i heard vn has been buying migs from the russian, and planning to purchase some f-16's or 22's from the US. but i wonder if this is true. i saw some airforce drill at the nha trang airport once in 2001 with a mig when i came for a visit. what is the status of vn air power right now does anyone know?

F-16s is junk anyway. Vietnam should stick with Su-30MK

Amazing, according to the graph on page 7 of the paper alone, vn seems to invest too much in military equipment (1935 tanks compared to the closest rival thailand 787 tanks). they should put more money into infrastructure instead and boost the economy.

Actually, most of Vietnam current tanks were obtained from the period 1975-1979 and earlier as part of military aids from Soviet Union,so we did'nt really spend money on them. It's easy to see why Vietnam has more main battle tanks than Thailand a country which hasn't faced any major conflict for the last few centuries. Its obvious to see that the main concern of Vietnamese government nowsaday has been shifted from military to economy.

Come on! i've heard too much off this! of people saying that their countries should buy the RApters from the U.S., without ever realizing that the F-22 is the most advance fighter jet type in the USAF's arsenal, and was prohibited from sell them to foreign countries, including allies and friends! this is why the USAF is the only one operating those stealthy birds ( like F-117, B1, and future is the F-22 ) out there!

F-22 is no doubt the most advanced flying machine in USAF, yet the most expensive one of its type. It doesn't make any sense at all if we try to buy one of those. Stick to the Russian toys (and may be French in the future) is a better idea!
