Tiananmen Square in China

As you know the largest Square in the world is Tiananmen Square in Peking but the second one and I can say that the most beautiful one is Maidan-e-Shah or Royal Square with nearly 1700 feet long – twice the size of Red Square in Moscow, seven times the size of St Mark’s Square in Venice - in Isfahan. It is completely surrounded by decorated arcades and a bazaar, and the center of each side is marked by a monumental building: the entrance to the Grand Bazaar and the Royal Mosque (Imam Mosque) at opposite ends, and the Ali Qapu (or Aliqapoo) Pavilion and the Shaikh Lotfullah Mosque on either side. The Royal Square is connected at its northern end to the old city by the monumental entrance of the grand bazaar opening onto miles of vaulted passageways and caravanserais that eventually lead to Friday Mosque (Ja’ame Mosque).

I never got a chance to comment on Iranian mosque. Architecturally speaking, Iran has probably the most beautiful mosques in the world. Increadible calligraphy & detail.

before you do, shouldn't we include something like "Persian New Year" or Norooz under the picture, so ppl know what it means

^Jan will add the caption in small white letters on the bottom right and the ssc logo on the bottom left, I asked for 'Happy Nowruz'

If Shapoor wants to re-do the Happy Nowruz like the other ones, I can re-submit it

"Happy Nowruz" is just fine in my opinion. Nowruz is Persian but Iranic and Turkic people celebrate it too. We can just post a brief explanation of Nowruz in "about today's banner" thread...

I think we should make a banner about the current situation in iran (one the pix can include neda) , wat u sayin guyz?

Jan has made new rules for banners, no political banners allowed, no flag waving, only urban scenes I'm afraid...

Maybe we could also put landscapes as banner, that would be very nice, because there are many nice land scapes... . And I think we only put the pictures of Persepolis and Tehran in the banner... we could also put pictures of other places and not just these "typical" places...you know, either Tehran skyline or Persepolis... . For example we could put in pictures from the Persian Gulf (maybe from Kish), Tabriz, Esfahan, Shomal landscapes, (desert), the Caspian Sea etc. . There are sooo many beatiful places in Iran.... it's simply too bad.
And the last banner's picture was from wide taken and one couldn't see the real beauty of the ruin's. As I read some thought it was not so nice, because they didn't know Persepolis, others know what a beauty Persepolis is and therefore they said that it was pretty nice!
Sorry for the critics, but I said this just to help to improve the Iran SSC headers.

Isn't it time for a new banner. We haven't have banner's for ages (except that Norouz-banner that was accepted at the eleventh hour.
It would be good if it would be on an important day after the election in June, you know one year after it.

wow, Shiraz is so green. but I think you should photo sky-scrappers of shiraz, not the natural beauty of Shiraz.

if you compare our headers with others we are doing a really bad job, like the pardis one, it's just some buildings, not even the whole building, the last one of Tehran, not the whole buildings, were is the sky, mountains?
also we show to much the same things, I mean Iran has many palaces, natural cites, mountains, why do we always pick some pictures with no sense or beauty, just to prove people that we have buildings too in Iran? for what?! think about it.

The fact is that the beauty of Iranian architecture is more focused on the details than the bigger vision, in a thread in the architecture forum, I compared Shah Mosque to Taj Mahal, it can be proved that all things in Shah Mosque have been worked greater than Taj Mahal, but we have to accept that the general view of Taj Mahal is better!

Anyway however the details can not be seen but Shah Mosque is one of the greatest buildings in Iran:

Lighting is good, it cover, partially city view (mostly green parks around zayandeh rood), Sio-se-Pol and area around it. Sky color is great, too.
