View Full Version : Favorite NY-Penn League city?
xzmattzx August 13th, 2006, 09:00 AM What's your favorite New York-Penn League city? The NY-Penn League's Ohio team is included in this poll, despite being a Midwest city, simply because it's still a NY-Penn League team.
The "/" indicates that the first city mentioned is a suburb or nearby town of the second city named. The "?" is there because I am not sure if the second city considers the team "their team".
Evergrey August 13th, 2006, 03:35 PM oh wow... this is a tough choice... there are a lot of great cities on this list (except Niles, OH... eww) ...
I went to school in State College, PA... beautiful, vibrant, pleasant city... Williamsport has much better architecture... but I would never live in Williamsport over State College ... Jamestown, NY is a pleasant city near Chatauqua... never been to Troy, NY but it has amazed me in pictures...
but I just might have to pick Burlington, VT... it's just a magical little city in the great state of Vermont... extremely vibrant, great culture, access to awesome skiing... close to Montreal and Quebec... it's a fascinating place
veryprotourism August 13th, 2006, 04:30 PM yeah, really tough.
wasn't this league home to the long defunct niagara falls rapids?
ROCguy August 13th, 2006, 05:10 PM I voted for Williamsport just because I really like that town.
bjfan82 August 13th, 2006, 06:07 PM Jamestown...I'm biased, I lived there for 10 years. I like Troy/Albany/Schenectady as well.

Yes, some teams that were a part of the NY-P League in the past 10, 20, or 25 years include the Niagara Falls Rapids, Watertown Indians, Pittsfield Mets, Elmira Pioneers, Geneva Cubs, St. Catharines Stompers, Hamilton Redbirds, Little Falls Mets, Utica Blue Sox, Welland Pirates, Erie Sailors, and New Jersey Cardinals.

wheelingman August 15th, 2006, 04:11 AM I would pick Lowell, Massachusetts because it is a rapidly rebounding, dense, and historic city and it is only 30 miles from Boston.
My second choice would be Burlington, VT.
xzmattzx August 15th, 2006, 04:43 AM The NY-Penn League might be my favorite minor league in affiliated baseball. Nothing like a baseball game in a towns dotted across the countryside.
The Appalachian League is also like this, but none of the teams have original names; they all use the name of their parent team (Bluefield Orioles, Princeton Devil Rays [nothing like a tropical coastal name for an inland moutain team   ], Elizabethton Twins, etc). Plus, I like New York and Pennsylvania more than Virginia and West Virginia.
