I like Prince Hotel as well.....I liked the food there the most (yum...yum!). Somehow I do not really like the interior that much. The poolside is nice though and commands a great view but somehow lacking of something.

MY overall best hotel goes to Legend Hotel. It has a great exterior (very 'gotham'-like) and it has a great interior. Its ballroom is one of the nicest around and its rooms are great too! :D

Plus Legend also has one of KL's best high-tea! Its lobby is on the 9th floor and it has the coolest hotel logo!. The only thing I hate is the HUGE signboard they added later at the top of the building!

Brave new world in The Living Room

HAVING observed, for the past few years, the construction hoardings and signboards, I was looking forward to seeing the completed Westin Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Located in Jalan Bukit Bintang, the five-star hotel is owned by one of Malaysia's leading construction and development companies, Ireka Corporation Sdn Bhd.

With 384 rooms and 68 executive residences, a variety of F&B outlets, grand ballroom, meeting rooms and business centre and an executive club lounge, The Westin Kuala Lumpur is an impressive debut for the Westin Hotels & Resorts chain in Malaysia.

It might be a business hotel, but it has the personality and style of a boutique hotel. Its interiors are luxurious, warm, and urbanely stylish.

Award-winning interior consultants, Axis Network Design Consultants, conceptualised a lifestyle concept that merged design, technology and art to create a unique atmosphere that makes each visit a distinctive experience.

This week, Ambience focuses on the aptly-named The Living Room, located in the core of the building.

The Living Room is a continuation of the lobby and takes centrestage, as it is located in the atrium of the void rotunda space.

''Rather than a stand alone outlet, the space merges seamlessly with the lobby.

''Here is where the buzz of socialising, dining, and interaction take place, just like a living room,'' said Lai Siew Hong, a director at Axis Network.

The original design called for natural light through a sunroof, which had to make way for a swimming pool instead.

Nonetheless, there is still a sun casting its rays on The Living Room in the shape of a Dale Chihuly-inspired hand blown crystal pendant light suspended in midair.

Around the outlet's perimeter are elements of nature like waterfalls and a bamboo garden.

''We encourage elements of nature in the interior to give out an atmosphere of calm and tranquility,'' said Lai.

The décor is stylish, juxtaposed with forms and lines to give prominence to the commisioned sculpture and artwork.

The colour palette of white, pale yellow, warm biege, highlighted with gold, silver and black, is at once subtle and soothing.

The choice of colours also allows the theatrical play of optical lighting be emphasised.

The materials used are a combination of luxurious, textured and natural finishes, giving the area a healthy and radiant look.

All said and done, The Westin is setting new paradigms in hotel interior design.

This is a brave showcasing of Malaysian talent and resources that deserves all its expected success.

Eh, where got "Holiday Inn in the City" 1? It was City Center lah :) ...

Yeah, the three Holiday Inns (including the one in Shah Alam) are all gone, due to change of management by the owners, PIHP Selangor... City Center and Shah Alam have become "Quality Hotel", one of Choice International's brand names... As for On The Park, i heard that there was to be a new hotel that will be constructed on the existing building... But so far nothing new yet...

Wow, the New York-ness of the Mandarin Oriental and Captiol hotels is pretty interesting...

Whilst the Mandarin reminds me of Rockefeller Center (see the previous post), the Capitol is like those thin high-rises at the Lower Manhattan area (near the former WTC, such as the AIG Building)...
