Vitoria-Gasteiz tramway network
Under Construction: 2007-2009.

Vitoria-Gasteiz, capital-city of the spanish Basque Country, is located 80 km. away from Bilbao (http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=301682), regions main city. It has 227.000 inhabitants.

This city is home of Tau Ceramica Baskonia basketball team, world famous Rioja Alavesa wines, Heraclio Fournier playing cards, International Jazz Festival, or Mercedes-Benz Vito production.

Vitoria-Gasteiz is a real peaceful, clean and quiet city, with large parks and avenues, and with a human scale urbanism. A good example for cities planning.

Currently public transportation is based on buses and, to improve it, Basque Government and local authorities has planned a two lines tramway network (7,8 km. long).
Basque Governments Euskotran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euskotran) will manage this tramway network and the trams will be like Bilbao ones (http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/es/trams/Bilbao/pix.html).

60.000.000 € is the budget of this project. Works started last month and will finished 2 years ago; enlargements of the network under construction are proposed yet.

Bueno, hoy me he ido de nuevo a hacer fotos del estado de las obras del Tranvía de Vitoria y en el ramal de Abetxuko el avance está siendo muy intenso, así como las cocheras que hace un par de meses no había absolutamente nada. Voy a dividir el reportaje en 4 partes: Paradas, Ramal Común, Lakua, Abetxuko. OJO es MUY LARGO.

Paradas
Bueno pongo una pila de fotos de las paradas que ya están ''hechas''. Aún faltan las marquesinas, maquinaria autoventa, paneles, etc, etc, pero bueno ya se puede hacer uno una idea de como van a ser. Me gusta mucho lo bajísimo que son los andenes. Por supuesto, todas tienen rampas adaptadas para minusválidos.

El ramal común, como ya está muy fotografiado, me he centrado en lo que está aún en obras. Cabe destacar que finalmente el ramal del centro parece que se prolongará por la calle Angulema hasta el cruce de la calle Pio XII y Florida.

Testing the tram.

Bueno, ayer, por fin cacé al flamante Tranvía patatero. La verdad es que sólo había ido un día a buscarlo y fui bastante tarde. Pero ayer saqué un ratillo y lo pillé, estaban con unos minusválidos probando la accesibilidad que tiene, tema cuestionado durante esta semana.

Cacé la segunda de las 10 unidades. La 502. Y me sorprendió el tamaño, es bastante grandecito y el silencio, el juguetito es realmente silencioso :)

Bueno os pongo las 3 fotillas que le hice. Son de móvil así que la calidad deja bastante que desear.

I was in Vitoria-Gasteiz this summer and have seen the construction works. Nice tram. Are these the same trams that are used in Bilbao?

No, but they are similar. Vitoria's tram have five modules (1st-3rd-5th with bogies), Bilbao's trams have three modules, all with bogies.
