Developer Eykt together with modenist architect PK in Reykjavik have announced their plans to erect a 19 storey office tower, and two smaller residential towers in a small cluster in the centre of Reykjavik - Iceland

To some the project is know as Höfdatorg, or Höfdi Square, where the name Höfdi is the same as Höfdi House, used in the 1986 Reagan-Gorbatchev summit. The 19 storey tower (formerly proposed as a 16 storey tower) will face the green lot surrounding Höfdi House, creating a rather interesting interplay between the historic Jugendesque building and the ultra-modern proposal:

Wow, should be great for Reykjavik to get its first tall building :D It's great to see these cities grow.

Great - hope it gets built.
@Rocky - no, this won't be northernmost city with highrises. Arkhangelsk in Russia and Yellowknife in Canada have 20+ floor buildings and they are further north than Reykjavik

There is good chance it will get built, in some way or the other. The older plans - which called for a 16 storey office tower - are already approved. The developer has aleady built the 6 storey lowrise that you can see in the foreground of the model, and the rest of the area is virtually one big hole, with earthmovers munching on the rocks, creating a space for a subterranean parking basement...

It's interesting how the rendering of the buildings actually look like they are made of ice. I hope it gets built. It's been nearly 20 years since I've last been to Iceland.

Looks nice. Is the city running out of space downtown?

Not really, but the prices are getting unbelievably high with regards to how small a city this is. Land value is rising, especially in the centre, bringing down barriers to projects like this.

This would be among the three - four tallest buildings in the city. There's one 20 storey tower U/C in another district in the city (probably the tallest), and one 19 storey residential tower U/C nearby. Hallgrimskirkja, or Hallgrimschurch, will remain the tallest building though ...
