So its a given that center city is the most interesting part of philadelphia. If someone visits philly they will most likely just stay in center city and maybe the Italian market. But is there in anything interesting along the el,subway, trolleys,or regional rail?doesnt have to be touristy but maybe some vibrant urban neighborhoods,or ethnic enclaves.

Yeah ofcourse!

You can take the R7 or R8 to Germantown, Mt Airy, or Chestnut Hill in Northwest Philly, which are all vibrant and interesting and historic neighborhoods.

You can take the R6 to Manayunk (which is an extremely "happening" neighborhood) or Roxborough, also in Norhtwest Philly.

You can take the Broad Street Line all the way upto Olney, which, although it is a little bit rough aorund teh edges, is a very diverse and vibrant neighborhood. A really Philly neighborhood.

You can also take the Broad Street Line down to many vibrant neihgborhoods in South Philly.

You can take the Market Frankford El or any Green Line Troley or any train going through 30th Street Station into University City (which is kind of like Center City, Jr.).

You can also take the Market Frankford El upto veyr vibrant and kool neighborhoods such as Northern Liberties, Fishtown, and Kensington.

Lots of options here....

Yeah, seems only city centers and ghettos ever get any press. I suppose that's why so many suburbanites have the impression that whatever city they live closest to is entirely a ghetto aside from downtown.
