ok i'm gonna play devil's advocate .. I hate it!

the slanting is pretty weird... even for a bank! I just don't like the glass wall, im sure it'll look great from the other sides tho!

does any one know where in BCD this will be?

Nadini

^^ if im not mistaken, it will be in Martyr Square, I really dont think it will fit well with its surrounding

Yes it has PRIME location, facing the statue!

It is the area on the right enclosed by a wall:

^^ Notice the change at the top?

Well, the sit-in is indeed affecting this project as well... it appears the walls around the plot have been cut through? Also, the logo, etc has been torn off. Maybe someone in the area can clarify this further?

they started digging the site and construction has officially started!!!!

two cranes are digging up the site and they've replaced the drawn-on boards with black ones and concrete mixers are on site passed by it abt half an hour ago

this is one of the ugliest designs i have ever seen! how can solidere accept such a building marking the northern entrance to the square?

^^ actually I like it!
the facade blends well with centre-ville and glass is always nice..

It depends on the cladding they put..we will see...But there has been no activity..What i sthe status? I know its not because banks arent making profits!

The sides are unimpressive ... what will the back look like? It's starting to grow on me but the sides look like an urban parking garage

The original elevations looked much more interesting (I think you can see them on the original post). I'd guess that the new 'car park' effect you describe is partly due to the owners seeking more regular windows for the offices on those sides, and partly due to the extent of the glass on the Martyrs Square facade. If I'm not mistaken, buildings in that zone generally have to have a specific glass/stone ratio, so if you have one facade of glass, the others must have fewer openings...but I'm just guessing.

Actually it looks like it's ON HOLD the lot was dug long time ago.

Nadini

^^ no hassoun, the lot wasn't dug a long time ago. You should stop assuming and do your research. At the moment, the plot is going under new design.

Beautiful!!!! I am a tad bit upset though that martyr's square is being developed by businesses, and religious establishments like mosques that will all close at night.... I wish martyr's square was full of patio restaurants and side walk cafe's, little fashion and music boutiques. You know businesses that would open longer and bring life to the square.

This is a really nice redesign and I do love this more than the original.

You just described Place de l'Etoile. You can't have the entire downtown area busy day and night. I can't really imagine side walk cafes on Martyrs' square.

leb.fr, I just described an urban center... urban cities have that all over not in just one area... and I am imagining live jazz clubs, a huge center with retail space on the bottom floor, a food court on the top floor and maybe a cinema on top (I am not talking about a mall.) And the place de l'Etoile does not have any shopping stores.

Look all I am saying is that I wanted martyr's square to be the beating heart of beirut, like it was pre civil war. And how can you not have a downtown busy all day and night.... THATS WHAT A DOWNTOWN IS. you've officially been in ksa too long. lol GET OUT.

You walk downtown toronto at 12:00 am and there are people everywhere, I doubt paris closes early, and NEW YORK.. well its called the city that doesnt sleep for a reason. Look, downtown is where the nightlife happens, so instead of local businesses opening up in residential areas, they should open downtown. Or rather, solidere should make it possible for them to.

anyway this is getting off topic.

Instead of all bank hq being around beirut, they should be in dt.

The byblos bank, bankmed, and bank audi towers are awesome but they are all in diffrent places.

And we have so much banks, i don't get why????

Construction didn't stop. They are still building it. In about 4 weeks, concrete works will arrive to ground level and basement floors will be completed.

Does anyone know if, after the purchase/merger, SGBL will continue with the plans and complete the building as its headquarters?

If so, where is SGBL now?
