This tower just started construction, so time for an update thread here. Construction can be set On Hold in the coming weeks due to bad protests from the neighbourhoud, which can stop the construction for about a year (!!). (that is dutch democracy...) Let's just hope that will not happen.

Nice to have an international update threat for this building. I hope construction really has started. One comment on the building diagram posted above: the Maastower is not tall enough on that diagram.

wow a lot of parking , no? why is it above ground line? on spain we avent got thos etype of parkings .. ^^

Skyscrapercitizen
November 4th, 2006, 07:08 PM
^^

It is a very small plot, the tower totally fills it's location. To put all needed parking underground (parking for offices but also some parkingspace for surrounding facilities like a theater) you should need to go maybe 25 meters underground or more, in this case underwater since the tower is build in the river.

In the dutch soil, nothing more then mud with some sand here and there, this is to expensive. If only underground parking was allowed, projects like this should not be possible on dense locations, only in areas where the underground parking can be bigger then the tower itself. But the parking will be hidden nicely, and the first 2 floors will have public functions, parking on ground level is not allowed.

Rotterdam has had a lot of 200+ proposals, but most end up being rejected, or being downsized. This proces also happened to this tower: It went from 220m to 165m.

eng_kheffa
November 26th, 2006, 05:37 PM
and the big question is why ?

NegaSado
November 26th, 2006, 05:40 PM
Most likely a market problem. Too few big companies looking for a place to go to in Rotterdam. There is a steady supply of new office space coming in at the moment, all from midrise towers. The range Rotterdam usually builds in is between 100 and 150 meters. Maastower is an exception, not a rule, unfortunately.

very nice building. i hope it's going to rise quickly after all the delays.

by the way, the maquette looks quite different from the render. which design is it going to be? i hope the maquette's, because it looks more modern and the vertical lines would give the building a higher perceived height!

im wondering whats the point of building in the river..

SkyBridge
June 6th, 2007, 02:46 PM
Does there have to be a point? What's the point of building on land?

JWvW
June 6th, 2007, 02:49 PM
first of all, why does everything have to have a point? why would a company spend more money on a more interesting looking building, doest that have a clear point? no not really, apart from esthetic reasons. it looks very cool to build half in the river. furthermore the second reason is that all the ground in that area is either already built on or has plans for construction. as a building on the river banks is very popular there, deloitte doesn't really have another choice.

im wondering whats the point of building in the river..

We're Dutch, and happen to be pretty much the best at water-management, land-reclamation, and any other construction concerning water. Rotterdam is the biggest port of Europe and one of the biggest in the world. This tower will be at a prime location, and since it is being built in the outer side of a turn in the road, it makes sense to partially build it in the water.

No I am absolutely not an Amsterdam hater, but the rivalry here in Holland between Amsterdam and Rotterdam is something you can compare with the BoSox vs. Yankees, Celtic vs. Rangers or Boca Juniors vs. River Plate rivalry!!!

Although I live in Rotterdam and me being a big fan of Rotterdam I do appreciate The Hague and Amsterdam as well. Both ared fine cities with a unique character and some stunning architecture!!!

Yes it is for now wit 164,5m, but there is the Zalmhavenproject which can take over a few years later (about 180m), but that project isn't approved yet.

Does anyone know the current ETC??

I read that they had earlier estimates for the end of 2008, but also Q1 of 2009..

It will be a very nice tower once completed.

Q1 or Q2 2009, certainly not earlier :)
And I agree, this will be a great tower!

21 march, lots of water. :)

The building site was flooded totday during stormy weather.
It should not be a big problem as the water is already receding and the building walls are watertight.
