Now personally, I'm not to keen on the Exciting Liverpool tower, but the new one looks good, but I'd rather wait until it's finished before ponficiating.
[cop-out] I like the Manchester and Birmingham equally[/cop-out]. I like the shape and the distance looming of the Manchester one, but I like the curves of the Birmingham one close up, and yes I even like the back.

So what do you lot think then?

To be honest, I find it hard to genuinely like any of them, but if pushed I'd go for Manchester. It's sheer audacity appeals to me, even if the design doesn't.

The Birmingham one is over-designed in some aspects (fussy glazing) and underdesigned in others (the back - since when did 40-storey buildings HAVE a back?!) and as a result manages to miss out on being either really interesting or really elegant.

The less said about the original Liverpool one the better (was this really only built a couple of years ago!), although the new one looks rather more promising. Better placed on the skylnie too.

Hmmm, slightly negative post, but I do think that Mr Beetham has been a mixed blessing on our cities skylines, and whilst I don't expect to ever see one proposed for Cardiff, unlike most people I'd be quite happy about that.

I'm not sure I like the Ian Simpson ones (they haven't grown on me like I thought they would), so I voted for West.

Also, whilst the Manchester one is the biggest, I just can't say I'm a fan of the cantilever. I think it'd be better if it was one giant smooth obelisk.

I'm with Stephan on this one, I can't choose between the Manc and the Brummie ones, both very different and both very appealing on differing levels. Liverpool West looks as though it will take the crown so that's where my vote will go, reserve the right to change my mind if it's crap when finished though!

Another Image of Liverpool West
http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/165BeethamTowerWest_pic2.jpg

If you look at the build it's suprisinsly small in terms of floor size, I suspect that will make it look even more elegant, but I think it'll depend on the quaility of the cladding as to wether it'll be the best.

Also have another picture of Birmingham's Beetham looking protectivly over the two 90M "Dorothy Towers"

How come you haven't included the proposed London one on the South Bank? The Boomerang?

It has recently been reduced in size...

But on reflection i think i actually prefer liverpool's 2nd one. Its a better colour and sleeker design.

Beetham Manchester, its the only 'real' scaper there i.e more than 150m according to international standards. Beetham west is a close second. Maybee I will change my mind when it is complete,it does look rather nice in the renders but should have been taller to impress me.

I voted for the brum one first. then i'd go for Liverpool West then Manchester then the first Liverpool Beetham (which i really do think is a poor attempt of a building) sorry fellow liverpoolers.

I like them all. None of them will win any major international architectural prizes, but who gives a toss, they have all made definite contributions to eaach city's skyline have they not?

Even the first Liverpool Beetham was a relief, as it wqas not just another compromised 'in keeping' red brick, low rise design build lump of shite!.. in that context it seemed pretty classy..er, for a while!

Liverpool's beetham 1 was nice, but it looks jaded now compared to the newer ones, i voted for manchester, i just think it looks the most professional. I always remember my dad driving me into town when 1 was being built, and we were staggered by the amount of floors it has on it, bearing in mind i have never been to america. It was awesome to see something that high in liverpool, it sent a benchmark which others are aiming at now

Liverpool west, manc, brum, liverpool no1.

Liverpool no1 doesnt look great but without it I doubt west would be getting built, and neither would half of the northern cluster buildings.

Beetham manc is nice front on and has good height, but the cladding down the sides looks ugly in my opinion. The brum one is too colour saturated I think, theres something I dont like about the cladding. So that leaves West, great shape, nice height in relation to the footprint size - I think over 150m would look daft for such a skinny building.

The second Liverpool one is the nicest by a mile.

Brum is average at best, and this is being generous (though controversially, I prefer the "back"), Manc is utterly uninspiring and characterless, the first Liverpool is actually quite horrible.

Brum and Manc both have horrible cladding, which will date really quickly.

I dont think you can judge the new Liverpool one until it is fully built. Building can look totally different to the renders. But I think it has the potential to be the best.
At present its the Manc one for me.

My goodness, that cladding does actually look almost exactly like the render, WOW! That hardly ever happens!
Beethem West looks great and should be a real quality skyscraper. It gets my vote. It's funny though because if I was being asked which tower was worst I'd say the original Liverpool Beethem tower. It looks like Liverpool is going to have both the worst and the best contributions by Mr Beethem!

Hmmm. My opinion of West has dropped since seeing the cladding. Why oh why is there this fashion for making buildings look like an unfinished game of Tetris? It's just too random and fussy.

It's a lovely shape but yet again I think Beetham's obsession with inelegant, unbalanced cladding features will make it look messy.

I agree -- what's up with the obsession with random vertical blocks of colour? Although, let's remember that it's an ISA obsession, not a Beetham one.

The best is without a doubt Liverpool West! altough not finished yet.

I have to rank like this;

2 - Manchester
3 - Birmingham, because the back is awful!
4 - Liverpool 1

Completely agree regarding the render. It will be very interesting to take the same angled shot once it's completed and compare with that render. I personally think Liverpool are gonna get the best of the bunch with this one.

Can't really pic a best, and with the number of them slowly increasing makes it even harder a choice, lol.. They all have some monumental significance to the cities they dominate, so its hard to judge in that respect...

I've only seen Manc Beetham, Liv Beetham 1 and Brum Beetham.. I don't like the back of Brum's but walkin around the front is really great, the cladding (which can look too busy on photos) is actually really funky and I like it..

Beetham Liverpool is probably the most dated looking of them all, it has a great presence on the waterfront shots, but I think west will completely outshine it (as will any other towers to rise over the coming years)

Manc, its great... but not as fancy as the others

I dont see whats wrong with the back of the Birmingham one. I actually quite like it. I still prefer the front of it though. It's sleek and works amazingly well with the skyline (and will do so in the future).

I cant see how the Manchester one is ahead though. Obviously there is a glitch or a bug with the forum software...

Liverpool's Beetham 1 gets a bad rap, and although it's not the hottest building out there, it's still not half bad - and was a major breakthrough on the Liverpool skyline which made way for the current skyscraper boom..

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1994/imgp3142fq4.jpg

And I have to disagree about Beetham West's cladding, I think it's going to look great when it's finished, I'm not a huge fan of monochromatic glass pannelling, and I like the 'speckled' effect of the tower. I can see how it's not to everyone's asthetic taste, but to call it a 'disaster' is simply ridiculous! (Especially as it currently holds over TWICE as many votes as any other tower!) We'll only be able to properly judge once it's finished, but you cannot deny the impact it's making..

It would be intresting to run this again when it's finished. Well, maybe not intresting, but well you know what I mean.

Although I think the location and slenderness of the Liverpool Tower will means it will always be a strong contender for the best of the Beethams. Really should add the London one too...

Sweet F.A. for the moment. The cladding wraps around to the service core, which should be clad like the rest of the tower, as requested by the planning dept. Nothing going on just yet, as the crane is still attached to the back.
