Looks like you guys finally got what you have been waiting for and it must be quite sweet. You have worked hard and you deserve a pat on your back! Hopefully, this becomes a very productive part of the ASF and our South Asian section continues to grow. Ohh by the way WELCOME TO THE SOUTH-ASIAN section here at the ASF.

How come Sri Lanka is missing on the front page of SSC? I just noticed that it shows the name of all the countries with a sub-forumn apart from Sri Lanka.

Great job guys! Srilanka is really the jem of South Asia :) I hope Bangladesh get a section soon..

The people of Sri Lanka should be proud.So give your selves a good pat on the back.
We did a small tsunami reconstruction project starting a couple of weeks after the event, based between Galle & Matara.And was humbled by the way the people were dealing with the crisis.
I heard many tales of selflessness & heroism in appaulling circumstances.
The first respnse in aid was not either from the Lankan authoraties or from foriegn NGO's or what ever,
It was from regular colombo citizens organizing & MANNING convoys of supplies to the east & south even B4 the roads had been cleared.I mean thats incredable commpassion & bravery.
There was beurocratic problems & awful government 'misapropriation' but the people themslves were incredable.Some folk had been working 22hr days to get things sorted. People were honest pragmatic & civilised.Its not always like that.
In complete contrast to what went down in New Orleans for example.A more or less complete breakdown of society.
So full respect to you all
I have visited Sri Lanka a few times B4 that & had seen the progress that the country was making towards modernity & social justice.
A reletive ceasfire was in place
There had been social programs succesfully implemented, that gave each family a plot of land & thus more or less eleviated poverty.The GDP ppp was almost double that of the big nieghbour to the north,literacy rate almost as high as here in the UK.
Colombo struck me as a KL waiting to happen.
In a much better state that big indian cities.
Then the Tsunami hit.And the ceasefire colapses.No politics here so,no more on that.Terrable bad luck has befallen the nation recently but i beleive from what I know of Sri Lankans that if only the politicians can get thre act together , the future will be bright.So good luck to all.
On a lighter & much more pleasent note there is a debate on where the most beautiful girls in the world are.
Some say Mauritias, some Somalia. I say Matara in S Sri Lanka .Inteligent confident & drop dead georgious.
Ok enough from me.

Congratulations and welcome to the South Asian forum group at SSC. The Bangladesh forum has my full support as well and I hope it materializes soon. Some of the Bangladeshi forumers have done a superb job of collecting Bangladesh-related threads and a forum for the country is a natural next step.
