I am visiting Liege tomorrow (may 16th), with my colleagues.
Among other things, we are gonna visit the Citadel and the 'montagne de bueren'.
I cannot judge the skyline now, but will after tomorrow.

The skyline of Liege is bad, there are only a few high buildings and they are not very nice to see. The sides of the buildings are often dirty and sometimes even the front is.

Nevertheless, the city is beautifully situated in a "hilly" landscape, surrounded by forrest. It also has very nice squares and old houses and the views along the Meuse are also beautiful (pix also from May 16th):

The Montagne de Bueren is very impressive. I have taken lots of pix there. I'll post them in another thread.

I passed this city many times, it should NOT have a skyline at the first place!, the few builds they got are real ugly.

Gets a couple of points for the few highrises it has, being reasonably tall for a fairly small city. However the individual buildings seem ugly and unkept, the city needs something new to rate higher.

Leige is a very quaint town. I stopped there (briefly) on my way from Brussels to Luxembourg.

Well, Liege is undoubtly the most ugliest city in the world at first site. But you will feel home in a few hours. It has something special. I don't know what. Maybe all the abondant buildings and the enormous amount of garbage everywhere creates that special feeling. And the skyscrapers (flats) are so ugly I actually started to like them :) I give it a 8.

When you pass the city on the highway, the view is really really ugly, but when you look better you can see some nice things, so a 5 for that. But when you visit the citycentre you see some more nice buildings and streetviews, a 7 for that, so my vote:

And the centre is (with any good will) like Petit-Paris, very French, the suburbs are HUGE and run-down 19th age industrial (agglo has maybe 450.000 habitants). They are so ugly that they are beautiful again! I vote an 8 fot Liège (Luik), not for the skyline, I mean there is much more in a city than just some skycrapers! Come on guys and girls! If it would be ONLY for this than cities like Paris, Rome, Venice, Florence etc etc etc would all have a very low rating! Groeten!

Highrises are very unpopular in Belgium. Only recently this is changing, but highrises were almost only used for 'commieblocks'.
I like Liège, but the city is a little rundown. Much old industry, little money,... If it wasn't for the setting (the hills, the green zones, the Meuse), I wouldn't like it very much. But with all that, it has this kind of feeling...

Hmmm Liege. I know some people from there. Sometimes a place doesn't need 500 to 1000 foot skyscrapers. I think Liege is more about the innards than the outward appearance.

Liège should only be judged on this picture in this thread. It doesn't even show the beautiful setting between the hills, the basilica on the Cointe hill, the ringroad built OVER the city... Liège is just wonderful. 8 out 10 Dutch people reacting here call the city ugly and next walk trough their own boring towns without being critical at all. Liège is alive 24 hours a day and is on that point in Holland only beaten by Amsterdam. And yes, it is a little run-down, but isn't that exactly the charm of the city? Liège is a real city, with real people with real lives. Eat your heart out, Rotterdam...

Btw, the parts of the city that have been reconstructed yet, look very stylish and they're ready for some 50 years. In Holland streets are being redone every ten years, because the trend they were built in, is over... And with the Calatrava station, the city will actually start to become a tourist hot spot.

Liège ne se résume pas à une seule photo pour juger de son "skyline " .

Par exemple ,on donnerait unanimement 8/10 -9/10 en voyant une photo des coteaux de la citadelle (photos ci dessous:)

Liège is great, but I can't define a real skyline (not even a historic one), so I have to judge it with a 5/10. But the city itself is definetly charming and came out of nothing the last years (since it looked really run down some years ago). Go on Lüttich!

There's a few butt ugly looking condos here and there, but overall a beautiful city.

Skyline - Not really any that I can see (Unsurprisingly, no La Défense type of area or anything of that nature :)), so I don't see any point in rating something that isn't there.

River - 5 :)
