Abha is amazing, its THE Tourist destination for Saudis.

Snow isn't that common in Abha however the city is a cool summer getaway for the Saudis that live in boiling hot cities.

Nope its Snow, that has sort of melted on the ground. The kind of Snow you see right now occurs when temperatures rise in a small period of time from being subzero.

Kind of like freezing rain.

Saudi Arabia is a land synonymous with desert and excessive heat. Seeing snow in that land makes us surprised. I am sure Iran has snow--good for them. But, lets keep this thread green! The summertime temperature there I heard is lower than other parts.

Abha looks like a beautiful city. Interestingly enough I've never even heard of this city until digging around for Saudi Arabian information. I bet if you ask most people about Abha they've never heard of it.

Abha gets snow almost every winter, not a lot but usually around 4-5 cm of snow, i think Taif just east of Makkah gets snow too. It snows in the North almost every time.

I am collecting pictures of snow in unusual places. I knew it snowed occasionally in Saudi Arabia because when I was 10 years old, I remember Brazilian TV reporting on a snowfall in Riyadh (any pictures, by the way?). I thought, though, that the main place where it would snow in Saudi Arabia is in the northwest of the country, close to Jordan. I was surprised to learn that the Asir region, including the city of Abha, often gets snow as well. Does it ever snow in the mountains near Makkah? What about over the border in Yemen?
