Joey313, development, architecture, city issues etc are a peculiar interest especially for high schoolers.

You're unique and you shouldn't be dissapointed if you can't find others who share this interest. I've been interested in city development since middle school (I would play Sim City @ school nonstop). Just be happy that thanks to the glory that is the internet you can connect with other "weirdos" who like this stuff haha. ;)

well, if anyone catches you on here and says it's not that interesting, just say "hey, someone had to build our homes, the places we work, and how we get there." shopping malls for all you slaves to suburbia

you know, adam sandler was a drafter in that movie "click" and everyone still loves him

I think anyone here who still attendshigh school gets that "Dude you like weird stuff." But don't let that get you discouraged, they are just ignorant people who are going to end up earing $ 7.50 an hour.

OMG, there's more to life than MTV, MySpace and Youtube....the built, urban environment practically affects everyone and it is right up there with politics, religion and economics as major issues we should be concerned about. It's good that at an early age you are aware of these things.....what other people think or say doesn't matter, you are in good company here!!!!

Hey......i go on myspace, youtube, listen to MTV and check this site out...lol..but yeah i really dont tell people about this website, unless its someone that likes to play sim city (awesome game).......and when i do they either say "meh......" or, which is rare "omg i love this kind of stuff thx"........

Who cares what other people think or say?

I've always had a fascination with cities and skyscrapers as a kid. And yes, other kids thought it was a strange thing to be interested in. But you know what? Some of those kids work for me now. :D

Joey313, is what other people say gonna change whether or not you like it here or even that you like the stuff this site talks about?

i don't tell anybody unless they ask and really, i don't even know the sites that my closest friends go to... we simply don't care about each other's sites...

i know that all of my friends know about LA LIVE and other projects, but not because of this site, we check out the posters when we walk to a lakers or clippers game...

^^ i dont really care what people think .
when they ask me why do you go on that site i just say because its cool
example
toady we had to do this thing where we write our interest on paper and ask other people in our class if they like the same thing. then someone goes, "you like skyscrapers"!!!? and i was like yes they started to laugh( but not in a mean way). so yeah i dont really care its not going to make me stop coming here.

If you haven't decided what you want to major in in college, I STRONGLY recommend you take up Urban Planning. You will love it and will go far in that field.

There's planning jobs in both the private and public sectors. In the private sector you can work for planning and design firms, development firms, architectural firms. In the public sector you can work for planning-related entities like the CRA, MTA, SCAG and the LA City Dept of Planning.

Actually no, I'm part-time musician and part-time evaluation consultant. If I had the time and money I'd get a master's in Urban Planning though.

Don't feel bad Joey313, I remember when I first joined SSP back in '98 i think there were only very few forumers (under 50) and now there's like 2,000+ and not counting all the forumers here on SSC. So that tells you right there theres thousands and thousands of poeple out there that love cities, skyscrapers, architecture and all that good stuff. A lot of people out there don't even know about these websites but when they discover them some even become almost addicted to them. Like me for example, I'm not a big time poster here or on SSP but I love to read and follow up on development news everywhere around the world but especially LA so I check almost daily for news and updates. Plus, where else can you find the awesome pictures and project renderings?

for the record, Einstein was very weird. the man spent a lifetime figuring out the theory of relativity, but couldn’t spare 10 seconds to comb his hair before taking a photograph.
