View Full Version : Number Of A380 Gates In Your Airport? ignoramus August 19th, 2006, 12:48 PM How many A380 gates are there, or will there be in your airport and by when? Which carriers will fly the A380 to your airport? Cristovão471 August 19th, 2006, 12:56 PM 500 Tyson August 19th, 2006, 01:18 PM MEL has two gates specifically dedicated to the A380, with aerobridges reaching to the doors on both upper and lower decks. The airport will most likely see the A380 regularly from Emirates, Qantas and SIA and there is a good possibilty that it will also see visits from Thai and Malaysia Airlines. pflo777 August 19th, 2006, 01:30 PM MUC ( Franz-Joseph-Strauss) 2 As far as I know at the new-built terminal2 from the beginning. But they could easily increase the number. As its partly owned by Lufthansa, they are also the ones to use it there. Maybe Terminal1 will also be equipped with 1 or 2 A380 gates, as some assume that emirates will use them(maybe) zee August 19th, 2006, 01:48 PM dubai's new airport will have 17 if my calculations are right Filip August 19th, 2006, 02:51 PM Toronto has 2, I think, on Pier F of the new Terminal 1. I don't know if there are plans to put A380 gates on T3 though... Toronto will be seeing A380 service from Etihad airways and possibly Emirates (as I've heard they're wanting to expand to TO). DiggerD21 August 19th, 2006, 03:49 PM Although the A380 lands here on the Airbus site, I don't know if Hamburg Airport has at least one gate ready for the A380. But on the other hand Hamburg probably doesn't need one in the next years because it offers with some exceptions only flights within europe and countries close to europe. Bren August 19th, 2006, 06:10 PM Paris CDG : - 2 gates ready end 2006 - 9 gates in 2007 - 11 gates in 2009 -Corey- August 19th, 2006, 11:12 PM I dont know superchan7 August 19th, 2006, 11:54 PM I believe Hong Kong's airport (1998) was built to be ready for double-deckers. Tricky August 20th, 2006, 07:04 AM I think in Sydney there will be 2 gates initially (from early 2007), with a further 4 to be built further down the track. So 6 overall. But I'm not too sure. spongeg August 20th, 2006, 09:59 AM Vancouver is constructing its new terminal right now which is going to be able to handle them i am not sure how many gates it will have though uno August 20th, 2006, 01:06 PM 5-6 Gate in Suvarnabumi Airport (New Bangkok Airport) earthJoker August 20th, 2006, 01:31 PM In Zürich there are 2 gates at the dock midfield that could handle the A 380:http://www.zrhwiki.ch/w/images/c/cd/LSZH_%E2%80%93_Dock_E_02.jpg One at each end of it. The Jettys for the upper deck aren't installed yet, they would be installed only if an airline plans to have a regular A 380 flight to Zürich (Emirates has plans for it) Wezza August 20th, 2006, 01:36 PM Townsville = 0  The Queensland state capital, Brisbane will have 2 A380 gates online soon. Giorgio August 20th, 2006, 01:45 PM 380 SE9 August 20th, 2006, 04:17 PM Heathrow T3 has four A380 gates, two of which can handle 2 A380s at once. T5 will have 14 A380 compatible gates by 2011. crossbowman August 20th, 2006, 04:32 PM That gate thing with the A380 is a great problem...and it will be reducing its destinations worldwide. andysimo123 August 20th, 2006, 07:24 PM I think Manchester has 4. They have also built two new stands at the end of the apron to accommodate the A380. Terminal 2 is beening changed to handle more people, from around 7 million a year to 18 million a year this will likely include more apron changes to handle more aircraft. Taylorhoge August 21st, 2006, 12:59 AM Im not sure about JFK yet but most likely since Terminal 4 was recentley rennovated and there's enough space Im not sure about Newark though. EK413 August 21st, 2006, 08:17 AM SE9 Greenwich Borough Heathrow T3 has four A380 gates, two of which can handle 2 A380s at once. A matter of fact the NEW pier at T3 is designed to handle 4 A380s at once not 2... Qatar Son 333 August 21st, 2006, 11:45 AM ... ... Qatar Son 333 August 21st, 2006, 11:59 AM dont know but the new doha intenatonal airport ndia is under construction to welcom the new qatar airways a380 by (2008-2009) heres some pic http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8375/2rd7.jpg http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/1912/dohatowerpu4.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9072/f0p5s7id9.jpg http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7209/a340600qatarairwaysfwwcpcn740tgv1.jpg http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/4752/tfhgghbhsr4.jpg http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/5051/qatar2au8.jpg http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8020/733qatar210603tt0.jpg http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/5387/102o8leay7.jpg http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/4547/10050910qfmk1.jpg Wezza August 21st, 2006, 03:23 PM That gate thing with the A380 is a great problem...and it will be reducing its destinations worldwide. The A380 can use the same gates 747s & other large widebodies use. The double decker gates are just for easier boarding & de-boarding. The thing that might hamper A380 operations in and out of some ports is runway & taxiway widths. vincent August 21st, 2006, 08:52 PM I believe Hong Kong's airport (1998) was built to be ready for double-deckers. the airport was designed for A380 operation in most cases, except minor stuff like jet bridge design. But HKIA just finished changing two or three gates to accommandate A380 recently. Not sure about the details though, like whether it will have two or three jet ways going to both upper and lower deck. p5archit August 22nd, 2006, 05:15 AM I don't think it is just a question of boarding and deboarding of the planes via two levels, but rather the space inside the terminals- these areas will have to accomodate a lot more people now. Thus gates are being enlarged and if airports have the money they are building double decker boarding gates. p5 dchengg August 22nd, 2006, 06:21 AM i was thinking of having people to board a A380 from two different floors of the airport, like if they were to board the top deck, they would go upstairs before reaching the gate, and if theyre on main deck, they would board normal, so... like... if upstairs... the gate would be like 26A and for main floor it would be 26B... and wont cause congestion as well! Æsahættr August 22nd, 2006, 07:27 AM I have no clue if Minneapolis will be supporting a380's... I doubt any would fly there... Tricky August 23rd, 2006, 01:42 PM ok, I've just read the Changi thread, and it says that when Singapore's Terminal 3 opens in 2008, it will add 8 A380 gates to the 11 A380 gates in Terminals 1 and 2. That's 19 gates capable of handling the A380 (by means of dual airbridges).... that must be the winner I think. xDieselJockx August 23rd, 2006, 06:29 PM I have no clue if Minneapolis will be supporting a380's... I doubt any would fly there... None of the US airports are A380 ready, I don't think we are expecting these monsterous aircraft in all US airports yet . You know ? Loyalty with boeing. But how knows .... HD August 24th, 2006, 12:26 AM frankfurt international has 9 the new terminal 3 will have 75 gates of which a substantial number will be a380 capable SE9 August 24th, 2006, 08:19 AM SE9 Greenwich Borough Heathrow T3 has four A380 gates, two of which can handle 2 A380s at once. A matter of fact the NEW pier at T3 is designed to handle 4 A380s at once not 2... Uhm.. the new pier (Pier 6) at T3 has four A380 gates, two of which can handle 2 A380s at once. johnsonooi August 24th, 2006, 09:25 AM I have no idea about no of gates for A380 in KLIA, but i am pretty sure that the earlier design of all gates is capable to handle A380, which all the gate rooms are 2 levels... |
