
hey hella good, i like metlife too!
i give this building a 7 (this will be higher once they give this a facelift so it won't look gloomy on bad weather days)
rafaelfnunes July 4th, 2004, 01:16 AM i like this style of building
Randwicked July 16th, 2004, 03:25 PM Can look brilliant or crap depending on the angle, but an important internationalist landmark none the less. 8.
LibertyTwo July 17th, 2004, 02:22 AM This building has its good days and bad days
It is important for it's design, copying Lever House (one of my fav buildings) and moving away from the setback design and into international style II
for that it gets high marks, but yeah, they should just tear it down and start over, or better yet move the UN out of NYC ;-)
LibertyTwo July 17th, 2004, 02:23 AM LOL just read ^^, I should have read the last post before I reposted it in my own words
flex July 25th, 2004, 02:01 AM don't now how to rate it its nice but i don't think that it fit's(?) with the serouderings of the building. 6/10
Ral909 August 1st, 2004, 05:19 AM Cool for the 50´s, but.... We are on 2004!!!!
Looks a bit too old. Perhaps with good recladding it would look nice.
7.5/10.

Flatiron August 6th, 2004, 02:13 AM Elegant if a bit run-down. Deserves landmarking and conservation pronto.

SeeMacau August 8th, 2004, 04:45 PM When was this building built ??
It's a landmark in New York .. but I just don't really like the design of it
Should be tear down or renovate it ..

Monkey April 29th, 2005, 01:35 AM I hate this building, it's an ugly slab and one of the most unattractive skyscrapers in New York. An important symbol of power, yes, but architecturally it's just horrible. They should tear it down and build something majestic and soaring in its place. At the very least, it should be given a complete reclad.
5/10

Just a great landmark!
Though I agree it doesn't look good everyday, but the UN doesn't either, so it fits that its building reflect that :P
But on a good day, it looks amazing

Colonel Cadillac July 28th, 2006, 10:54 PM 9.5 for being very original, but only highrise forumers recognize this as special today.
The Baz July 29th, 2006, 02:38 AM I think it looks pretty great. I like the color and the slim design. For a box, it's very lovely not to mention the symbolism. 8.5

Very modern building at the time of construction.
Although if it lost ten stories, it wouldn't make a bit of difference!
