(40 km from Beirut)

Deir El Qamar was the residence of the Lebanese governors till the end of the 18th century. A walk around the town gives you a sence of history as you observe the traditional Lebanese stone houses with their red roofs.

In the main square, you can see the Mosque of Fakhreddine who founded Deir El Qamar and made it the capital city of Lebanon. That is considered one of the great treasures in the town.

Also it's worth visiting the Baz Palace, Al Kharge Palace and the Seraglio of Emir Melhem Chehab, governor of Lebanon.

no it's actually pretty organized compared to other areas! I was ratgher impressed when I went there last year. I was thinking to myself that if all Lebanese villages were like that (as organized) it would be great! Also, another place I found very well planned and beautiful is 'zouk el 2adimeh' the roads are linned, buildings cladded with yellow stone, all uniform, the mid-section of the road planted and lined with trees and flowers... You know this is the same place where there is the delivery man for Mcdonald's in one of the pictures that was once posted on this forum.

This so called Moussa's Castle "a big fake monstrocity". They should have never allowed such construction across from Beit al din palace.

^^ no actually it attracts thousands of people each year and has become sortoff a national symbol of pride ..the story about the purpose of the castle is a nice one though and they sell all kinds of antiques and cultural items

I am not disputing it's attraction as a tourist destination. I have been there and liked the idea of someone building their own castle. However It was constructed in poor taste, and I am not sure if I believe the fact that moussa built the castle with his own hands as it is advertized. Even if he did, it is tacky nevertheless. Their is nothing really artistic about the castle. It looks like a generic castle built out of stone.

^^ thats exactly what it is , im not saying that he built it using his own bare hands but they say that he built it to fulfill a challenge of some sort
