Shaikh Suroor and Eirvin Knox, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, sign the contract for Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi.
Dh2.5b Etihad Towers unveiled
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will host a new Dh2.5 billion mixed-use development, namely Etihad Towers, comprising five towers ranging from 49 to 74 floors and exceeding 300 metres.
Shaikh Suroor Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan signed four contracts with Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) as sole lender, Arabian Construction Company (ACC) as the main contractor, Tabreed for cooling, and Canadian company Cansult as construction supervision consultant.
ADCB will provide a term loan facility of Dh2.4 billion for 15 years to fin-ance the construction of Etihad Towers, while Tabreed will provide the project with 12,500 tonnes of refrigeration (TR) cooling services. Cooling services will be provided from the Baynoona plant, and the project is expected to be completed by 2010. Tabreed recently announced six major contract wins in Abu Dhabi, and will build three new cooling plants in the city to service them.
The towers will include a high-end hotel with a capacity of 600 rooms, as well as 900 residential apartments, and 65,000 square metres of office space.
The project's theme concept has been designed by the Australian International design consultant (DBI), and will include as well eight unique restaurants, a large ballroom, as well as a private beach.

Abu Dhabi Boy April 17th, 2007, 10:36 PM Jumeirah Signs In Abu Dhabi
4/16/2007 3:09:55 PM
At a signing ceremony held this morning in Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan has appointed Jumeirah, the dynamic and rapidly growing luxury hospitality group and a member entity of Dubai Holding, to manage one of Abu Dhabi’s most prestigious and iconic new beach front developments located in the exclusive Khalideya area of the city.
Jumeirah Etihad Towers, developed under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan’s Department of Special Projects, will feature several towers including a hotel, an office building and serviced residences as well as commercial and retail space. The project management for this prestigious new development is handled by Hill International, the assigned architects for the project are DBI and ACC is the main contractor.
Scheduled to open late 2010, the 60 storey luxury hotel tower will comprise 400 beautifully appointed guest rooms & suites as well as 200 fully serviced apartments varying from studios to spacious one, two and three bedroom apartments. In addition, the development will include a high end shopping boulevard, extensive conference & banqueting facilities, a spa and sport & recreation facilities, which will be open to the hotel guests, residents and office tower tenants. Located on Abu Dhabi’s world renowned Corniche, the hotel will have a private sandy beach for guests to enjoy.
His Highness Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan commented: “We are pleased to open the welcome gate of Abu Dhabi to the Jumeirah Group and together we accept the challenge of adding value to the Abu Dhabi Tourism market. We are certain that Jumeirah will be as successful here as they have been in Dubai and elsewhere.”
Gerald Lawless, Executive Chairman of Jumeirah Group commented: “We are honoured to be appointed by His Highness Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan to manage this most prestigious new hotel development, in one of the region’s most vibrant and fast developing cities. Skoulikimou August 21st, 2007, 10:19 AM DBI Design has further cemented its status as a leading international practice by winning a world-wide competition
DBI Design has designed a 5-tower project in the Middle East, valued at more than A$860 million (AED$2.5 billion). DBI Design was awarded the lead design consultant contract for architecture, interior design and landscape architecture on the project. The project, Etihad Towers, will be located on a prominent waterfront site close to the central Abu Dhabi business district, at the end of the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Compromising five iconic towers ranging in height from 55 to 77 storeys, in excess of 300 metres high, with a total built up area of 500,000m², Etihad Towers will feature an array of amenities, including an international five-star hotel, a boutique shopping mall, premium office tower, a hypermarket and quality residential apartments. It is set to be one of the most prestigious projects in Abu Dhabi.
The Etihad Towers development will consist of three residential towers, and one hotel/serviced apartment tower, centred by an office tower incorporating more than 65,000m² of lettable area. Including a retail podium, the group will be united by a basement car park of four levels, with a capacity for more than 3,000 cars.
All hotel rooms, apartments and office floors will have stunning sea views, overlooking the Abu Dhabi coastline. Etihad Towers’ signature building, the five-star hotel, will accommodate 400 rooms and 200 services apartments, to be operated by Jumeirah, operators of the seven-star Buj al Arab in Dubai and many other prestigious hotels around the world. The high-quality residential apartments will total 870, designed in a variety of configurations to suit all buyers.
The Etihad Towers complex will also house Abu Dhabi’s largest state-of-the-art convention centra and ballroom, at over 2,500m². Complementing these will be a retail center incorporating outlets for major international designer and fashion labels; and eight restaurants. Etihad Towers is scheduled to be completed by early 2010.

Yes I trully agree.
although Bab Al-Qasr tower will complement Emirates Palace i think, but it will overshadows Etihad Tower. :(
Plus, I really don't understand why they are building so many towers there in the first place, wouldn't that be a security issue to Emirates Palace and presidential Palace in the future.

Additionally the company will execute 12 restaurants ranging from casual-chic to fine dining and an observation deck that will have panoramic views in all directions.

We are grateful to His Highness Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammad Al Nahyan and the management team of Etihad Towers for selecting DecoVision."
"DecoVision will be working on the furniture, fit-outs, joinery and laying out marble flooring and panels. The scale of the development has presented us with an opportunity to reinforce our reputation as Abu Dhabi's preferred interior solutions provider. The expected date of delivery is early 2011," he said.
The contract was awarded to DecoVision based on its vast experience in designing and executing major hospitality, commercial, residential and government spaces. Farran added, "DecoVision has the ability to turn around material from our own furniture and decoration factory, giving us greater quality and operational control and considerably reducing the lead time. ABU DHABI // The five curvy, shimmering towers in a layered cluster reflect every shade of blue from the sea and sky on the west end of the Corniche.
The Etihad Towers are not finished but they already dominate in the Ras al Akhdar district.
Developed by the Sheikh Suroor Projects Department (SSPD) and designed by DBI Design, Australia's largest architecture and design company, the towers are expected to reinvent luxury in Abu Dhabi.
"Our job was to create buildings that can become reflective of a sophisticated and international city," says Lawrence Greenman, the senior project leader at DBI.
In 2006, DBI won a private competition for the project from six other companies. The competition called for a design for four towers by the waterfront at the end of the Corniche.
"The site of the towers is unique," says Barry Lee, a company and design director at DBI. "It is a major access point to the city and consequently deserved a symbolic, powerful design that could represent the change in Abu Dhabi."
After winning the lead contracts for architecture, interior design and landscape architecture, DBI went to work immediately, and as the project evolved, four towers became five.
"We focus on buildings that are environmentally, culturally and socially sustainable," Mr Lee says. "We explore ideas that aren't normally reflected in conventional buildings, most of which are quite aggressive or boxy with rational, straight lines and angles."
DBI wanted the Etihad Towers to symbolise the nature and culture surrounding them.
"We had a lot of inspiration to draw from in Abu Dhabi," says Mr Lee.
Using the capital's history as a port city, the designers came up with the idea of billowing sails when imagining the curves of the building.
Sketches of falcons and images of overlapping and unfurling flower petals provided the organic quality to how the buildings should be grouped.
"The buildings may not reflect these things directly, save for the obvious allusion to sails blowing in the wind, but we relied on these elements for the structural interpretation," Mr Greenman says.
The result is a very specific grouping of the towers, which ensures that from whichever direction they are viewed at least two are always visible.
The slightly reflective blue and silver glass used on the buildings bounces light in different directions. Depending on the time of day, some are highlighted while others are in shadow. It is all deliberate.
"The way the light bounces off the buildings make them shimmer and the light between the buildings interplays as well," says Mr Greenman. "It all helps make them look taller and more slender and more elegant.
"No matter where you look at the complex you don't have a large area of building pointed directly at you because of the reflection of the light and the curves making the buildings look narrower than they are."
The tallest of the towers, 300 metres and 75 floors, will be one of three residential buildings. Among the three there are 885 apartments, ranging from one to four bedrooms and offering penthouse units.
The other two towers will be offices, in the shortest of the five at 54 floors, and a hotel managed by Jumeirah Group, the hospitality subsidiary of Dubai Holding, which will be in the second-tallest tower.
Two of the towers sit in a space that will be landscaped by DBI, while the other three spring from a podium base, says Mr Lee.
"Within the podium there will be a state-of-the-art convention centre that can cater for groups of more than 2,200, and an 1,800 square metre ballroom that can accommodate 1,000 people for a set menu and about 1,400 people in conference mode," he says
There will be 12 food and beverage outlets and two independent restaurants as well, covering everything from Japanese to French to traditional Arabic cuisine."
The towers are planned to redefine luxury in a contemporary setting, including an internationally renowned spa and exclusive retail space.
But despite the exclusive feel, Mr Lee insists the towers will be a draw for everyone in the city.
"The key to the concept of this development is that it is a very welcoming place, intended to be a place of pride for the city," he says.
"Everyone can benefit from the space and feel welcome."

gevorika78 August 24th, 2011, 02:59 AM Etihad Towers on schedule for first handover by end-2011
http://www.arabianbusiness.com/etihad-towers-on-schedule-for-first-handover-by-end-2011-417054.html
Etihad Towers, a major new development in Abu Dhabi, is on schedule to handover its first homes and offices later this year, developers said on Tuesday.
Sheikh Suroor Projects Department (SSPD) said the five towers, ranging from 54 to 75 floors, and rising over 300 metres, would be targeted at the number of global professionals arriving in the UAE capital.
Sami Al Khuwaiter, project director, said: "Abu Dhabi has established its credentials as a truly global city, and today, witnesses an unprecedented developmental momentum. The rising prominence of the city as a regional thought leader and business hub has been complemented by the arrival of global professionals, who demand the best in lifestyle choices."
He added that the mixed-use development, which also includes a five-star Jumeirah hotel and a boutique shopping mall, would "serve as the new benchmark in luxury property lifestyle choices in Abu Dhabi".
The different components of Etihad Towers will open doors in phases beginning this year, he added.
The 885 apartments and penthouses, ranging from one to five bedrooms, are now available for lease, he said, adding that the office tower would offer a total of more than 45,000 sq m of leasable area over 54 floors.
Several international brands have signed up to operate stores in the retail tower, Al Khuwaiter said, offering the "best global brands", without naming any specific operators.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi will offer a five star hotel with 382 rooms and suites, 199 serviced apartments, and a range of beauty, fashion and relaxation amenities including the Talise Spa.
The master-development, with its own private beach, will also feature one of Abu Dhabi's largest and most contemporary convention centres and a grand ballroom that can cater for groups of over 2,200.

The Jumeirah property, which has 382 rooms and 199 serviced apartments, opens tomorrow and is expecting to benefit as sports fans head to Abu Dhabi for a packed series of events that kicks off with the Formula One race on November 13.
The hotel, operated by the Dubai company that manages the Burj Al Arab, will offer the first public access to the five-tower mixed-use Etihad Towers development on the Corniche, on which building work started five years ago. It is the operator's first hotel in the capital.
"The city of Abu Dhabi should end up with the heaviest season now in November and December," said Doris Greif, the general manager of the Jumeirah Etihad Towers hotel. "[For] Formula One [it] is fully booked."
She said the hotel was opening about 40 per cent of its rooms for the motorsport event.
Abu Dhabi will get hundreds of new rooms in the next week with the opening of the Park Hyatt and St Regis resorts on Saadiyat Island in addition to the Westin and Rocco Forte hotels. The Westin resort, which will open at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club next week, is expecting to run a full house for race week.
"Over the Formula One period we are close to fully booked," said Klaus Niefer, the general manager of the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa, which is set to opennext Monday.
"Anecdotally, from what I've heard, again the town is going to be full for Formula One," said Lawrence Franklin, the director of strategy and policy at the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
"The other thing that's important with Formula One is we know that there's a dedicated base of fans, repeat vistitation, and I think that's really helping."

Events surrounding the Volvo Ocean Race also start at the end of the year. Celebrations surrounding National Day are also expected to bring many guests to hotels.
Rotana said its Centro Yas Island was already fully booked for this year's Formula One even before last year's race. The company's nine other hotels in the capital have also filled up for the Formula One event. The company operates more than 3,000 rooms in the capital.
"Most of [Rotana's] hotels are 100 per cent fully booked," said Adrian Deegan, the area sales and marketing director at Rotana Hotels.
He said room rates for the event were up marginally on the same time last year and averaged about Dh2,000 (US$544.51) in the city. The operator is launching a hotel under its budget Centro brand in downtown Abu Dhabi tomorrow.
"We're quite optimistic about the hotel market, even considering the additional hotel openings," Mr Deegan said, adding that he expected occupancy levels to drop just slightly in the capital as a result. "The fourth quarter is still very strong. The leisure business is very strong. The Christmas and New Year period we have a lot of Russian tourists."
An observation deck in Etihad Towers, which is linked to the Jumeirah hotel, will be managed by the luxury operator. The deck is 300 metres up at level 75 of Tower 2, the tallest of the five towers. This will be the highest observation point yet operational in Abu Dhabi. The ticket price for the attraction has yet to be decided, Ms Greif said.
"There will be a cafe at the top of the building, and there will be a mini theatre with 12 seats. There will be information on … the history of Abu Dhabi."

Main contractor Arabian Construction Company (ACC) is constructing a 'floating restaurant' at the $961.3m new Etihad Towers project in Abu Dhabi.
This is the final component of the five-tower, mixed-use project, which was largely completed in November last year, with the Jumeirah Hotel component opening in time for the Formula One.
“We are leasing the office tower now; we are ready to open. We hope the tenants will finalise their fit-outs by the end of March and the beginning of April.
