Hi all...

I have seen in most forums that there is a thread for presentation. Here all users/members/visitors can present themselves by talking a little about their life and other stuff!!

I think it is a great idea! dont you think?

Well, I will present myself first LOL

My name is Suzan, I'm 24 years old.. originally from Lebanon and been living in Qatar for one year!

I like this website because since I came to Qatar and seen so many projects.. I am just loving the idea of knowing more about other projects as well.. I think it is quite interesting all what's happening in Qatar these days.. seeing a country like this grow in a tremendous rate.

Nice meeting you all!!

Ciao!

Suzan :)

Hi, Suzan and Wassim!

For the newer members ....

I'm Yasmin, 20, born and bought up in London and my family originates from India. I'm a student currently studying Business along with Finance in London. With my partner spending more then a decade in Qatar, we had thought to settle there as his parents reside on a semi-permanent basis too. Hence I came intrested to know more about Qatar, which is what bought me here. Though plans changed and now my partners arriving in London tomorrow to join me. Maybe plans could change again ...who knows about time!

Alrighty.. this looks like fun.

Name: Michael Steer
Location: Always lived in South Australia
Age: 33

I work as a Combustion Systems Engineer, and more recently have expanded that to Flame Effects Systems Manager. I am involved in the design, construction, installation, commissioning and running of various industrial burners and now flame effects around the world. This gives away my particular interest in the Sports City Tower Project of course. My most interesting projects to date would have to have been the Sydney Olympic Cauldron, the Athens Olympic Cauldron and Rings of Fire effect... The Sports Tower however is also going to be one awesome addition to those.

Other intests I have are music, and lots of it... Downhill mountain bikes, basketball and would love to go rally driving.

Lots more to tell one day, but that is me in brief.

Nice to meet those so far, and hopefully more will share a little of themselves as well.

Hello all....I know I dont post much on the Qatar section, but its a section I have to check EVERYTIME here on SSC.

My name is Faisal. I'm in London, and moving to Dubai soon. I'm 24, and I'm a financial analyst. I dont do much activities or hobbies, but I love music (hip-hop, R'n'B and rap) and I really enjoy reading (snooze I know). Last time I was in Qatar was about two weeks ago. I visit Qatar every once in a while. I think its an amazing country, by far my fav in the GCC. To me its seems like the only country that is really moving in the right direction in the gulf.

I love Qatar!

I'm 24, I live in Bahrain, and I work in Saudi Arabia. I work in a consultancy firm for strategy and project developments for midsized to large companies. I visit Qatar whenever I get the chance since I have family there (like most Bahraini people). I lived most my life outside the gulf untill about 2 years from now.

Music is what keeps me awake on the saudi-bahraini bridge early in the morning :colgate: , so I love listening to all kinds of music. I'm not a gym rat, but I like to keep in shape. I love traveling, so I'm blessed I got to see many places all over the world.

Very good topic iniative!

I'll take a moment to introduce myself too:

I'm 23 years old born and raised in Belgium. Currently I'm finishing my last year of study at the university in Ghent (city in Belgium).
I came in contact with Qatar when I was doing my internship with a Belgian construction company as a civil engineer this summer. The company is Jan De Nul and the project consists of the extension of Ras Laffan port. A major and incredible site!
I had a very good time in Qatar though it was hard working. The restaurants and food were really good. Also the night-life on thursday was a success, however I'm used to party more in Belgium ;-) Nowadays I'm still interested in the further development of Doha and environment and that's why I'm passing by sometimes :-)

In my brief stay of only six weeks I usual visited the Paloma (intercontinental hotel) and Rydges on wednesdays and thursdays. Especially the Paloma was lots of fun, too bad everything closes at 03.00PM.
I've visited the Mariott also once but i didn't like the shows there. Much too many noise!
As for just going out for a nice dinner and chit chat I recommend that Japanese restaurant in the Mariott, the 'french cuisine' restaurant in the neighbourhood (forgot the name) and something else a little bit more modern. (forgot it also :bash: )

Hello, my name is Rashid Ghassan Phares. I live in the United States but I am hoping to leave for Doha, Qatar as soon as I find a job. I'm looking for a job in the entertainment industry, specifically with Al Jazeera International. I speak English only but I am very interested in learning Arabic.

I'm excited about GCC projects and am patiently awaiting the arrival of the shared GCC currency. I hope to live in Qatar before the currency is initiated in 2010.

I am looking to make friends and if anyone knows people from Al Jazeera or other media companies please let me know! My msn messenger username is Rashid.Ghassan.Phares@hotmail.com . Feel free to add me if you would like to chat.

Also, I am reverting to Islam.

Hi Rashid! Welcome to the forum!
I have done two formal interviews once in Aljazeera International and got accepted to work there. I was supposed to start after a month.
Didnt receive any call regarding it, so I decided to call them instead.
Once I called, they informed me and apologized that it cant happen as they were not able to do anything to recruitment anymore. (Unprofessionalism I call that)

Thank God I didnt resign from my current work.
I have serval emails you can use for applying. Let me know if you want them.
Good luck!

Again, welcome to the forum :)

I was in Transit yesterday in Doha, from South East Asia on my way to Zurich. Was able to have a birds eye view of Doha from the plane and I throughly loved the skyline. Unfortunately my cam was in the luggage and I was not able to make any pics:bash:
Progress on the Pearl looks very good and the Aspire Tower looks great.
I think Qatar is the best place in the Gulf region. Less crowded than Dubai and Abu Dhabi, more space than Bahrain, more open than Kuwait.
I will tune to the Qatar forum much more in the future:)

not this thread thaaron probably another thread this is the first post he ever posted in the lusail thread

Hi all

you have no idea how excited i was when i saw all those discussions going back and forth about Lusail..

i could not help myself so i signed up to share few facts with you..

i think i have quite good idea about Lusail, its beginning, details of its components and the whole idea behind it..

i assume this is not goingt to be in one shot, so i hope you can be patint with me..

first of all..

Lusail.. do you know what does it mean?

you will say it ithe hestorical name of the area so the project was named after it.. an that is TRUE..

but why is the area called Lusail..

let me share this interesting information with you..

Lusail is the short name of WASAL.. (Tasgheer)

just like Wakra and Wekair..

and Wasal is a name of flower/plant that was founded in the area..

so they called it Lusail..

i'm not sure if you ever visited the area, but it is not lat and because of that rain water, in some seasns, created a good environment for this plant to grow by itself.

if you looke carefully at the logo, you can realize that it takes the shape of plant, well the inspiration behind it was theoriginal flower WASAL

The logo of Lusail represent many things:
- it forms the shape of the plant which the name comes from.
- it represent strength because this plant growa by itself in a very diffecult environment and so is this project. i is going to create one of the most unique cities in the world in the middle of the desert (isn't it azing)
-the colors and the shades of the logo represent the richness of the area, the golden sands and the flamy sun.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm what else.. i think this is it for the name and the logo..

by the way.. the movie which you see in the site was pictued 100% in Qatar, the sand dunes in Unsaied, he park in alBidaa, the building is the Planning Authority Tower oppisite to City Center and the pool in one of the houses in the West bay Lagon (AL-Qutaifiya).. the interesting part that even in the hots that shows high rise buildings, the originals were rplaced by new created ones using a tehnique called CGI..

the whoe idea of the movie is to give the viewer a conceptual idea of the project, it isnot supposed to show you how is it going to look exactly as mush a it concetrated on how the place will feel like.. each person, at a different ages has his own view of the future and a dream of the place wherehe wants to live and that is captured when the camera zooms into their eyes and takes you in a journey of what is the city that lives in their imaginations.. but dreams come true some day and (your imagination lives in Lusail)..

i guess this is more than enough for today.. hope that was useful not boring..

i can give you clear description of the project and its different areas if you wish..

Waiting for your comments..

Have a nice day

QatariDiar :)

Hi and welcome to the forum as a member :D

I think VCU-Q used to be only for girls untill this year, so you will be one of the first boys graduating from there. :D good luck

There was someone from AUD in here, didn't see him for a while. he might be in Dubai sub forum.

^^ Very nice, Ahmad, I have a Syrian friend from Hims region.

My name is ....Skyprince :D, i am 22 ( will be 23 soon ), now Engineering student, living with my parents and lovely sister and lil bro, i am always the fan of Arab countries. I've been to Oman and UAE and like them a lot ! Next will definitely be Qatar, Syria, Jordan, and Bahrain.

lool Salman, some one from AUD here, that probably me, coz i signed up for the website last year as i don’t know what happened to you account, i posted a couple of posts and then lost it. now ia m back. and nice meeting you Sky prince, and yes you should definitely go and visit those places, where you from anyways? i am going around this summer, Syria, Lebanon for family visit and then Jordan, Turkey and Palestine/Israel is i do get the permission from my government hopefully. yes hopefully i'll one of the first male students to graduate from VCU-Q since it became co-ed only this year, but i might go to CNA for a semester and then transfer to VCU, i have some problems with transferring as they need a better GPA for courses transfer. so if i do go and raise my GPA, i can transfer more than 10 classes, almost 35 credit hours. so that means that i could be the first male graduate since i am ahead of all other guys in the university.....Bingo….light me a candle please, thank you very much

i am not sure whats dewaniyah is exactly.......all i know that there its a restaurant here in Doha that is a typical Qatari restaurant with those private separate rooms where you can set on the floor and dine Arabica style.....the restaurant called Dewaniyah Al-Bukhari........i am not really sure what’s is what, but one of those tow words means the meal and the other means a private room.........anyways, whatever it called, I just point at the pic and i have it.......yummmmy    yummmmyyy yummmmy....you should definitely try it when you come here. And yeah of course, we must meet up when you drop by Doha. Just skyscraper me and let me know.

Between, can any of the Qatari’s in here explain to me whats is what? Thank you

ha ah ah .. shaiju doesnt mean anything..its just a name. you know the kinds with no meaning . am not sure about arabic but i think it was developed from the indian word for tea which is 'chai' .. which is quite famous even in the western countries.
