View Full Version : Hungary
Pet, the Hun August 20th, 2006, 11:53 PM With this topic will I give a scant taste of a less known country, from my home. We are coming from East and we want going to West; for 500 years Hungary were a strong kingdom in Middle-Europe, with great leaders, kings, and generals. After the heyday, here foughted the Ottoman- and the Habsburg-, later the Nazi- and the Communist-empire with one another; frequently foughted the Hungarians to our freedom against them. Historical cities, beautyfull landscapes, and the culture of 1100 years, that will I show here.
Pet, the Hun August 20th, 2006, 11:58 PM Today is the feast of the statefounder king, I. Szt. István (St. Steven I.) He was the greatest leader of the hungarian history. Without him, Hungary remain in East and parish, like the other barbarian empires. On the horns of a dilemma, he guided the land in the direction of the West and the Christianity.
Pet, the Hun August 21st, 2006, 12:30 AM At first: this is Esztergom, the first seat of the kingdom. The palace was build in the late XIIth century, before there here stayed an another, less royal building.

in Hungary: "Lengyel, magyar két jó barát, együtt vív és issza borát."
It has an origin in history - Louis I of Hungary, Stefan Batory, Revolution of 1848...
1440 - Vladislav (Ulászló) I on the Hungarian throne (1440-1444)
1490 - Vladislav (Ulászló) II on the Hungarian throne (1490-1516)
1576 - Stephen Bathory (Báthory István), Prince of Transylvania (1571-1586) and Polish king (1576-1586)
1848-49 - Revolution in Hungary (Jozef Zacharias Bem and Henryk Dembinski, the legendary polish generals of Hungarian army). Bem was fondly called "Bem apó" (Bem Papa).
General Jozef Bem:

I thought Hungary and Germany were actually allies during WWII. This is funny how fast history is forgotten.
(For those interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Hungary#World_War_II)
Qtya August 31st, 2006, 07:07 PM Hungary was forced in that alliance, not to mention our country was occupied by Germany from 19th of March 1944... You must know our history before writing anything. :)

pt82 August 31st, 2006, 11:49 PM There is a large Hungarian minority in Slovakia, about half million, 10% of Slovak population. What do you think in Hungary about "felvidék" (upper region of Hungarian empire, known as Slovak republic). Recently I read in Newspaper that some problems in living together appeared. Some not very friendly behaviour between our two countries.
Bikes September 1st, 2006, 01:17 AM Glad to see two new Hungarians on the forum! Sziasztok srácok! :)
About the problems between Hungary and Slovakia, eliminate the anti-hungarian party from the Slovakian partliament, and case is solved. But anyways our ministers are on the diplomatic way, and hopefully things will get better. To be honest both sides are to be blamed, but this is really very low and primitive... I like Slovakia a lot, and i'm sure most Slovakian feel the same way about my country.

I don't want to discuss the problems between our country and the neighbouring Slovakia. I have a theory but it's just not worth it to talk about... Hopefully the situation will get better, but personaly I don't really think that our governments will have anything to do with this...
Qtya September 1st, 2006, 01:37 PM Why dont we talk about and show the world some of Hungary's beauties? Or developments, constructions and infrastructure?
Bikes September 1st, 2006, 01:48 PM There were several Budapest threads by me, maybe they can be still accessed.. But i support you. Which developement do you think is worth to get a topic now? We dont have renders of the Moszkva tér reconstruction. I have posted info and photos of the new underground line before. Also the images of the upcoming motorways, but we could make a thread of the Hungarian Motorways in general, because imho we are quite good in that... At least compared to EE.
Qtya, do you maybe have renders or more information about the "Hungarian Las Vegas"? The gambling and hotel complex that is going to be built on the Hajógyári island..

Sorry Bikes I'm pretty new to this forum, so I haven't seen your earlier threads, but I like your ideas. A thread of the Hungarian Motorways in general would be nice, for example I have some photos about the viaduct built at Köröshegy on the M7 motorway/highway that I've shot recently.
But how can I insert images? I'm totally miserable. :wallbash:
Bikes September 1st, 2006, 02:37 PM I use my ftp to upload photos, but there are free image host servers, like http://imageshack.us/ , you upload a photo here, then copy the url they give, and then put it in the middle of this: [ img]http://imageshack.us/fdsgsdgsd.jpg[ /img] ,but dont leave room before the img tag and the /img tag like i did now.
Qtya September 1st, 2006, 02:45 PM Qtya, do you maybe have renders or more information about the "Hungarian Las Vegas"? The gambling and hotel complex that is going to be built on the Hajógyári island..
The Dream Island project is a hard one... Expecially in english... But I'll try, and do my best! As you know Budapest privatized the Hajógyári island a few years ago, but without Óbuda's, (the IIIrd district of Budapest (I'm not sure everyone knows.)) final organization plan that includes the scheme of the Dream Island project, the development just couldn't have strated. On the 22nd of June this year 100% of the reprezentatives of Óbuda supported the organization plan so the project recived a "go a head". But in the end of July or the begining of August some civil organizations like the "Élőlánc" succesfully appealed against the organization plan because of the planned developments on the Hajógyári island. The "Élőlánc" demanded a local referendum to be held over the organization plan in the early future. This "beside or against" referendum will be held on the 10th of September 2006, so this year. If the 50% + 1 of the participants will vote beside it, the project could start in the spring of 2007, if not... Everything could happen...
This was the information you were searching for, or something else, more concrete about the development?
Qtya September 1st, 2006, 02:50 PM Here are some links about the project and the IIIrd district's pressinfo on the local referendum:

Probably because Transylvania (Erdély) had/has the most political, historcal and economical importance. Not to mention the number of inhabitants.

Transylvania has the same meaning as Kosovo does for Serbs, as Hercegovina does for Croats, as Constantinople does for Greeks. Emotionally Erdély is the most important part of St. Stephen’s Crown (outside the present-day Hungary).
Of course I love the other parts of Greater Hungary too (Várvidék/Burgenland, Felvidék/Slovakia, Kárpátalja/Zakarpattya, Vajdaság/Vojvodina, Dél-Baranya or Danube-Drava triangle/Baranja or South-Baranya, Muraköz/Međimurje, Muramente/Prekmurje) and the peoples who live on these areas (Hungarians/Seklers/Tchangos, Croats/Bunyevats/Shokats, Slovenes/Vends, Serbs, Romanians, Ruthens, Slovaks, Germans/Saxons/Svabs, Jewishes, Cumans, Jases, Armenians).
I’m not a nacionalist, I’m a patriot. I especially love Croats and Slovenes, I speak these languages.
I always had the impression that the strongest emotional attachment was to Erdély (Transylvania)?
To je apsolutno točno. ;) Srijem pripada Hrvatskoj. Bez sumnje. :D
Qtya September 6th, 2006, 03:02 PM Sziasztok!
A szavazás menete
A szavazás szakaszai:
Az első, nominációs időszakban (július 21- augusztus 21.) várjuk az Önök névadó ötleteit. A beérkezett javaslataikra egyben szavazhatnak is. Ennek az időszaknak a végén a nevek beküldése lezárul. (Már le is zárult. Qtya)
A második periódusban(augusztus 21- szeptember 8.) a nominációs szakaszban beérkezett szavazatok alapján az első 10 helyre rangsorolt ötletre lehet a továbbiakban is szavazni. Nagyon fontos időszak ez, hiszen ekkor dől el, melyik három név kapja a legtöbb szavazatot, melyik három név lesz a befutó!
A legnépszerűbb javaslatok további sorsa:
Ennyit a hivatalos közleményről.
Én még a szavazás kezdeti szakaszában jelöltem a Bethlen Gábor - híd nevet és amint majd látni fogjátok elég szépen teljesített... 1,73 millió szavazattal a negyedik lett az első fordulóban!
A második fordulóban viszont elég rosszul áll.
SZAVAZNI EZEN A LINKEKEN KERESZTÜL TUDTOK: http://www.m0hid.gov.hu/
A honlap néha elég lassú, néha nem jön be, nyílván a magas látogatottságtól. Ez ne rettentsen el senkit!

Qtya September 6th, 2006, 04:33 PM Sziasztok!
A szavazás menete
A szavazás szakaszai:
Az első, nominációs időszakban (július 21- augusztus 21.) várjuk az Önök névadó ötleteit. A beérkezett javaslataikra egyben szavazhatnak is. Ennek az időszaknak a végén a nevek beküldése lezárul. (Már le is zárult. Qtya)
A második periódusban(augusztus 21- szeptember 8.) a nominációs szakaszban beérkezett szavazatok alapján az első 10 helyre rangsorolt ötletre lehet a továbbiakban is szavazni. Nagyon fontos időszak ez, hiszen ekkor dől el, melyik három név kapja a legtöbb szavazatot, melyik három név lesz a befutó!
A legnépszerűbb javaslatok további sorsa:
Ennyit a hivatalos közleményről.
Én még a szavazás kezdeti szakaszában jelöltem a Bethlen Gábor - híd nevet és amint majd látni fogjátok elég szépen teljesített... 1,73 millió szavazattal a negyedik lett az első fordulóban!
A második fordulóban viszont elég rosszul áll. So this letter in english, but briefly because I unfortunately I have to run...
In the mid-summer our government decided that the people can give the name of the new M0 bridge on the Danube. In the begining of the voting everyone could propose a name. I suggested the name of Bethlen Gábor who was a Prince of Transylvania. This name made it into the second round with a 1,73 million votes in forth place! But since than it hasn't got so many votes. So please help me if you dont mind.
You can vote until September 8, so we only got 2,5 days left. Everyone can vote once a day with one e-mail address.
You can vote on this homepage: www.m0hid.gov.hu
Unfortunately this is a Hungarian page so I have to lead You.
First, You have to go to this page:
When its loaded you'll see a 'REGISZTRÁCIÓ' word which meens Registration in the left corner.
Click on it.
When You clicked on it, the middle of the page changes and You'll see 3 boxes.
In the first You'll have to type your e-mail address as it is shown, then Your password twice in the 'JELSZÓ', and 'JELSZÓ AGAIN' boxes.
After You filled the 3 boxes, click on the 'REGISZTRÁCIÓ' button under the 3 boxes.
A text typed with red will show up. Now You can close the whole window.
You'll get a reply letter to Your mailbox shortly.
When You get the letter from: info@gkm.gov.hu open it. In the letter you'll find one sentence and your password. In the sentence there will be a word link in blue.
Click on it.
A new window will open. Find the name of Bethlen Gábor. Vote on it.
Then on the bottom of the page You'll find a button 'ELKÜLD' (Send), click on it.
You are finished! Thank You!

:cheer: :applause:

:ohno:
Bár kíváncsi lennék a Győri ETO FC stadionjára, hogy miként áll a beruházás, és vajon megvalósítják-e mindazt(http://www.etofc.hu/index.php?op=content&sel=43), amit ígértek...?
Nem tudtok vmit esetleg ezzel kapcsolatban?
Esetleg vkinek van képe a megújuló ETO Stadionról?
Menjen inkább in english?
Qtya September 6th, 2006, 08:18 PM BTW my fellow Hungarians, does anyone have an oppinion about the government's plan to move all the governmental facilities to one place?
Bikes September 6th, 2006, 11:14 PM Well, transportation wise it would be a good decision, but to be honest i havent read about this, maybe you have a source for this article? I'm reading mainly www.fn.hu, because i find it the most unbiased. So what do you guys think about it?
tersyxus June 12th, 2008, 12:49 AM BTW my fellow Hungarians, does anyone have an oppinion about the government's plan to move all the governmental facilities to one place?
LOL. Ggood idea? Nope. I have a hunch, they have no idea either why this is so urgent.
First the nyugati-keleti underground railway tunnel, then an ass-kicking gov complex. That's my point.
^^ my naive attitude back in 2006.
Anyway, now that K4's gone, what about the tunnel? :D
