1) Anyone have any information on the "air raid" sirens you'll hear every once in a while? Where they're located, when they were installed, and what they're used for?
2) Who is Lady Hammond (of Lady Hammond Rd. fame)? Joseph Zatzman?
Also, feel free to use the thread to post any of your own Halifax questions.

Lady Hammonds was the wife of Lord Hammond. Hammonds Plains was named after him. I don't really know much more than that, but I guess he lived in Nova Scotia about 200 years ago.

I believe the siren you hear on a regular basis is the 4PM "stop work" siren at the Halifax shipyards.

Joe Zatzman was Mayor of Dartmouth in he 1960s.

Yeah, I hear that siren at noon as well. So thats probably what it is because it does come from the shipyard.

Thanks for the information so far, but I don't they're the same siren - I've only heard this one three times before and I've heard someone say it's a "civil defence" type siren on Bayers Road. I'll email the city to figure it out.
