Nice moonlight reflection in the white protection foil of Elite Residence by the way.

Was that a residential tower too? ;)
Lion007 November 15th, 2011, 02:20 PM Do you know, how many skyscrapers do you have. I think more than 500.
AltinD November 15th, 2011, 03:16 PM MORE THEN 9000!
... seriously: There aren't that many skyscrapers, highrises probably, but skyscrapers no.
saeed November 15th, 2011, 08:50 PM For skyscrapers (200 meter +) I dont think there is more than 500 world wide. I checked on emporis, most of the major cities which Hong Kong, NY and Dubai were at the top with no more than 50-60 buildings each. The rest will be distributed on all the other major cities with average of 10 in each large city.
It sound unbelievable but true
tim1807 November 15th, 2011, 09:37 PM ^^ At Skyscraperpage I counted 700 buildings that are 200m or higher, and that are alle the finished buildings at this time, but in 2 or 3 years this number will be much, much higher.

Don't developers have to pay for cranes hourly or daily or something? Why don't they remove them what with some of the towers being on hold?

what do you mean by "will buy"?
virtually all units have been sold a long time ago. some are available on the secondary market (i.e. re-sale). and very few had been reposessed by the developer due to defaulting investors and are for sale again.
I have yet to meet somebody who has personally experienced the views from the Princess Tower and wasn't impressed.

I thought it would be hard for it to sellout since its such a huge project

I see. It is actually quite surprising how easilythese huge developments fill up after handover. The neighboring Torch Tower is filling really quickly. It would be a huge project for a small town, but at the speed Dubai is growing right now these super tall towers are only a small drop to fill. The city is expected to break the 2 Million mark the next couple of weeks.

nice picture
rgarrison December 13th, 2011, 07:51 AM that last shot is amazing!
SirAdrian December 13th, 2011, 01:34 PM Imre, why not go easier on the the image compression? You always hurt what could be good shots by inducing those artifacts.
This tower suffers more from it because of its detailed, scattered facade.
AltinD December 13th, 2011, 03:58 PM ^^ There's nothing wrong with Imre's pictures. Are you referring perhaps to those of Princess Tower and myself?
zaguric2 December 13th, 2011, 04:04 PM That is one of the greatest.

Victhor December 13th, 2011, 04:13 PM ^^ I love the lighting on Ocean Heights. That's awesome!
that's what I thought when I first saw the picture, amazing!
Dan Hochhaus December 14th, 2011, 11:49 AM ^^ There's nothing wrong with Imre's pictures. Are you referring perhaps to those of Princess Tower and myself?I had to look twice to recognize artifacts on Imre's Dec 09 pics, especially around the crane shaft. But no big deal... what can you expect from a 60 KB foto? PrincessTower's second Dec 06 pic is perfect, but almost 10 times bigger. Normally I'd overlook these details, and just enjoy watching. :)
PrincessTower's first Dec 06 pic has a reduced color palette, but for the sake of arts, I bet... anything goes. So thanks for sharing to you all!
Btw. the strange reflection on the new crown glass doesn't look like artifacts to me, perhaps there's still a protection foil layer on it.
Ed007Toronto December 14th, 2011, 07:24 PM Last photo is nice.
PrincessTower December 14th, 2011, 09:36 PM Btw. the strange reflection on the new crown glass doesn't look like artifacts to me, perhaps there's still a protection foil layer on it.
it looks funny in reality, too. not sure it it is foil - I'd say they've just never been wiped down. well, it will be shiny at the end of the day. can't wait for Elite Residence huge glass section on the top to receive its polish.
Regarding picture compression, maybe the guy was referring to the pixel size as well. I always find it annoying to re-size my images to 1024 max, which is the limit in photobucket (at least I naively assume that). my camera is full frame, so most of the details do get lost in fact.
SirAdrian December 15th, 2011, 12:03 AM ^^ There's nothing wrong with Imre's pictures. Are you referring perhaps to those of Princess Tower and myself?
Your cellphone pictures are a physical limitation. I'm pretty sure Imre's are just a post-processing limitation, namely way too strong JPEG compression. I don't think it's necessary in the age of broadband internet, and i'd rather see them less tempered with.
http://i.imgur.com/8fpCw.png
Left (Princess Tower's Photo, moderate compression), Right (Strong JPEG Compression)
AltinD December 15th, 2011, 10:52 AM ^^ I don't know, I personally use the "Smart Resize" option when I resize my pictures in Paintshop Pro. I've noticed that's seams to be the best option (or compromise if you will)
Imre December 15th, 2011, 12:56 PM Your cellphone pictures are a physical limitation. I'm pretty sure Imre's are just a post-processing limitation, namely way too strong JPEG compression. I don't think it's necessary in the age of broadband internet, and i'd rather see them less tempered with.
I am not doing anything special, the program resizing the photos, reduce the quality and place the watermark on photos, thats all.
SirAdrian December 15th, 2011, 03:01 PM Well just don't reduce the quality then, that's all i'm asking. I hope you can appreciate the difference in my sample. If a crane or an antenna becomes a *blob*, it's just not the same.
What program do you use? Maybe i can point you to the setting.
Imre December 15th, 2011, 04:22 PM Ok, I will try different settings tomorrow and we will see, I have visual watermark and ec watermark.
SirAdrian December 15th, 2011, 08:09 PM Great, thanks Imre.
If there is a setting in percent, around 90% is perfect (usually indistinguishable from the original), 85% is what i would use, 80% is fine, and the lower limit. Respectively, if it is not in percent but goes from 1 to 10, 8-9 is the sweet spot. Anything lower will introduce considerable artifacts in images. If your program allows you to simply keep this setting as a default, then it should cost you no extra time :)
Imre December 16th, 2011, 03:21 PM I tried but the result the same, probably during the resizing the quality became worst or maybe the size is small but I think enough for forums and internet.
germantower December 16th, 2011, 03:24 PM LOL an construction update is well an update. We have something called UPC for artistic photography. I am more than happy with Imre's pictures all the years i am here.

It's the 16th skyscraper project ever to do so, IMO, and - with Pentominium on hold and DAMAC Heights on flooding delay - will remain Dubai Marina's tallest for some years now. Topped out, that's great, will probably be the second to last building to be completed in Marina, next to Infinity Tower.
pablo2008 January 9th, 2012, 12:28 AM Almost T/O
Having seen the pics, the status should be changed to T/O
-TDN- January 9th, 2012, 05:25 AM The head of this building does deserves the word "Princess".
ZZ-II January 11th, 2012, 08:48 PM Supertall nr. 76 Topped out
Dan Hochhaus January 12th, 2012, 02:55 AM Astonishing, how fast the crown is getting done now. It may be a bit over the top, but emblazons the tower and compensates the many repetitive floors along the shaft.
Now there are 9 buildings with spire-crowns in the Marina superblock, most of them around the ruling Princess Tower. And this is the last one - the missing towers don't have spires...
^^ Did you count the Twin towers in NYC. Because that would make it the 18th. ;)Yes... but I took the WTC and Petronas twins as one project each.
TowerJunkie January 13th, 2012, 03:46 AM Shit. Am I late to the T/O party?
YAY!
Dallas star January 13th, 2012, 03:54 AM Looks great, I don't really like the tower block it's built in but I guess thats the Dubai style. I really like the spire also, great addition to Dubai!

MattToronto January 14th, 2012, 08:15 AM Agreed. Of all the monolithic square towers in the Marina, this is certainly the one that looks the nicest. Except of course Marino 101 in it's current state. Damn she's a fine skeleton.
PrincessTower January 14th, 2012, 01:49 PM on the podium you can now see through the scaffolding covered with green net that they have build this big arab gate style ornament over the entrance (similar to the ones close to the top). looks beautyful. i'm very impressed with how diligently they are adhering to all those little details initially invisioned by the architects years ago. bravo.

What were you expecting from a bunch closely packed of 400 meter towers?
I think the only difference between this (http://www.travel-images.com/pht/brazil78.jpg) and these towers is that the ones at the bay are just way taller and have more storeys.
PrincessTower January 29th, 2012, 02:29 PM so you saying to the left of this pic is the palm and right is SZR?
the atlantis hotel on the tip of the palm is straight ahead in this shot (between infinity and marriott). the front row of towers is parallel to SZR.

The dome and mast of Dubai's landmark Princess Tower has been completed, making it the world's tallest residential tower at a final height of 414 metres its developer said today.
The Dubai Marina development stands at 107 storey tall and encompasses basement floors, one ground floor and 100 above-ground levels. The project is in its final stages of development and expected to be handed over in the second quarter of this year.

New York & Chicago have also a lot of space; the driving force behind this kind of buildings is primarily the ambition.
AltinD February 22nd, 2012, 01:27 PM Economics and politics mostly. They can't sell properties to foreigners on already build up or occupied areas, so they venture on free land that the Goverment can manage freely .... and those places aren't exactly mid-town ... not that the vicinity of the Airport and the aproach flight paths would have permited that anyway.

IngMarco March 30th, 2012, 01:25 PM are they done with the dome? looks like there's still some missing panels for those strands but no workers are on top.
AltinD March 30th, 2012, 08:47 PM Surely there will be no workers on Friday ... it's weekend
IngMarco March 31st, 2012, 12:57 AM I didn't know friday was day-off over there.

I think in all Arabic countries Friday is a off day. It's like sunday or weekend on westerns countries. I find it weird though to work on sunday xD.
tim1807 March 31st, 2012, 12:11 PM I didn't knew that too.

Los Earth April 29th, 2012, 12:33 AM How many people will be living in the Marina cluster at one time? 100,000? 150?
Does anyone know?
INFERNAL ELF April 29th, 2012, 01:52 AM There are 763 apartments in the Princess tower and you can multiply that by roughly 4 since most families and people also have maids. so that is up to 3000 people just in that tower.
and its seven towers 300m pluss in the tall block wich each probably has about 500 apartment each, making out for 14000 people all in all and then we haven't even started yet on all of the smaller towers. Between 130m and 250m so about a hundred thousand sounds right. there dont seem to be any official numbers easily accessible. and some other sources do state around hundred thousand.

Only the penthouses have maids rooms. I would say the occupancy of those high rise apartments is typically 2 people on average. Families tend to choose to live in villa developments. Some units will be holiday homes and not used all year round, and a few other vacant between tenants moving in and out.
So all in all 1,500 residents maximum at any one time in Princess.
My guess for the marina is 70% working couples and bachelors, 10% tourists, 10% rich retirees, 8% children, 2% maids. Villa developments would be totally different.
INFERNAL ELF April 29th, 2012, 10:05 AM ahh i see thanks for the insider info Princess tower

comet the cat May 7th, 2012, 07:50 AM Hey PrincessTower guy, I have a question.
Are you in your apartment near the top of the princess tower now? Because if the tower is topped out, isn't it still U/C on the inside and outside until it's finished? Or do I have it all wrong?
PrincessTower May 7th, 2012, 09:27 AM ^^building is not handed over yet. snagging of the apartments is going on and getting close to the top by the end of this month. handover expected to start in a couple of months.
Kimiwind1184 May 7th, 2012, 09:56 AM Ugly name and ugly building. Too bad.
PrincessTower May 7th, 2012, 11:56 AM Snagging is in the 60s already.
Facade cleaning is going on right this minute on the sea side, which means completion is soon.
