If you look closely, there are a few towers that are in progress, but haven't had any information posted about them in the forums--I'm thinking of the three towers across the street from the Four Seasons and behind the new Movenpick Hotel (not Beverly Hills or the al Misna Towers). Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Safe to say that 44 West Bay has more than 44 floors?

That is a nice photo! But it looks plain. From ground level, it looks a lot more buildings. We need more greanery. It really looks like a desert from up there! In 3 years, this picture will be filled with buildings, even Dubai Towers and Barwa tower.

What I noticed also, is that there are no internal roads! How are people going to move into the towers without roads! This is supposed to be the downtown area, and the last thing they think of is infrastructure!

and you know something? All towers aren't tall at all.. why dont they go above 300 meteres? Well, Dubai tower is 400 as I remember.. why dont they go above that?

Well, basically because we don't need massive tall towers--they are not economical. Also, they will allow a certain building to be built a certain height as long as they have more than a certain number of spaces.

For example, if you build a 500 meter building for only 1000 cars, the gov't won't allow that--except if you increase the parking space for 5000 more cars.

There are other reasons, too.

Great view! From up there it looks like there a lot of available plots..or maybe some will be saved for greenery and landscaping, let's see!

The 3 towers you are talking about are, i think, from left to right: Regency Tower, Khaled Al Misnad Residential Tower, Al Rayyan Tower..let's create threads if they dont exist yet: ) The 44 West Bay looks taller than the 50-storey City Center hotels...So i'd say more than 44 too!

But the city center hotels are no completed yet i think.

higher towers are coming, but they need sometime.

Let's finish the shorter towers, and then let us think about creating taller towers.

as I said earlier, the tallest I heared of is 140 stories high. that was in the urban planning department, where they approve new projects.

Well, that depends on how high a single floor will be...
But if we use Dubai Tower as a 'reference', 140f might turn out to be something like... 650m?!!

probably skoulikimou you're disappointed. maybe you thought that for the past few years, qatar was doing nothing but to promote itself through aljazeera & media, but in fact it's still a sleepy country who built walls around itself & isloated itself from the outside world.

i just hate it when someone, especially from the gulf, who always becomes surprised as how qatar is developing, as if it's a crime to be a modern & fast developing country.

now let me ask you, have you even botherd yourself just to read more about the country, and here i'm talking about outside this forum? can you name 3 past rulers of qatar? can you spell the correct name of our prime minister?
i doubt you w'd be able to do so. most of gulf people are so culturally ignorant when it comes to qatar, yet they dare to say "ouuuuuhhh, your country is so beautiful, or, is that doha?" just right in our face, without a blink of the eye.

WOW!!!

From close-up, you see lots of towers, but from above, you see a bird's eye view and lots of empty plots worth billions of riyals. But, all of the plots are currently under-construction. I cant wait to see the arial 2 years from now!

Definitely a-w-e-s-o-m-e , Doha is amazing, it's already a world-class city , i don't know what to say in the next 5 to 10 years. I have two figures for Qatar's per-capita GDP ( PPP ) -- 35,000 and 49,000 -- i don't know which one is right. If 49,000 then Qataris must be super super rich !

And just how exactly did u determine that Doha is a world-class city i'm curious..!? ^^

^^ I think it is developing to become a world-class destiny in means of education, medical facilities and sports facilities. As having just done more than the first steps towards its goal, I think Qatar it is starting to be known for these categories. But still, it lacks from other things, and hopefully in the near future everything will be there.

But as for education, and sports, at this stage, we have to admit it is definetely a pioneer!!!!

The area is called New Business District or New Doha Area something like that..

The proper name is the New Doha Districts, which includes Dafna, Onaiza, Qutaifiya, and all the areas around them. You can see the term used on many signs around Doha. Basically it includes West Bay and all the areas around it - the areas that came as a result of the dredging of the coast of Doha and the shaping of the coast in the 1970s/80s.

Thaaron Dazzling pictures !!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so very much its about time we have an update and look at hilton hotel it looks like it reached its final hight , i never knew doha looked so nice at night , btw that night about 2-4 days ago before i went to frankfurt at the cornesh when i was passing by the commercial bank tower was lit from top to bottem it looked so nice the britest tower in west bay area it made the other towers feel dark !!!!

I'm pretty sure the pier right of Hilton is very new...!

the last picture always makes me feel odd since i dont understand whats happening there but it seems that its la Mini Bay like land with palm trees around and the rest of the area is a park ? nice for that area !!!! that makes parks on both ends of the corniesh

The Islamic Museum is one of the world's best architectural masterpieces! Truly is a gem, designed by one of my favorite architects IM PEI... Truly wonderful!

I really hope the relocate the flour mills factory.

Acctully my friend the woule port area will be relocated to somewhere near the NDIA but the museum will stand alone looking great !!!

For a lowly populous city Doha is extremely sprawling !

Qatar is a country I really really admire just like the rest of smaller Gulf countries- it's hypermodern, clean, with vibrant exciting lifestyle, safe, tradition meets modernity, great food, broad-minded global-thinking population with wonderfully cosmopolitan society East meets West :cheers:

I dont think anything tremendous would have changed since it was taken, except for the Lusail Marina which was completed in December..

I think Doha skyline has very perfect shape. And slowly distinguishing itself from its neighbours. Try posting that above photo randomly- I think many can simply identify it as Doha .
