SA BOY September 25th, 2006, 12:35 PM poor ID , but a change for Durban and shows fiath in the local hospitality industry
SA BOY September 25th, 2006, 12:48 PM is this what I have listed as 5. Sails Hotel 50 m 14 2006 ?
if so has it been reduced in floors but keep the height which i dont think so cos then its like 5m per floor
dysan1 September 25th, 2006, 12:48 PM ID? if that is interior design then i'm sure it is just a bad render with the colourful stair one.
It will not serve pork or alcohol on the premises. So muslim run.
I personally really like the night colours outside
dysan1 September 25th, 2006, 12:50 PM Showing how it links the sails development
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c128/dysan1/CopyofSailsApartments_PerspsceneDay.jpg
dysan1 September 25th, 2006, 12:54 PM yes it is. it has been reduced in height due to height limits in the vicinity. i dont know the full reasons. But it certainly seems higher than 35m still. i will do some foraging.
SA BOY September 25th, 2006, 12:58 PM mike, any idea on contact details for the developer. This is a sharia compleint hotel and its what we are develoing big time across north africa and the Gulf.
This is simmilar to the coral in cape town
GregPz September 25th, 2006, 02:24 PM I love this one - it's going to look great at the point!
dysan1 September 25th, 2006, 08:50 PM The apartments are available for purchase. the sales agent is PWR properties. If you want more info contact nadia@pwr.co.za
I dont know who the developers are, but they constantly mention inVeno Hotels. But i cant find anything on it. I have been seriously considering this one myself. 30 days free usage, and set returns that look rather good to me. Giles, your opinion will matter tho before i do anything.
Will put the stuff below
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c128/dysan1/sgaur.jpg
joburg September 25th, 2006, 09:08 PM This one is a babe! I luuurve it.
SA BOY September 26th, 2006, 08:18 AM called a mate in Durban and found the developer and know the inside scoop on this development. Its catering for a Muslim clientel and owner ie there are seperate male and femal swimming pools, prayer rooms etc. This means is designed to cater for muslims but is open to anyone.
This is exactly what im after from our side of things.
Ill call the devloper now and understand more
Durbsboi September 26th, 2006, 09:18 AM Thank god, from that first pic, I thought the actual shape of the building was a S! but doesnt look that bad, could have done more with the shape, like the different colours in the night, very adventurous, not sure how it will look with the conservative buildings around it, but its in prime location, so it must stand out.
dysan1 September 26th, 2006, 11:16 AM Giles...what do you mean by:
"This is exactly what im after from our side of things."
I presume with the muslim focus they must be aiming to attract alot of middle eastern people to durban?
hsark September 26th, 2006, 12:21 PM very cool building and modern dont see alot around like how it links the sails not to keen on the lights looks like something for the 70's"night fever"
SA BOY September 26th, 2006, 02:18 PM well selling a sharia complient property is not easy in a western context but in the Middle east its easy cos its the norm in saudi, yemen, kuwait, iran etc
seing as this is now happening in SA and its not causing a backlash like it did in the UK then it shows a very mature social order in Sa as well as a haven for people like us to invest in Sa with a sharia financial model, seeing as its already being done.
I actully spoke to the developer today and Ill probably come out to meet him a few weeks time as well as loking at oppotunities in Sandton and the waterfront
dysan1 September 26th, 2006, 08:55 PM There are also alot of muslim style banks based in durban that are doing alot of development. mainly in overport and 3 big devs near kingsmead.
Durbsboi September 27th, 2006, 09:11 AM Yep, Albaraka Bank is building a small mix development on Ridge Road, & speaking of Kingsmead, in between KPMG & Portnet buildings, I see theres a group 5 crane there, any idea whats happening there?
dysan1 September 27th, 2006, 12:42 PM I know one of the baord of directors of Albaraka Bank.
They are financing 2 developments in Kingsmead. One is to be their new HQ. It is a FANTASTIC looking modern building. They are growing really quickly.
GregPz September 27th, 2006, 02:35 PM Any pics of the Kingsmead building mike? You can't tell us it's FANTASTIC and nothing more! :gossip:
Durbsboi September 28th, 2006, 09:09 AM ^^Exactly!
romanSA September 28th, 2006, 12:56 PM Thanks for posting, M. I like it. Will quickly become an icon building in that area. What's the anticipated completion date?
dysan1 September 28th, 2006, 08:46 PM Sorry guys i dont have them. There were for firms that pitched. Each had good designs, but two were amazing and the FANTASTIC one is the one which was chosen. It is very modern, sleek, almost entirely glass and circular. I dont have anything to post of it, cos u know i wld if i cld!
dysan1 February 15th, 2007, 10:10 PM Giles...find any more about this hotel group? will it be called In Veno, or will they get a name brand operator u think?
SA BOY February 16th, 2007, 08:43 AM cant say much about it as we have had an involvement but they will be operating as their own In-Veno brand as the first of a chain with no brand operator as the operation engine.
dysan1 February 16th, 2007, 11:45 AM ok thanks...how were u guys involved?
SA BOY February 16th, 2007, 12:54 PM cant say
dysan1 February 16th, 2007, 04:55 PM ok random
dysan1 February 21st, 2007, 11:06 AM Hey Norm....add anything more about ur development that we dont have already in here
SA BOY February 21st, 2007, 11:13 AM ok random
more than random but cant say as its sensitive info
dysan1 February 21st, 2007, 11:30 AM ^^ maybe norm can spew some stuff then
dysan1 May 22nd, 2007, 10:50 PM Giles i know you are being all "ssssssshhhhhh" on this one, but are the "in veno" people locally funded and financed? And when is start date?
Pule October 18th, 2007, 08:36 AM What's happening with this one?
dysan1 October 18th, 2007, 01:37 PM its starting construction once the Sails dev next door is complete
Pule October 18th, 2007, 02:34 PM Great stuff. I can't wait to see the point in 2009.
Luf October 18th, 2007, 04:22 PM Yeha good news. Anything on Shakas gate, iv tryed to phone them and email them but they never reply
Urmel October 18th, 2007, 08:50 PM Yeha good news. Anything on Shakas gate, iv tryed to phone them and email them but they never reply
I do not belive that there is anything happend in the next few months.
In 2 weeks is the Handover for the Sails so PWR can start with the Hotel in 3 weeks:)
My expirience with PWR is just only bad so I belive that this Hotel will never be build
Just try to find something out about INVENO Nobody knows something about this Gostcompany.
Luf October 18th, 2007, 09:10 PM Yeah i agree that PWR is so bad.. I wonder if they have even sold the amount they are saying. Very disappointing actually, they never pick up their phones/emails nothing.
dysan1 November 27th, 2007, 06:09 PM The Developer is in the process of completing design and development planning, as well as compliance with end user finance requirements. It is expected that the developer should have this process completed sometime during the first half of 2008 and PWR will then publish the developer’s final development plan. All indications are that the program is still well on track to complete construction and commence operation of the hotel well before the World Cup in 2010.
Lydon November 27th, 2007, 07:09 PM The "S" logo reminds me of the S Club 7 logo haha
Die Kapenaar December 24th, 2008, 07:52 PM Apparently this one may be started after the downturn like QuayWest Hotel. They probably need to target a three star market instead of their five or four star plans.
dysan1 December 26th, 2008, 12:23 PM ^^ the point needs a 4/5 star hotel, i would imagine they are keeping to that target. The foundations have all been completed on this one. On site they have said that they will proceed with the development
Pule December 29th, 2008, 07:55 AM How many projects are currently under construction in The Point?
dysan1 December 29th, 2008, 05:10 PM None, unless you count the Stevedores where Roman says there is some action. All other developments have been completed that were u/c, these include:
The Sails
The Quays
Quayside
Marine Point
Dock Point
Spinakker
Harbour View Terraces
Point Bastille
Point Bay
Dolphin Whispers stalled due to bad project management by the developers, but will be completed in 2009 by Ithala.
Ones where construction has not fully started are:
Shaka's Gate
Heritage Square
East Point
One point one seven
S on Timeball
QuayWest
The palms (would consider dead)
Expect a rationalising next year with more to come once confirmation of the SCH is given
Pule December 30th, 2008, 03:08 AM May 2009 be a good year for The Point.
p2bsa December 30th, 2008, 12:45 PM May 2009 be a good year for The Point.
Despite issues and now global economic challenges The Durban Point is destined to be a true hotspot!
With believers in this development being event's heavyweights like 'Mr White' this development will fly... with or without the SCH... While the SCH will be better...

New Years Eve Beach Party
New Years Eve on the Beach, from 3pm till sunrise, with Coco Loco, Ready D and the best of the rest in Durban.
New Years Eve is everyone's favorite time of the year, even the avid couch potato ventures out for a night on the town - or in this case the beach. Parties during the year, never quite capture the electric atmosphere of the night.
Stepping onto the beach at the Beach Club you will have no doubt that Durban has some of the best beaches in the world. The Beach Club is situated literally one step off the beach and is the perfect venue to bring in the New Year. We will be providing extra marquees in case of the traditional late afternoon shower, including a marquee on the roof for VIPs.
We passionately support the campaign for NO Fireworks this year by having a NYE Bonfire instead. We will also be making a donation to the SPCA to help with animals affected by fireworks, and encourage every animal lover to do the same.
A kicker sound system just wouldn't be the same without some kicker DJs. As far as House music goes you won't find someone more groundbreaking then DJ Coco Loco. Having recently returned from playing at Ministry and Pacha in London, he is representing Durban on a global platform these days. He will be joined by Green Junior, Agent K, Garuni, Funky G, Rod, DJM and the original crash nightclub DJs Mimi and Gavin.
As far as Hip Hop goes I just never get tired of Ready D, SA's number one Hip Hop DJ.
Your safety is very important to us so we will have tight security in the venue and around the venue as well as the inter-leading streets. We will work closely with local authorities and The Point Waterfront Committee who has done a fantastic job of making this a crime free zone. I think it has something to do with all the CCTV cameras.
We are going to kick off at about 3 in the afternoon so get down there early, get your parking spot and start your new years eve with your first sundowner. If you're keen to make up a five person volley ball team then drop us a mail at info@mrwhite.co.za.
Cash Bars will be run by the Mr Cocorozis crew in the Marquee's and inside the venue, so no drinks will be allowed to be brought into the venue.
For those of you coming in from out of town don't forget to book your flights and accommodation ASAP. You can contact Tara from Flight Centre on 031 2799606 who books all our DJs Flights, accommodation and car hire needs.
Tickets will be on sale from the 25th of November at Computicket and Idols Musgrave and Pavilion. The FIRST 100 TICKETS at all outlets will go for ONLY R100.
After that they will be R120 presale, and then R150 at the door.

Die Kapenaar December 31st, 2008, 01:07 AM ^^ the point needs a 4/5 star hotel, i would imagine they are keeping to that target. The foundations have all been completed on this one. On site they have said that they will proceed with the development
That is good news. I hope they do break ground on it.
