SARAJEVO: RECOVERY OF "BUILDING OF FRIENDSHIP” OF BiH AND GREECE TO BE COMPLETED BY NEXT SPRING

SARAJEVO, August 22 (FENA) – Reconstruction of the “Building of Friendship” of BiH and Greece at the Marijin-Dvor in Sarajevo should be completed by spring, said the BiH Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs, Zoran Tesanovic, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to BiH, Konstantina Mavroskelidou.

After touring the facility on Tuesday, Tesanovic and Ambassador Mavroskelidou expressed satisfaction with the dynamic of activities on recovery of the building despite the initial problems.

“There were minor setbacks in the beginning of the year due to problems concerning customs and tax exemptions, but now the dynamic of the works is satisfactory”, Tesanovic told the media.

The Government of the Republic of Greece is participating in funding the project of recovery and reconstruction of the “Building of Friendship” with 13.497.916 euro (80, 39 percent), while BiH participates with 3.292.916 euros (19, 61 percent).

The Greek Ambassador said this is an important project, which symbolizes friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as the Greek support to the speedy admission of our country into the EU.

She expressed assurance that the recovery would be completed on time after which the facility would be handed over to the BiH authorities, and added that this could be a pilot project for other future projects.

I guess it's just fair that they are paying for the reconstruction, considering that they helped destroy it in the first place.

Although it is very sad that Greece is building it. But it will look good, at least.

BosRoker

I don't see what there is to modernize. Yes, it looks 70s/80s, but I don't understand why that's a bad thing; it looks very nice. If we modernized it today, in 30 years it would look really "00's". As it is now it's a very nice example of a skyscraper from that period. It's good to have some historical variety in our skyline, and I'd rather have this than a contemporary but horrible deisgn any day.

That picture that shows it next to the Unitics and Holliday Inn is a sight for sore eyes :)

Finally.

So far it looks excellent. I'm very happy so far.

@BosRoker - I disagree about our skyline needing some historical variety. Sarajevo isn't New York or Chicago, where the historical skyscrapers actually still look nice, with the red brick facades. The old Parliament was just a gross sight, the colors weren't even uniformed.

No way, it looks way better in the current color. The light colored class makes it seem a lot "happier".

Did Bosnians really have a chance to pick the color? :dunno: Wasn't it Greece that renovated the building?

I don't want to be mean but I have wanted to ask this for a long time. How do Bosnians feel about foreigners reconstructing everything in their country...from the bridge in Mostar, through the twin towers, airports, road, to even the Parliament building? I mean all these renovations look great, no doubt, but it was somebody else who gave the money.

I dont think it bothers anyone that outsiders are donating to fix up old buildings and such. It would be preferable if Bosnia could do it one their own but given the circumstances of the war and its effects on the infrastructure/companies/roads it is really quite amazing how far we have come. Hopefully in the near future we can start taking our finances into are own hands and rely less on foreign aid and investment.

The war is the key... If you check some pics from B-H in 1991, 1996 and 2006, then you would understand... There's no a country in this world, except maybe 10 most developed which would be able to recover itself by itself after that level of destruction.

And, as I know, candidates for EU membership, like Bulgaria, receive much money from EU, mostly for reform purposes, but there are other purposes as well.

I mean all these renovations look great, no doubt, but it was somebody else who gave the money.I think yes. Also yes, Greece renovated the building and also some people from Greece were among those who destroyed that or some other buildings in war in Sarajevo or Bosnia and Herzegovina. Yes I know it is hard but true.
I remember when I on TV watched Russian poet who fired shots with sniper on citizens of the Sarajevo together with Karadzic during sieg of the Sarajevo?

About parlament I don't think that reconstruction was huge money and how you see in Bosnia they are more constructions for ten times more money. The point was about parlament reconstruction was political problem not money problem. Politicans from Republic of the Srpska don't want to give one single EUR for reconstruction of that parlament, even they were happy when parlament was destroyed.

About Twins (Unitic) it is actually mixed investment by one Bosnian company (UNIS-Sarajevo, before war the second biggest exporter in former Yugoslavia) and one foreign company. It was private investment with big profit after all when they planned to invest for third scraper.

About (Bosmal Twin) like name said it is Bosnian-Malaysien company and it is private company. Nice greenfield investment like on any other plaice in world.

Avaz Twosted Tower it is Bosnian private investment 100%.

Avaz Business Center also.

BBI it is investment of the one bank who like to take profit like any other bank.

OKI business center, Bosnian 100% and etc.

Bridge in Mostar is under UNESCO protection and it was so complicated and expensive procedure to renovate that bridge that more countries were in that project plus UNESCO.

After all will you belive me if I said to you that I was read that from 1995 (after war in Bosnia) international community helped more Serbia and Belgrade than Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo. Yes, they spend a lot of the money "in Bosnia" but for needs of the international peace keeping force and international community birocracy and etc. Those people earned that much money that they will never earn that kind of the money in western Europe, US, Canada or Australia. Just for example, Lord Paddy Ashdown earned more in Bosnia like High Representative than prime minister Blair in UK. It was also on Wolfgang Petric ex high representative of the international community in Bosnia example. Those people earned huge amount of the money and that is plaice where the most of the money gone from international help. After all I ask my self, what will happiend if UN didn't proclaimed arms embargo for Bosnian Army and how much those object which we renovated today will not be destroyed? I think many and even it is possible that war will never began in Bosnia, becouase it is hard to begin war against someone if both side have arms, and it is easy to start something like that if you have arms and other side don't, thanx to UN security council excatly that were happiend with Bosnian. They didn't have arms to defend theirs country, cities, buildings and etc, becouase they were atacked by in that time 3-rd biggest army in Europe and security council of the UN helped to that 3-rd army in Europe on that way that he proclaimed arms embargo for Bosnian patriotic forces? It is small thing today for international community to fix least 1% of the damage in Bosnia. They must do much more, it is moral thing to do after all, don't you think?

SA-R,

relax with the victim game... this is no place to list the injustices of the world. while you are eating there are people starving... while you are typing on your keyboard there are indian kids woking in coal mines 15 hours a day.

life isnt very fair. you just have to try to do the right thing.

BTW lord ashdown was a good bloke. you think he did what he did for money.... hehe ... please. after doing that kind of job you have to look over your shoulder your whole life. he is very brave man and he did enormous amounts for the coutnry.

the parliament looks great. you cant really have a black pareliament that looks like the death star on return of the jedi. it has to look friendly and transparent to show the poeple that the government is not there to screw them when it really is.

its usually very simbolic. all the dictatorships have dark concrete buidlings that can be converted into bunkers when the government is falling.

glas sis perfect.. it shows the popele that the govenmtnt is fragile and accountable. the german parliament has a glass dome over it where poeple can climb on it and be on top of the govenment so to speak...

similarly, the white house looks nice and friendy. imagine "emperor bush" in the "black house" .. not very nice is it. compare ti with the kremlin in moscow that is walled off.....lol.... they trust their poeple so much that the government is walled off. :)

Hehe, nije ga nampalo vise jesti svinjetinu u skoli.

Iz neprovjerenih izvora, kada kompletno zavrse unutrasnje radove u neboderu onda ce kompletno donja zgrada vlade preseliti u njega.

LordMarshall

Norveška će finansirati rekonstrukciju fasade parlamenta

Predsjedavajući Predstavničkog doma i zamjenik predsjedavajućeg Doma naroda Parlamentarne skupštine BiH Beriz Belkić i Mustafa Pamuk i ambasador Kraljevine Norveške u BiH Jan Braathu potpisali su danas u Sarajevu Memorandum o razumijevanju o rekonstrukciji fasade zgrade parlamenta BiH.

Prva faza radova koštat će oko 1,5 miliona maraka, a norveška vlada će prvu tranšu novca doznačiti u iznosu od oko 960 hiljada maraka.
