Some common sense... FINALLY
Vietnam’s third oil refinery to come up in south
The Vietnamese government has greenlighted the construction of an oil refinery in the south, the country’s third, the Government Office announced Tuesday.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given permission for the refinery, to be based in Long Son commune in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, to be built either solely or jointly by foreign investors, or by local entrepreneurs.
He also indicated that investors had the option of setting it up in other locations – like Vung Ro in Phu Yen province or Doc Ham in Ninh Thuan province.
It follows Vietnam’s first oil refinery in the central Quang Ngai province and the second in the northern Thanh Hoa province.
The PM also told the Ministry of Planning and Investment to work with relevant agencies to make an assessment of the project and submit it to him for consideration.
The island of Long Son, located some 100 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, is spread over 3,565 hectares, including more than 1,000 hectares zoned for housing, industrial parks, ports, warehouses, and public works.
Provincial authorities have set aside 400 hectares in prime locations in its southern and southeastern parts for the refinery.
The country’s first refinery in Dung Quat is due for completion in early 2009.
Preparations are underway for the second in Thanh Hoa province.
