Madrid firefighters reported that the fire started on a hydraulic oil storage facility in the last floor of the building. The fire did not cause injuries or damage the structure.

They said the fire broke out before midnight and was extinguished 5:30 hours later.

what`s the deal with madrid and towers on fire.

^^ It was spectacular. It was tansmitted live to the whole country because in that moment and in a relatively close (about 1 km) square there was a big and crowded open air reception for the Spanish national basketball team coming back from Japan with the world championship.

It started at 11.30 pm last monday, was controlled about 4 hours later and completely extinguished at 6.30 the following morning.

The damage has not been serious, just a few construction materials. The building structure, made of a special kind of fire-resistant concrete, has not been affected. The construction works will be delayed for a few weeks due to the fire.

In Madrid have been rainning for 2 weeks. And predictions say is going to rain all this week too. There weren't any day of last week where I left home without rainning. Anyway, I love rainning. It's not causing troubles in the center of spain ;)

WOW Madrid is building a lot of new constructions, it's wonderful to imagine the Madrid's skyline in the coming years, I see it with taller building that in the past.

Keep in mind that (a) the Spanish economy is one of the fastest growing ones on the entire European continent, and unless I am mistken, THE fast growing of the 5 largest Western European economies and (b) parts of this complex are also being devoted to other purposes including hotel space, something that Madrid DESPERATELY needs.

Skid-Mark, madrilian economy is one of the strongest in the European comunity, growing aroind 4% each year and with an unemployment rate of 6%. Plus Madrid gets the majority of the foreign invesment in Spain and creates the majority of companies of our country each year so office spaces, yes, are needed a lot.

Anyway in this case the space is for four companies strongly consolidated. One is of oil, two of constructions and the third of insurances. They all grow quickly and they need much more space.

wrofanatyk, ryanair fly from Wroclaw to liverpool and you get good views and talls here, take a cheap flight over;)

There is a development to build 10-15 high-rises between 120-300m in that area near these towers (Operacion Chamartin), but it needs to get the approval ;)

Although in the pictures they look lonely, it´s not exactly like that.

These towers are in the north extreme of the Paseo de la Castellana, the biggest street in Madrid. Along this long avenue there are very high buildings, growing graduately from South to North, where these four "jwels" are. So the impression you get is actually this: a big long avenue which has bigger and more modern buildings when you run through it from South to North. So the efect is of something "planned" and armonious. Anyway I would like to have many more skyscrapers in some years with Operación Chamartín, of course.Let´s pray...:)

Well, Repsol Tower is now reaching 170 m, and has to grow 80 m more. Torre Cristal more or less the same. Torre Sacyr is about 150 m and has to reach 236. The only tower near roof is Espacio. But still has to grow 14 m. more.
The next few weeks and 6 months, we are going to see the towers growing so much! I,ts going to be very impressive now, that they are all more than 150 m.

Fortunately cladding in Repsol Tower has started, not properly the cladding but the first stripe of plates between storeys where the glass is gonna be put :)
