Here are some pictures of Lancaster County's beautiful scenery. The last pictures was taken along State Route 283, a freeway that connects Lancaster to Harrisburg. All of the other photos are from State Route 741, east of Strasburg (Strasburg is southeast of Lancaster). As I have mentioned many times, Route 741 is one of the most scenic roads I have ever driven on.

Most of the farms pictured are Amish farms. Also, it was that time of year to harvest the latest round of the corn and tobacco crops.

Why? Just curious cuz I hate it too (not the traditional farms... just the sprawl that's swallowing everything)

^ I hate the sprawl too. There won't be hardly any farmland left before too long.

Looks like the type of place that people call "God's Country".

Yeah, sprawl sucks.

Lancaster County is still very rural south and a little east of Lancaster (where these pictures are from). The sprawl is really along 283 from Lancaster growing towards Harrisburg and vice versa; Dauphin County is a better place to see sprawl though.

Yeah, sprawl sucks.

I always thought God's Country was reserved for very remote natural areas... like Potter County, PA... as opposed to a heavily agricultural region.

Maybe. Everytime I've heard it, it's been agricultural. However, agricultural areas due tend to be remote. I think alot of people just make the call based on the, let's say, certain aroma of farmland.

Exactly my point, at one time only a few years ago tobacco farms were everywhere in So. MD, but after the gov buyout the only tobacco farmers are the Amish in St. Mary's nd Charles count.

Yeah, I like the farms too! But like you said, it's just a huge sprawl, you see all kind of random stuff along side state routes in Lancaster Co.

The "God's Country" signs are all in the central PA post-coal boom podunk towns.

They often call West Virginia "God's Country."
