Sabretooth December 5th, 2006, 12:24 AM Oh ik, for Brutalism or against Brutalism architecture...its a tough choice, but there are no wrong answers.
Architecture is and always will be purely subjective. That's what's great about it.
If everyone agreed, it'd be boring and completely lost.
And we'd probably live in either mud huts or McMansions. Which is worse?
ExWNY'er December 5th, 2006, 12:32 AM ^So true- there are people out there that would hate the Guarantee or a Frank Lloyd Wright house like the Darwin Martin. Someone thought the Donovan was adequate becausethe design was chosen and it got built.
BuffCity December 5th, 2006, 04:28 AM There has been no stalking of NYC007, however the West Village Renaissance Group has a tracking system to determine what type of referrals are connected to its website. This allows the group to see what type of information people are seeking when entering the site so the group may address future needs or services.
We did, however, watch for a response to assure we were able to address any issues such as the one brought up here.
When the link was noted to a Skyscraper City entry we were first elated to see such a group with links to our website, but after reading the entry felt that it seemed more of a personal opinion that did not reflect the mission of the WVRG. We felt it was necessary to address the issue in order to assure the views that were expressed (referring to "inner-city people" in a derogatory term, the use of "Ghetto-ria Mall" insinuating that those "inner-city people" created the base for this term, utilization of the term "poor white trash" and the back up of a visitor stating that the view of the Food Court made people from Detroit look "sexy") which, in itself, seemed sophmoric. The poster's use of the link to the West Village website also might be construed as the opinion of the residents of the area as well as the WVRG who hosts the site.
However, the identity of NYC007 was never divulged to the group. Only the quote from the post for their input. The response, overall, was that we address the fact that the post had nothing to do with the West Village or the WVRG. If one uses the link you will see that we mention that the West Village celebrates the cultural diversity in the area. The comments made seemed mean-spirited, almost elitist, and so, were not in line with the mission of the WVRG.
With that in mind, please realize that we only wish to maintain the outreach and inclusiveness that a neighborhood with such an overwhelming population of various cultures needs in order to continue to perform outreach to all residents, no matter their background, race, income level, or needs without compromising any partnerships we have formed in this past year.
just remember BuffCity is watching you...:)

That's why i loved going into urban planning & architecture as a professional field...having a trained eye makes every city you go to more interesting. Instead of just seeing generic modern vs old buildings to the untrained eye...it becomes Frank Lloyd Wright vs Gaudy or whoever.

I've heard the elevators are being worked on, which is good because I hear the regular passenger ones have been out of commission for a few years now.

...The developer's first tenants, a group of state agencies, will move into 25,000 square feet of redone space this month. Iskalo said he has letters of intent for additional tenants, who potentially will take 10,000 square feet in the 12-story, 148,000-square-foot structure.
While this season's tower light show will be late arriving, Iskalo said, plans are in the works to make future seasons brighter and more colorful. The owner is planning to replace the existing light fixtures with a state-of-the-art system of lamps and controls that will make it possible to change light colors without climbing up on the tower to switch shades.
Those changes also will make the lighting more energy-efficient.
DallasTexan December 5th, 2006, 05:06 PM That's cool. We heard downtown that they were shut off because the high cost (especially with no tenants). Glad to see they'll be back and more efficient.
Sabretooth December 5th, 2006, 06:52 PM Look forward to seeing it.
