Suggestions to make the Qatar forum better...

As Halawala is now I mod... I thought it's time to make this thread so we can discuss how to make this forum better. Everyone please post your suggestions...

Here are mine...
I think sticky'ed threads that aren't that important should be removed (such as Emporis and Qatar Airways threads). Then, important ones should be sticky'ed. Dubai Towers, The Pearl, Sports City Tower. I also think that Doha Construction Photos and Towers Under Construction threads should be merged and also sticky'ed...

What I think is..that a lot can be done to improve the forum! :)
Good idea about the important projects being stickied.
In addition, and just like the Dubai forums, I think the areas undergoing huge development, like West Bay or Lusail, should be subforums, and in it there is one thread for one tower. That is to say that threads like 'towers under construction' should be broken down in individual threads.

So I would see the different sub-forums this way:
- Sticky: The Pearl
- Sticky: Sports City
- Qatari Discussion Forum (free-style sub-forum where all threads not directly related to construction can be found: Qatari culture, Sports, Qatar Airways, etc)
- West Bay Forum
(1 tower/1 thread)
- Lusail Forum
(1 project/ 1 thread)
- Other Doha areas Forum
(can include Museum, central Doha, Palm Tree Island, al Waab City, etc)
- Outside Doha & Infrastructure Forum
(Al Khor development, Qatar-Bahrain bridge, etc)
- Qatar Investments Abroad Forum
(for projects abroad: Morocco, Egypt, etc)

I know this is a lot of work, but this is how I see the 'ideal' forum, that both gives easy use to us and gives maximum exposure to projects to outside visitors.
I'm more than ready to help if needed :)

I totally agree with you Massilia that this is going to be the ideal forum. However...
There is a problem! About the West Bay forum... You see each tower has a thread here somewhere. Making a subforum for them will probably make them much more accessible. But since they were almost unaccessible noone posted in them, so, all updates and pics were posted in the Doha Construction photos and the Towers under construction.

A solution would be to post again each picture in its relevant tower's thread. Which will be EXTREMELY time consuming!

If this is the only solution , I think we will all need to work together. Halawala won't be able to do it on his own. For example, each member takes a range of pages and starts posting each picture where it belongs.

Any better suggestions :S

I believe that what Qatar needs is a dedicated projects subforum. Maybe a skybar subforum,landscaping and photos subforums or business discussion subforum depending on ur needs.

We can always create threads in the main subforum too.

I suggest to keep it as it is.. this is how forums are..
The threads should have a topic of a 'real' project, whatever the status of it is: proposal, underconstruction..etc
I also suggest not to open new threads from nothing! We should build cool and informative threads..
other thing, information and pictures are dead over here.. i will start taking some pics since the gentleman are not doing so.. the girls will!
I will come up with some shots soon (whenever am free from work!)
Other than that, i think the forum is great, but really guys, we can make it better by sharing more information as well as pictures, because dont forget that we are not the only ones visiting the forum.. other people from outside are doing so as well, and I would really love to show them that there is going on 'real' work in Qatar, and that it is expected to become a great coutry soon!

Please any feedback will be more than appreciated.

What I was saying that the most of the towers' threads are now deserted! They haven't been updated for months. Moving them into a separate subforum, means the subforum will be dead too!

You guys thanks for the suggestions. But, I thought of having three sub-forums under the Qatari main forum. They are: 1. Projects Forum 2. Doha Photos and Construction updates 3. Sky Lewaan (otherwise known as the Qatari Discussion Thread and other not skyscraper-related threads such as Ashamed of my Country, and so on and so forth.I think having more subforums is unnessessery because as you said they will be dead.

So what do you think?

But I don't think that a pics and a 'chat' sub-forum are needed. Because we only have 2 threads for pics and only one discussion thread. It really doesn't need to have a subforum. Keep in mind also that we don't get much pics here. So, the whole subforum won't be active from time to time...

I got a better idea.
We can make a subforum for the West Bay towers, another for important projects (lusail, pearl, dubai towers, sports city tower) and another one for other projects everywhere else. For projects in Al sadd and other places, outside Doha and even outside Qatar.
Then the main forum could be used for 'chit-chat'...

Yes, that's a good idea, but we need to discuss this with other people, too. However, I think three is still good idea. 1. West Bay Towers (as you proposed) 2. Landmark Projects (lusail, pearl, DTs, SCT, and others). 3. Sky Lewaan (where all the other threads reguarding aviation QR, blah blah threads should go. However, the Doha Construction Photos part will be a sticky since it is important in all subforums. How do you like the minimal changes so far?

Al Lewaan is a Qatari terms meaning the open space in the center of the traditional Qatari home. It is where the family gathers and chat--so I though it is an appropriate name. Have you heard of Lewaan show in Ramadan?

Well I agree that 3 forums should be enough for now, like you said 1.West Bay 2.Others(with landmarks as stickies) 3.The discussion forum..
In my previous post i put the word 'ideal' into quotation marks cause i know that breaking down the forum into too small pieces could make it dead kinda..I mean, it's doable, but could the thread be 'fed' sufficiently, especially since many are/will be posting from abroad, that's another question.
Another thing is that we don't have many elements yet on some huge developments like Lusail...well let's see but in the future, creating a Lusail subforum may be useful, I can't tell you the mess when plots developments will be unveiled week after week, just remember that it's a 8 kilometer long coastal development + some islands + inland stuffs for 200,000 people!! Anyway we'll see...let's act like some junior UPDA people and let's do the improvements we can for now :)

I feel we should have one live master thread, ie updated regularly, of all projects with photos and short description of project.This should be locked and only updated by one person, preferably halwala since he is the mod, and we pitch in by giving him info, pics by email or something.

8. Interesting Articles

Suzan you have nice ideas but, I think for now these three sub-forums are enough. But, in the future when the projects really go rolling, we will add subforums. The Al-Khor project has been announced but we don't know anything yet about it.
