View Full Version : Creation of a Sri Lankan Forum / Sri Lankan Roll call
Ashok September 4th, 2006, 07:11 PM Hello,
I personally think it would be cool to see Sri Lanka to have her own section. In order for a certain City/County/Area to have their own section; it needs to show a demand for it; that there are enough forumers to keep an active forum.
I personally believe we have enough forumers and, topics to create a Sri Lankan Section. However for a solid count, I would like to know exactly how many Sri Lankan forumers are currently active on SSC, and(or) how many forumers would participate in a Sri Lankan forum if there is to be one. So I would like to call out to all my Sri Lankan brothers and sister to voice their selves out on this thread.
Feel free to voice your support/view/comments/suggestion on the creation of a Sri Lankan Forum as well.
Thank you,
Ashok
Fusionist September 5th, 2006, 01:34 AM Aye for a Sri Lanka forum !! :)
Many people don't know anything about Sri Lanka apart from politics.. and this might be a good start indeed.
The only thing I would be concerned is activity. But then again I think we will have more patronage if we get a sub-forum
Bertez September 5th, 2006, 03:17 AM I'm in:D:D

PCK September 7th, 2006, 04:00 PM thre r 9 ppl so far...dnt u think thts enuff???
Fusionist September 7th, 2006, 04:22 PM thre r 9 ppl so far...dnt u think thts enuff???
hmm, I think if atleast 3 of the 9 are very active then it might work out. However 15 would be ideal though.
The Macau forum has survived with only 1 active forumer. Some of the African and Middle East forums are surviving with few forumers.. so I think there is scope for Sri Lanka section.
Keep posting more ;)
PCK September 7th, 2006, 04:28 PM and how do we get this dne in the first plc??? whos d dude v hve 2 gt thru 2???
TallBox September 7th, 2006, 04:35 PM Hi, I've been posting here for nearly 5 years now, I guess it's about time that there was a Sri Lankan forum.
My concern is not with membership who will keep it alive, but the actual (lack of?) building activity going on in Colombo.
The only stuff I saw going up were the new Crescat apartments this summer, I really hope there is more stuff, and more importantly somebody in Colombo who can feed us the news the updates regularly and reliably.
PCK September 7th, 2006, 04:45 PM well thre r enuff ppl in colombo (includ me!!) to post stuff....and its abt stuff goin on in the whole country, not just colombo, and it doesnt always hve 2 b abt building activites in sri lanka, it cn b othr stuff like sports n the entertainment industry in the country and a million other stuff!!!
Fusionist September 7th, 2006, 05:02 PM and how do we get this dne in the first plc??? whos d dude v hve 2 gt thru 2???
The issue will be taken up with the Mods ( who will be watching this with interest ;) ) and if they have enough confidence, and the idea is popular the Admins ( Jan ) will help create the new section. The India/Pakistan and Vietnam forums were the latest additions to the Asia section this way.
My concern is not with membership who will keep it alive, but the actual (lack of?) building activity going on in Colombo.
wow shaun is back..welcome :) !!
You could be very right if ti is all about high rises. But often it is more about urban planning, regeneration, transportation and infrastructure in general isn't it ?? Yes I do agree there is a lull in SL if compared to the boom in other parts of South Asia, but I still think there is enough stuff to go on about.
After all I think its all about creating awareness and interest amongst lankans about their city and urban plans and I think a sub-forum if kept alive with sustained interest from forumers will help a long way in that regard.
About actual number of forumes in SL.. hmm if you look at the Indian forum.. almost 3/4th ofthe forumers live abroad. Still there is enough interest. Same way I think there are a few forumers in Colombo who can do the ground work and keep the forum 'grounded'. Updating is no issue. Nowadays in the age of the world wibe web, news often get published simultaniously in the websites and newsites on parallel with local newspapers. So I think it wont be a big handicap and we will know what is happening out there. All it needs is few enthusiastic forumers with hawk eyes :)
PCK September 7th, 2006, 05:20 PM this is 2 d mods n 2 d admins!! PLZZZ brng abt d SL section cz v rly need one and with the new section thre will b surely mre interst amng the guys and obvs SSC will gt mre popular!!!
Ashok September 7th, 2006, 10:13 PM There is enough construction going on in Sri Lanka. It’s not only just the construction that is currently happening that can be talked about. Our country is small, but its holds a rich history, architectural diversity. It has architecture of many eras, and style. We have been conquered by the Dutch, Portuguese, and British who left behind their identity in architecture, and culture. This being said, I think it will be a very active forum.
Also note I have notice because there is no forum, its discourage members to participate, but a new Sri Lankan forum will attract many new Sri Lankan members. Soon our numbers will be very high.
I am glad there is a good turn out in this thread. Hopefully we can get the forum soon.
TallBox September 8th, 2006, 12:51 AM Yep, I'm back thanks to Fusionist's and Ashok's emails :)
Well it is a nice idea, and looking around in this particular subforum it seems there are quite a few threads regarding Sri Lanka. If we can build upon eagerness and a keen eye, as Fusionist says, hopefully it will be a success!
I will, of course, contribute in any way I can to a forum if it gets made - I have experience in setting up message boards in the past, one of which is quite a popular one for Sri Lankans (just ask Fusi!) ;) But will be more than happy to help by contributing to posts and any development news I can get hold of.
Ashok September 8th, 2006, 10:46 PM Thinks are looking positive for the Sri Lankan forum. Its only a matter of time ;)
