I noticed that many Moroccans do not freally eel African or a part of Africa, so it would be interesting to know what do you really feel, after beeing Moroccans :)

Mediterranean & Judeo-Muslim... :|
(-> I consider myself more "Moroccan/Rbati from Andalussi descent" than "mediterranean" or "Judeo-Muslim")

reda i have the same question as zohar, what do you mean by judeo-muslim , because you are either muslim or jewish not both in the same time. did you mean the moroccan jewish who converted to islam?
i checked the link you gave to zohar but i couldn't find a clear explanation

i think he basically meant, whether u describe ur self by ur religion, and since theres judaism and islam in morocco he put those 2, not to lump them together

Well It means that you describe by your religion or the one your ancestors :)
I have many friends for example who are atheists but they still consider themself as Muslims or Jewish :)

thanks reda , you way you put it in the poll was a little bit confusing , but now it's clear
by the way you could also add christian too, because they represent 1% of the population while jewish represent 0.2% and muslims 99%

I think the identity would first be mediterranean, african-amazigh, jewish-muslim, arab.
After all I feel that there is an important difference between Moroccans and people from the gulf area. At the same time, there is much similarity between Moroccans and West Africans. So, in referring to africa I mean West Africa.

Finally the fact that most Moroccans have some degree of Amazigh/Berber blood means that they are Africans and to a lesser degree have some jewish traits, since many Berbers were initially Jewish that converted to Islam.

As for religion, I feel that it is a matter of private sphere. People should act as they want. Hence, while being Muslim, you dont go introduce yourself to a person you dont know as being Muslim. That is between yourself and God.

As I know, the christians living in Morocco are not of moroccan descent... But the description by "Judeo-Muslim" doesn't refer to religions but to "jewish culture" and "muslim culture"... :)

Moroccans are Africans

well Morocco is the only African country that is not a member of the African Union, even though the reasons are mostly political.

Good point conquest.
But as you can note, I mentionned Moroccans (hence talking about the cultural components of the country), rather than the political.
As you know not only does the AU exclude Morocco (one of the most developed countries in Africa), but it includes countries that do not exist according to the UN. (RASD) hehe. I hope Morocco can rejoin the AU, since it was among the creators of the organization, and help with issues that affect Africa.
I think Morocco shares much similarity with Western African states, such as Mauritania and Senegal.
