Jaybird October 8th, 2006, 02:04 AM Great pics again, Michi, thanks for the tour! I like some of the neat angles you got there, too!
hudkina October 8th, 2006, 02:29 AM Great show, Michi!
downtownVital.org October 8th, 2006, 03:27 AM Great views! I particularly like the shot of the Carl's sign with the skyline below.
rbdetsport October 8th, 2006, 04:08 AM Hey Hall Road and Northpointe Boulevard. Right near the Dick's and former Media Play. In that suburbs picture.
TroyBoy October 9th, 2006, 03:55 AM Directly on the right in the suberb pic is a Itlain resteront called Bucchas it is quite good and it comes in huge sizes, good for partys, and all over the walls are the strangest pictures yourll ever see.
ReddAlert October 10th, 2006, 12:16 AM awesome shots! The Book Tower is one of the best skyscrapers in the Midwest.
samsonyuen October 10th, 2006, 01:26 AM Great photoset. I remember seeing a big rubber tire along a freeway (can I be any more vague?) when we used to drive from Toronto to Chicago. Is that still there?
choyak October 10th, 2006, 02:42 AM OMG!!! I never even knew what the Book Tower looked like. I am floored!!! Just superb!!!
I thought at one time there was alot of microwave crap on there. (I remember seeing it somewhere and at that time!!! I did not know it was Book Tower), is it all removed now???
Those little dormers on the roof are awesome!
pjm1970 October 10th, 2006, 03:16 AM I'm kind of fascinated with Detroit. Don't know why.
TroyBoy October 10th, 2006, 04:08 AM http://www.jankaulins.com/images/products/thumbnails/49.jpgThat big tire used to be a ferris wheel.

Yep, that's the Book Tower. It was suppose to be the tallest skyscraper in the world when it was built at around 80 stories. All of the microwave dishes or what have you have been taken down. I don't remember when that was though.
The Book Tower has just recently been awarded funding to transform the use of the building partially from office to residential. Part of the project will include upgrading of the entire structure (tower and building-the shorter portion attached on the south). Hopefully, part of the plans include illumination of the crown because that is arguably is most distinguished detail...especially at night.
Ian604 October 11th, 2006, 04:30 AM Great photos! Some of the best Detroit pics ever.
NaptownBoy October 14th, 2006, 11:11 AM Man, I cant wait for Detroit's revival. So much potential!
MplsTodd October 14th, 2006, 05:24 PM Excellent photos. We stopped in dwtn Detroit this past summer and I was impressed. It gets my vote for most improved downtown! And, given your collection of incredible old buildings, there's so much potential for further improvement!
Go Tigers!
Oaronuviss October 14th, 2006, 05:48 PM Detroiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!
Woo hoo!
Jaybird October 14th, 2006, 07:28 PM ^ lol, you're funny, Oaronuviss!
I just thought of something, with the Detroit Tigers doing as well as they are right now, I think according to an article I read, they WILL be a catalyst as far as the complete revitalization of Detroit is concerned, with all the new hotels being built/renovated and such, I think with the Tigers' success, they will be filled during those games and other things as well, a lot will happen!
The B-C renovation is back under way, btw!
LET'S GO TIGERS! Put away the Oakland A's!
Michi October 14th, 2006, 10:47 PM Detroit sport franchises have definately been a blessing in disguise for the revitalization of the city. Sports is among this city's favorite past times and a lot of time, money, energy, and support is invested in the sports teams. Now, if we can just get some pride from those Lions. Pun intended.
Lmichigan October 15th, 2006, 12:12 AM I think the preceived importance on these teams and events are blown far out of proportion and grossly overstated, and especially by that poorly written Toronto Star article a week or two back which was fully or errors. They definitely add a positive dimension to downtown redevelopment, but the downtown was moving forward just the same when the sports teams weren't doing so great. And it hardly means a "complete revitalization of Detroit." I hate to be gloomy, but there are far more meaningful things going on downtown, though no one will deny that this just adds the cherry on top.

Well, that's Toronto articles and reporters for you, not very well written or accurate, and not very understanding, either. The Tigers' success, is just a cherry on top, that's a good way to put it.
TIGERS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES WOO HOO! LET'S GO TIGERS!
Blitz October 18th, 2006, 10:28 PM I gots tickets to Game 1!!!
i_am_hydrogen October 18th, 2006, 11:28 PM Phenomenal set, Michi. You always do it big and beautiful.
