I live in Jeonju...Saemangeum is near area of Jeonju...
Jeollabuk-do's Provincial Capital is Jeonju.

Wow, I am in Jeonju at the moment.

I am VERY interested in the Saemangeum project. And the investment going into it.

Korea 2002 ... I'm interested if you know about local political positions regarding this project. I talked to Cho Bae-sook last week but only
quickly asked about Saemangeum and she didn't really clarify her outlook on it. Can you outline (if possible) any local Jeollabuk-do political dynamics related
to the project. On the forum or via PM is OK in either English or Korean.

Thanks.

To korea2002

Would you stop posting ugly clone-like commie apartment blocks?

Those kind of apartments you post are souless, characterless and uninspiring.
You don't need to post every construction of korea in every single corner of the country, incluiding someting like public housing projects.
You are misleading people

Why don't you post good ones rather massive consrtuction of lots ugly ones, quality before quantity
Quality is more important than quantity!

Here is your another NICE WORK!, I like it very much.

Can't they ever be more creative than a bunch of commie apartment blocks? Cmon Koreans!

Can't you see lots of better projects than only focusing on a bunch of ugly commie blocks?

Can't you ever find out creative projects of korean not here in this thread than pointing a finger at a bunch of commie apartment blocks, seating on your chair comfortly infront of your monitor?

or otherwise, you just want to see what you want to see here.

There is a famous korean saying
"The saint can find and see the beatutiful thing among even the dirties things while the pig can find and see the ugly thing amons even the most beautiful things."
(sorry for the poor translation, it is not mating English perfectly)

Cmon, you can do better than this.

Chaotic urban sprawls are what I typically see in S. Korea. New ugly commie block apartments are going up without any consideration to what negative effects they are going to impose on the city dwellers.
New constructions that may well contribute to the stress level of city living should never be permitted. Designer's apartments that enhance the quality of city living is what I would like to see more of in SK.

Koreas Stalagmite City

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/1890KoreasStalagmiteCity_pic1.jpg

Plans are afoot to create a startling new city in South Korea, located 35 kilometres south of the capital, Seoul.

The new town will be named Gwanggyo, a name that has nothing to do with under pressure Scrabble players.

With every town needing a centre (although this town plans to have two), a competition was launched to find something worthy of the new town and it was Dutch architects MVRDV who came up with the winning design for one of the planned centres.

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/1890KoreasStalagmiteCity_pic2.jpg

Running with a green theme the design named Gwanggyo Power Centre will see eleven 'green hills' springing up from the ground the tallest of which will be 28 floors high. The hills are made up of rings stacked up on each other, in much the same way as contours of rock ring around stalagmites.

The terraces and roofs of the building will be planted with box hedges able to not only give the hills there green look but will improve ventilation and reduce power and water consumption. It will also give a little privacy to the terraces that may be needed as the centre could house up to 77,000 people.

The hills will also house office, educational and retail spaces as well as many leisure areas. Atriums feature in each of the towers acting as lobby areas in the housing and offices towers, plazas in the shopping malls and as halls in the museum and leisure areas.

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/1890KoreasStalagmiteCity_pic3.jpg

By using the atriums in this manner it ensures there is plenty of public space within the centre for socialising and general chilling out. Voids within the towers connect to the atriums to feed them with light and air and count as semi-public spaces too boot, on lower levels these spaces are connected ensuring all the towers are connected to each other and all of the available amenities.

Acting as a backdrop to the scheme will be a large lake and luscious forested hillsides making the area a truly green oasis despite the bustling atmosphere it will create.

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/1890KoreasStalagmiteCity_pic4.jpg

A consortium lead by Daewoo will be developers of the project along with local firm DA Group, while engineering the scheme will be British firm Arup.

Still in planning stages the project will when built provide 200,000square metres of housing space, 48,000 square metres of offices, 200,000 square metres mix of culture, retail, leisure and education and 200,000 square metres of parking.

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/1890KoreasStalagmiteCity_pic5.jpg

All being well, the project could be complete 2011.

I have recently read an article that more traditional Koreans homes are sought by people. I would like to see more of the beautiful traditional styled homes called HanOks to be developed with modern day building efficiency. I know Korean traditional homes are beautiful but not quite practical in terms of space and weather proofing. How about a new building design concept that incorporates both the beauty of Hanok and efficiency of a modern building?

HOK Sport Venue Event has won the contract to design a new 70k-capacity stadium that is to be used as the main stadium for the 2014 Asian Games. It is to be reduced to a 30k capacity stadium afterwards. Here is the design of the new stadium:

http://www.greenlaunches.com/entry_image/0509/08/Populous2-thumb-450x318.jpg

Personally, I think this stadium will never be built because there is already an existing stadium to play the role that this new stadium is intended for.
