A very thin sampling of the photos taken over a 3 day period.

What looks to be an underground fire. I couldn't find a phone so I hope a local took care of it. Aug 6th at 6:30am near Clarendon and Boylston -- check the news.

For those interested in the technical details I left the EXIF data in the images but they have been resized.

North End photos didn't turn out very well due to shadowing. Harvard, MIT, and UMass didn't seem overly photogenic. Rest assured that I visited them, simply didn't have a unique perspective to offer.

Surprising actually. I had no idea that Boston was that big. Skyline shots often seem to be of the BackBay portion of town, yet the area around the Government Centre is much more extensive. Took a fair amount of time to cover it. Combined with the rain and I wish I had an extra day to get out of downtown a bit on foot instead of just the immediate area around the rail stations.

Not too sure what I think about red bricks anymore, particularly for sidewalks. Winter seems to be pretty hard on them. My back was pretty stiff by about the 20th mile in any given day -- that normally doesn't happen. I was looking at my surroundings instead of my footing and inevitably I would trip on something pretty frequently.

Lots of people say the same thing. I think it's easier for photos and television to show the Hancock and the Prudential Building (The Back Bay) because it's
immediately recognizable as "Boston". Lots of the News Stations in town have that as their background for newscasts and the like.

My hope is that when/if the 1,000 foot tower being talked about/proposed will shine a new light on downtown and Boston will be shown as a complete skyline instead of the two signature buildings. I think it's a plesant surprise for people who come to the city to see the downtown skyline, was it for you?

The rain this summer has been pretty ridiculous. It's not usually this bad, I can't remember the last summer where not only has it rained a lot, but the rain was heavy, down pour. It's more Seattle weather, than Boston. I hope it didn't ruin your trip.

Yeah, I think even those of us who live in/around the city are sick of the red bricks, especially in the buildings. The sidewalks that are frequently being done with bricks give the city that old "cobblestone" feel, but in reality for someone who's out walking the city, they're more of a headache. You find these red bricks in more of the historical areas/neighborhoods, and I think they do a decent job of taking you back to the colonial times of cobblestone and brick but nowadays for people using wheelchairs and other disabled people, there have been complaints about the bumps.

I generally travel pretty cheap. Aside from the hotel and flight, I spent a grand total of $80 in Boston over 4 days. Frankly, I'm a bad tourist from an economic stand point. I never buy souvineers which really annoys customs, but they finally seem to have stopped searching me. :)

I did stop in at Legal Seafoods (swordfish) and one of the icecream places mentioned in the guide books. Otherwise it was un bon pain in the morning and a small grocery store for some fruits and veggies the rest of the time.
