Western media tend to depict Russia as a war lover, gunmaker but I've been living in Moscow for almost a decade as an expat and I'll tell the truth:
Russia will not pose any threat to mankind coz She is too large and her population is shrinking. it will be a big challenge in future for her to hold the land she has.

The core reason of killing (war) is unsolvable conficts between human beings, not the weapons. weapons always are there around us (e.g. knife, siscors ...) if the conflict is solved no knife wil be used to kill. If the conflict is not solved people will fight and they will need weapon, so they will make it or buy it. in the latter case somebody else will make it to sell, of course

where the conflicts come from:
major sources are:
lack of respect and toilerrance to each other especially regarding cultural or religious aspects
lack of resources needed for living ( this is growing faster now as the resource demands of China or India getting bigger and bigger, out of supplies )

and so on

The conflicts are endless and the war is unavoidable from time to time

But I believe that the civilization will prevent the wars that will end human existence
Life is actually getting better if we make a compare today to the past times

Let me settle this once and for all (hopefully):
I never said that 'war was a good thing'. Competition is key to advancement.
So far, History has pretty much showed us that no competition had ever been as effective as the will to annihilate your enemy; may it be for right or wrong reasons.
The one possible large-scale exception might just have been the Space Race and therefore, partly at least... the Cold War.

Competition. Not necessarily warfare; but it seems to help quite a bit...
We're only human.

Beautiful tower, maybe too ambitious for the status of current economy. Let's hope they find a new investor asap

1. If someone will buy the plot land only then it will be all new design.
2. If someone will buy the project then will legally take over design and will able to build it.
3. Same if someone will buy Russian Land entire company. They will legally take over the project.

In next few years the plot will be leased to CITY company and will be occupied by parking.

i saw that someone replied in this thread and put my rageface on to scream at people bumping old threads and then the surprise a trustful member and mod brings hope for us all.

however i wonder if they still have chosen the same plot, since i thought the old plot was sold for a few lower res buildings.

Awesome, hope this takes a positive turn. Norman Foster has to make his mark on Megatalls. So far he's been unlucky. His designs are unique compared to AS+GG Megatalls.

PS The Russia Tower as it was planned by Foster will not be built.
PPS In the Russian section we don't have the Russia Tower thread any more. I wonder why this thread exists here.

Yeah, it should go to the Archives. Whatever new project deserves its own thread.

yes i figured, it's just too long ago and the plot is long gone. I really liked the design and spot though, i really hope for something similar, especially similar in terms of height

The wikipedia page for the building says that:
"In January 2012, the Moscow government extended the construction permit to 31 December 2015, stipulating that the total area of structure be decreased to 350,000 square metres (3,800,000 sq ft), of which approximately 240,000 square metres (2,600,000 sq ft) would be located above ground".

There is a reference for the info that appears reliable, though it is in Russian and the Google Translate that I relied on wouldn't have been worth the paste.
