Yes, the whole country we call the United States. But what does it really mean? Is LA slowly but surely becoming a transit-oriented city?

^^ Can we just savor the victory for a minute......... !
Vangelist October 17th, 2006, 09:56 AM Um, this is old news, isn't it? I remember reading about it in June
klamedia October 17th, 2006, 06:12 PM It won primarily because of its Rapid Bus program. There are indeed other systems that are already mature and in that sense are "better" but because of the improvements the system has been making incremently it won this award. And yes, of course, some of this is politics but give me an award that isn't?
archd1 October 18th, 2006, 07:01 AM Despite these awards and publicity, it's still difficult to convince people (both here in LA and outside of LA) that we have a full-functioning public transit system....when gas prices went up we saw an increase in ridership! now that gas prices are going down, it would be interesting to see what the ridership numbers will be...

klamedia October 19th, 2006, 07:21 PM Yes, like hi-tech eels.
godblessbotox October 19th, 2006, 10:35 PM call me bias but i like my discription better
Elsongs October 20th, 2006, 12:36 PM I stil don't know about "America's Best" but I would agree with APTA awarding Metro for being "Most Improved." There were a lot of things done in the past few years that should have happened years ago -- the daypass, bike racks, etc. Metro now has an "image" and a vision, something it sorely lacked in its early days and further back when it was the RTD.
I also think APTA awards every system the award, I mean NYC and Chicago and Washington already got theirs years ago, so I guess it was just our turn :) :) :)
klamedia October 22nd, 2006, 02:59 AM Still a valid honor considering LA's infamous transit system.
So what was your discription(sic) "botox"?
