Well, yes we know. Of course it's nothing for you guys to be proud of. But I think it is one of the smart moves by the emir.
- This base makes US, Qatar's ally (which means the UK too of course).
- Qatar has relations with Israel, so another ally (not exactly an ally, but a "friend") .
- Qatar sends money to Palestine another ally on the other side.
- Qatar's foreign minister has a leading role in the current Lebanon cease fire negotiations...
The emir is obviously trying to make good relations with all countries on all sides.
I think the only important country left now is Iran...
I hope this doesn't offend anyone. It's just my opinion... Please share your opinion and correct me if I am wrong.

i found the title is unappropriate & unpatriotic. people might disagree regarding few internal matters with their governemnts, but not to the point of being ashamed of their homeland.
i remember that many political dissidents around the world were opposing the regimes back in their countries, but non ever stood up & said i'm ashamed of my country, they were ashamed by the policies of the regimes. so please be specific in your decleartion.
now, why would you be ashemd of qatar? because the country has one of the best records of respect of human rights in the world?, the country that provides you with free & advanced medical care?, free education?, interest free loans?, plots to build a nice & spacious house? , provides you (& still) with decent standars of living?. now, are those are a major reason of being a shamed of qatar?
as for the bombs being sent to israel from american bases in qatar, we, so far not sure of that & non of the internationa media reported that. and if so, remember that the defense agreement between qatar & USA states that qatar shouldn't interfer in the aerial shipment in & out the bases. case closed.
...more to come, GTG now.

^^ True, most leaders in the ME are either puppets or extremely afraid of the US so they never say "no". But even if this story is false--US weapons were transported to Israel through Qatar--so what? I could give you a million examples of US crimes in Iraq being launched from Qatar. The same goes for Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain...After all, US Central Command is based in Qatar. :(

denies shipping arms to Israel via QatarPublished
Friday, 8 September, 2006, 01:07 PM Doha Time
THE US Ambassador to Qatar yesterday denied allegations that Washington had shipped arms to Israel via an air base and army camp in the Gulf state during the month-long Israeli offensive in Lebanon.
"Those reports are totally false. No munitions of any sort were sent to Israel by the United States from Al Udaid air base or Camp As Saliyah during the recent conflict in Lebanon," said Chase Untermeyer.
"Military co-operation between Qatar and the US has been strong and remains strong, particularly in the common fight against terrorism," he added.
The Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported on July 24 that "smart bombs aimed at striking leaders of (Lebanon’s Shia group) Hezbollah will be transferred from Qatar to Israel."
The newspaper was referring to an order for precision bombs whose delivery to Israel from the United States was speeded up at the end of July at the request of Israeli authorities.
Washington has said the delivery was part of an arms contract signed in 2005.
Britain allowed US aircraft carrying weapons to Israel to make stopovers at British airports.
On Monday, Qatar became the first Arab state to pledge troops to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unfil), with an announcement it would send around 300 soldiers.
"We commend Qatar’s participation in the Unfil mission, particularly as it is the first Arab country to join this effort," Untermeyer said.– AFP

Asalaamu Alaikum Dear All!
I request you all to have a realistic and logical approach to this thread.
It goes without saying that most our Muslim brothers n sisters feel utterly ashamed and distressed of the actions of our leaders. I would not rather call it ashamed of my country because our countries are our motherlands while our leaders are hypocrites. Of our brothers may feel disappointed and their patriotism may overcome their emotions while replying but fact is a fact. Today, among the whole Muslim Ummah, I personally feel the people of Malaysia, Sudan, Syria and Iran should be proud of their country's realistic and somewhat developmental leaders who have resisted the foul plays of the Axis of Evil (USA, UK & israel). All others like Saudis, Al Thanis, Al Khalifas, Nahyans, Al Sabah, Karzai, Musharaff, Abu Mazan and especially Hosni Mubarak are worse than puppets.
Moreover, heros like Osama Bin Laden and his talibans etc are also serving israeli and US agendas. They are just cover pages of an evil doctrine to rule the world (especially Muslim world), written by jewish zionists. Another hypocrite group is the government Wahabbi clerics of Saudi Arabia.
All the Muslim Ummah is suffering due to the same evil leaders and the hypocrite cum political clerics. At this point, we need leaders like Mahatir Muhammad and Shah Faisal who can really serve Islam and the whole Ummah.
I am sorry if my comments offended anyone and please take this in the spirit of freedom of speech in realistic terms.
Thanks,
A Muslim from Afghanistan

because those kings and emir needs uncle sam to keep them in power. the kings do not want to suffer the fate of the shah of iran who were driven out by muslim clerics. it is uncle sam that preserves them and protects them from these clerics who had power over the brains of their islamic followers. without uncle sam who had hi-powered weapons and arsenal, those arab kingdoms would now be ruled by islamic mullahs and imams.

in my opinion, there are many people out there who were brainwashed by their parents into hating the people of the GCC. they think of us in lousy ways, for example that we're filthy rich, spoiled and support the oppression of palestinians and muslims worldwide. unfortunately for us, we're small and theyre big. if the day comes that we are threatened to be destroyed, all those people will clap their hands and laugh at us.

its true and 5% of those so called qataris are acctully just expats that seem to have the qatari passports..... so lets see 200,000 of a kind is very rare i really hope we dont go extinct in the next 10-20 years and thank god our shiekhs are easing the thing on us nationals since were really one of a kind...
