As you know at the top of the SSC page there is a different banner featured every day for a different country/city. I am aware that a Lebanon banner was once featured a very long time ago if I am not mistaken, but that was before this forum existed and before many of our forumers (including myself) were members.

That being said, and considering recent events in Lebanon - both the construction boom and the war - it is time for us to develop a new banner that can highlight the beauty of the country as well as symbolize the Lebanese pride and determination to move on and rebuild.

This new banner, once agreed upon by a majority of forumers, will be submitted to be featured on Lebanese Independence Day (Nov 22) this year.

I ask EVERYONE to get creative and start coming up with ideas and even proposals for the Lebanon banner. This is really important for us and so the more options we have to choose from the better.

new banner size will be 719 x 123 pixels so if people want to go ahead and create some, please do. Mind that image depth must be 72 dpi and please don't add any text markup to the image

^^ Beirut! I wanted to tell you about this a week ago, but I figured it was to soon for now. I asked Jan to reserve us november 22 to put up a banner for Lebanon's independance. Just like you, I wanted our fellow forumers to create a banner that is about Lebanon's independance (must include a urban picture in it) and we would chose the top 3. Although if u like to start it off from now, then let's do it :)

jaymie I like your 1st one a lot (especially the concept) its just that u need to make sure the measurements are correct (719 x 123) and try and make it so the pics come out clearer and are not distorted. Nice work though!

I just want to make a couple points in general... remember guys that this banner will be seen by all SSC users, many of which either have no idea about Lebanon at all or have never even visited our forum. Therefore, this banner will have an important first impression on them and should be so attention-grabbing that it will prompt them to take a closer look and actually want to visit the form and learn more about the country.

That being said, I think we should really think hard in making this banner, because there can only be one and it will only be up for 24hrs. SO, since its so damn small and we are limited in how many images of Lebanon we can show, lets make sure they are the really interesting and eye-catching pics that can represent as much of the city as possible.

Our main goal is to display Lebanon for the rest of the world and stir interest in a country that most people haven't really thought about before.


PS. As much as I like Habtoor City, I dont want people to think that is the only tower we have. Remember, this is skyscraper forum and most people at SSC only care for stunning urban views and skylines.

^^ The first one is actually much better than the second for a couple reasons. The SSC logo will be in the bottom left corner so it will cover the text, and also the map isnt exactly a great image to include (flag is better).

I think the first one is a great improvement but some people will question why 2 churches are featured on the banner and no mosques.... actually I would prefer no religious buildings.

I see your point Nadini, but it will be impossible to show both evenly (the church on the right is too distant and not clearly identifiable as a church, where as placing the huge al-Amin mosque right in the center is too in-your-face). As nice as it is to show religious buildings co-existing, this forum is about Skyscrapers and the people at SSC in general are not too fond of religion. Lets show the urban side of Lebanon and not reinforce the stereotype of religion dominating the country's lifestyle. I just dont think its so good having a giant mosque as the central image... does anyone else see my point?

As much as I love the pic of the Hotel District, I feel weird about having the bombed-out Holiday Inn as an image that represents Lebanon. Lets focus on the new not the unfortunate past.

About nature, I think it would be great to show the snow-capped mountains rather than that pic that looks like New Hampshire lol. Lets not overdo the nature though and rather focus on urban scenes.

And I love the BCD pic I just wish it were easy to crop... what you you mean by color alterations?

Sorry to be such a pain but why the image on the far right? It is a rendering of only one building (Beirut Tower) while that waterfront is now actually filled with construction and the Marina Tower is nearly complete. I really think the Marina Tower should be included in whatever banner is chosen.

The brown trunk will be covered up by the SSC Logo. It wont really show, but I know what you mean.

It was really a toss-up... I really like the 2nd pic in #3 of the skyline and marina, but #9 had 2 winners for me, the martyrs square shot with the lebanese flag and the cedar with the snow-capped mountains in the background.

I made 15, but thats not why I voted for it... Nadini is right, its the best choice (out of the leading ones) because it shows more of the urban side of Lebanon, has the flag, historical downtown, skyline & palm trees (which I love) AND NO inclusion of ANY religious buildings (safest way).

I love 9 also, but one reason why I didnt chose that one is because it showed an image of only Christianity (the Virgin Mary and the Church) and not of all the other religions we have. Thats why I prefered to chose another one, I think Beirut! has the same thought.

First of all, I thank all who prepared the banners.
Secondly, congratulations to all who voted for 15 (including me).

To all those who wanted banner #9 to win the poll, the only shortcoming, as my friends already mentioned, was that it did not give a full image of our country. It had a religious background. In forums like this, it is imperative to avoid mentioning or referring to religious and/or sectarian factors. Moreover, in banners, we want to show something significant or important. Unfortunately, Lebanon is not that much worldwide known, therefore showing the new high-rises in Beirut is preferable, because the latter implies that the country is going back to its former glory.
