View Full Version : Shimon Perez
Katoom August 18th, 2006, 01:04 AM A friend of mine said that Shimon Perez called Saudi Arabia a moderate (or modern) Arab State.
Can anyone confirm this? I mean i grew up in Saudi Arabia, and i know it isn't Anti-Israeli in the sense that it didn't fight Israel, and it denounces Hizballah.
And if Shimon Perez said it, is that what the majoraty of Israelis think?
RoM August 18th, 2006, 03:50 AM Its probably likely he said it, and Yes I think thats what most Israelis think... Israelis see Jordan,Egypt,Saudi Arabia,Tunisia,Moroco, Qatar,Bahrain and more as moderate countries.... Israelis just have a problem with Syria and Iran which are the devil nations (at least their regimes)
WhiteMagick August 18th, 2006, 11:23 AM But does Saudi Arabia recognise the state of Israel? Isnt it just Egypt and Jordan?
smussuw August 18th, 2006, 12:08 PM no it doesnt but all the Arab countries agreed that they will have a full deplomatic relations with Israel if it go back to its 1967 borders.
RoM August 18th, 2006, 02:10 PM They dont but I think most of arab nations these days belive and even support Israels right of existance except of course... Syria and Iran (who said repeatedly it wants Israel wiped off the earth)

Iran wants Israel wiped of the face of the earth, but i think Syria couldn't care less wether Israel exists or not, but it is being very anti Israeli so it can maintian its alliance with Iran and its control over Lebanon.
RoM August 18th, 2006, 08:35 PM Syria and Iran must be stopped somehow....
Shohad August 19th, 2006, 12:21 AM As a world citizen I don't think KSA is moderate. It is a monarchy based on Islamic law, with all the ramifications of this on human rights and freedoms. On the other hand it cares about life quality much more than it cares about the destruction of Israel which is logical and welcomed. They also see the threat terror poses to the region and it seems they are a stabilizing factor in this hood. Unfortunately, I don't see it recognizing Israel anytime soon.
I also suspect that there are Saudis who would welcome business partnerships with Israel. I have heard their minister of tourism implying such a thing before. This is despite laws that restrict Jews from entering the Kingdom, heh.
belgiumguy August 19th, 2006, 02:31 PM Just go back to the 1967 borders and jou'll receive all the love and acceptance jou need:)

As a person who grew up and studied in the Pre-September 11 Era in Saudi Arabia, i can honostly say that September 11 changed Saudi Arabia just as much as it changed the entire world. When i was in school, the most important subjects in Saudi schools were religous studies, and we were taught to hate "Infidels" and especially the Jews. they would also glorify Jihad. After September 11 they changed the curriculum. And plus the new Saudi King is smart and trying to modernize the country.
When it comes to human rights (especially women's rights), they country is one of the worst in the world. No freedoms what so ever.
When it comes to recognizing Israel, in the future the government might recognize Israel (if it withdraws from the 1967 lands), but the saudi people hate Israelis, and it will take them a loooong time to accept the fact that Israel is here to stay.
DoNo8765 August 19th, 2006, 05:43 PM The borders after 1967 were formed because states like syria, Egypt, Jordan had attacked israel hoping to wipe it off the earth in return israel had the right to attck back and they captures some land..... No need to attack israel and then cry about the land!
ZOHAR August 19th, 2006, 05:50 PM NO POLITIC THREADS!
