Hi all,

I am new here, and I was hoping some of you would like to give me your thoughts about a disagreement I am having with someone.

I overheard someone refer to the Israeli Flag as a Jewish Flag and I corrected him. He asserts that because the flag was created before Israel was recognized that the flag is a symbol of Judaism and it is not incorrect to call it a Jewish Flag.

However I feel that the flag was created as a symbol of Zionism, (re: Israel) and rather than representing just Judaism or Jewish people it specifically represents the land of Israel, and always did.

Thoughts?

Of course it is the Israeli flag. It is completely irrelevant when it was conceived,
because it was designed specifically for the new Jewish state, i.e. Israel.
Jews do not have a "flag". However, the Israeli flag does contain a Jewish
symbol, namely the Star of David.

throughout history....the start of david was used to represent alot of aspects of the jewish religion and people affiliated to judaism....

if you go to places in Germany and such, synoguges, built in the 1300's have start of david on them..

No! they are not. they are full of charm. ...when u hit the road with one, you become a racer, become a skydiver or something else out of your routine self. They are made to convey dreams. Most european cars are just funny looking, mundane vehicles that makes you want to take the bus instead of driving. :)

I never understood this thread either. Just b/c there is a Star of David on the flag of Israel, does not mean that it's a Jewish theocracy. Turkey is a secular nation yet it still shows the crescent and star, symbols of Islam, on its flag. Also, Englands flag has the St Andrews Cross, but it's not a theocracy either. Therefore, religous symbols mean nothing on a flag.
