Al Hoceima (called by many locals Biya) is a Moroccan port and town on the Mediterranean Sea, and it is one of the main cities in the Rif.

Al Hoceima is placed near Ajdir, the city that Abd al-Karim Al-Khattabi was born. It is situated in the territory of the Bucoya tribe of the Rif who speak Tamazight.

The Spanish started to develop Al Hoceima from 1925, then known as Villa Sanjurjo, named after the general that landed there during the Rif Rebellion that was led by Abd al-Karim Al-Khattabi against Spanish and French colonial rule in North Africa.

The town and surrounding villages were hit by 2 moderate sized earthquakes consequently within ten years, first Mw 6.0 on May 26, 1994 and later Mw 6.4 on February 24, 2004. More than 560 people were killed during the last one.

wow, Imzouren has really changed over the last five years. I remember my last last visit to Imzouren in 2004, just one year after the earthquake, it was empty and dirty. Has someone pictures of the new expressway between Imzouren and Alhoceima (18km) and the new road between Nador en Alhoceima and pictures of developments in neighbouring town Beni Bouayach.

Incredible how Al Hoceima changed last five years, you can't even recognize it. Can anyone tell me till where the new corniche is finished... and also where exactly the fourth last picture is taken?

Al Hoceima has already a good link with Nador. A new link will be constructed on the Mediterranean coast to link Al Hoceima with Tétouan. Only a good link with Central Morocco (Fès) lefts giving moroccan tourists easy opportunity to spend their holiday at the mediterranean ...

Ils ont aménagés des places, l'écliarages publics, des fontaines etc... c'esst une belle petite ville propre !

personnellement je préfère hoceima a marrakech ou agadir a cause de sa plage et du climat de l'été, il fo juste renforcer l'infrastructure.

Tanger, Tetouan, Nador, AL Hoceima c'est mieux que Marrakech, y'a trop de pollution, c'est l'fouda, trop de touristes...
Par contre Agadir j'adore c'est avec Rabat mes villes préféres au Maroc, pour son climat, la mer et y'a beaucoup de choses à faire là-bas niveau loisirs, sorties et resto !

There weren't any destructions in Al Hoceima city. The biggest destructions were in countryside villages and small cities in a 30km radius of Al Hoceima due to poor quality of building material and building on places not suitable for housing, which was possible by geting permissions by corruption. All official buildings were not damages in this region. Al Hoceima rested intact by a more strict adoption of urban law.

Meanwhile two hit cities around Al Hoceima: Imzouren (18 km) and Beni-Bouayach (26 km) are refurbished and upgraded. These two cities have a population of 40.000 together.

The biggest problem is those in the countryside who massively migrating to Tangier, Nador and Spain ... caused by a lack of public services and communication infrastructure.
