Beiruti November 4th, 2006, 02:59 AM wow look at all the consruction workers for such a small building! This is a very unique building for the BCD...hopefully it will rise fast.
nareg November 4th, 2006, 08:30 AM ^^ Yes, many construction workers.
One of them even noticed that I'm taking pics, wanted me to take another pic with him inside!
Ramazzotti November 4th, 2006, 11:21 PM Excellent news, i like alot its architecture

Lirtain January 12th, 2007, 02:53 AM Living in style and shopping across the street in the Souks.. life should be good for the future tenants there
john2890 April 25th, 2007, 10:04 PM any update on this project?
any new renders, pics etc... i fell in love with that building!
and secondly, can anyone post a map with waygand street marked on it? or maybe directions to it?
nareg April 26th, 2007, 11:58 PM ^^ Works continue. But I don't have new pics.
As for Weygand Street, it stretches from Martyrs Square (near al-Nahar building) to Conbipel Store (near Beirut Souks). Here is a map (http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/2303/weygandstreetqd4.jpg) which shows its location.
john2890 April 27th, 2007, 09:28 PM it reminds me of a building in Paris (Place Iéna) very classy !!!
more like "le printemps" in paris.
btw thanks for the map, i FINNALY found out where the plot lies.

john2890 January 10th, 2008, 08:54 PM come to see it now, it would have looked nicer if the dome resembled that of the other bldg in beirut (the one near Virgin? i forgot its name), ie: bigger and roundier rather than discreet and flat... but still, still has to be one of my favorite projects!
houssam January 10th, 2008, 09:09 PM ^^ its "ufa insurance" bilding i think, and ur right

john2890 March 28th, 2008, 04:33 PM 2 february? do you think its finished by now? i cant wait to see it finished!!
Beiruti March 28th, 2008, 04:44 PM ^^ It has been almost 2 months since this last pic, so we can assume that at least the exterior of the building is complete.
Abu 3Leish March 30th, 2008, 12:43 PM oh yeah the exterior of the building was completed mid-march now theyre working on the comercial interiors of the ground floor and a bit on the top floor i'd give it 1 more month and it should be classified as completed
john2890 March 30th, 2008, 02:01 PM excellent! now i've got a question, obviously we all noticed that this building is very european style. question is, do the muslim communities (also, the conservative christian communities) approve of this type of architecture or would they see it as a way of westernizing the city? would this type of building be taken well if built in hamra for example?
LeB.Fr March 30th, 2008, 04:30 PM ^^ Are you seriously asking this??? Why on Earth would we mind having this type of architecture in Beirut??? On the contracry, I think it's a great addition to Beirut's diverse architecture.
As for building such bldgs in Hamra, I don't think it's a good idea, not because I'm muslim, but because I believe time stopped in Hamra in the 70s, and we should keep it as it is. I don't think this kind of architecture would fit well in Hamra or Verdun...
Beiruti March 30th, 2008, 06:41 PM ^^ I agree, it is laughable to even suggest that anyone would reject any architecture in Beirut - because it is so diverse as it is.
Anyway, most of the mid-high rise apartment buildings in the city and the region can be considered "Western" (even Baalbak temples are western!)
john2890 March 31st, 2008, 12:01 AM yea true, i knew i'd get such an answer but i wanted to be sure, i'm doing a bit of research for uni interview presentation :). i'll give you the details erm, next year! (btw, are those 70's buildings in hamra under threat of demolition and replacement? )
societe semiramis reminds me actually of a photo i saw on flick i think, its a REALLY beautiful french building (parisian type, not riviera type like the ones found in gemmayzeh) which i think is in south beirut because there are hezbollah flags and posters all over it, i'll try to find it soon. but yea thanks...
john2890 March 31st, 2008, 12:07 AM ok it doesnt look so much like societe semiramis, but still take a look at this: http://flickr.com/photos/piven/878971616/sizes/l/
woah!!! (note the ottoman-french fusion)
Beiruti March 31st, 2008, 04:13 AM ^^ Yea it looks nothing like this project but it is still very nice although needs major rehabilitation.
Beiruti March 31st, 2008, 04:15 AM (btw, are those 70's buildings in hamra under threat of demolition and replacement? )
Not really...most of them underwent minor structural renovations already.
john2890 March 31st, 2008, 03:10 PM ^^ Yea it looks nothing like this project but it is still very nice although needs major rehabilitation.
lol, its in a refugee camp! those are refugees with class! (sorta)

Are we sure that it's a residential building? It looks like a hotel with the penthouse at the top floor..
Besides the area would have been perfect for a 5* hotel
