bestbud May 2nd, 2012, 11:01 PM Ffynybyrn, the big question is was that a quick glimpse of you on the total station just before the end?
Understandably, it was quite dumbed down for Joe Public but worth a watch for some of the close up detail.
Maderz May 2nd, 2012, 11:01 PM Talking about the £10m+ apartments: "with good transport links" (VT of London Bridge station).
As if the clients would be travelling with the plebs! :D
 It's as if the voiceover script got jumbled with a property Ad.
The Shard Baby May 2nd, 2012, 11:02 PM The best subject placed programme I have ever seen on TV has just been shown!
They called a slipform rig a black box !!!!!
Some of you missed the documentary to go on this forum:?
Taller London May 2nd, 2012, 11:03 PM what the hell the documentary missed out sooo much about the building like how the glass was made and what it would look like inside. all what was said about it was that it is the tallest in western Europe about a millions times
im a little disappointed about it really it could have been so much more informative

I expect/hope more documentaries on the Shard after it's opening.

I agree with you.
I remember when this was just a 21 storey core.
And I mentioned this before, but I have met Peter Savoy (maceboy).
This building has taken up 6 years of my 13 year life and it's finally here.
I can't wait to release my diagram time-lapse which is ready and waiting for external completion.
musefreek May 2nd, 2012, 11:08 PM I thought the documentary was awesome. The script was obviously written to tailor to a broader audience. To all those who whine and moan about it, be thankful we got it to start with!
The Shard Baby May 2nd, 2012, 11:12 PM If you missed it, you should have a very good reason for it:

Cat man do May 2nd, 2012, 11:14 PM We'll I'm off to watch it again on +1
The Shard Baby May 2nd, 2012, 11:21 PM Why did it have to be so short!!!!! They had an interview with all the steel erectors apart from ffinybryn, they only had the creator himself, Renzo Piano for about 30 seconds, but very good time-lapse footage-Some cam views we didn't even know of.
SouthViews May 2nd, 2012, 11:22 PM We'll I'm off to watch it again on +1
Oh while your there can you verify whether this is the tallest building in western Europe or not
ffinybryn May 2nd, 2012, 11:24 PM Ffynybyrn, the big question is was that a quick glimpse of you on the total station just before the end?
Autographs later boys...
It did seem to jump around a lot. Missing out the first 40 floors of steel completely. But how do you condense over 3 years of demolition & construction into less than 1 hour without missing great chunks out? Could have been a mini-series.
Cat man do May 2nd, 2012, 11:25 PM Oh while your there can you verify whether this is the tallest building in western Europe or not
Nope. Its been beaten now.
Is it just me or does Irvin Seller come across like a character from Face Jacker.

Don't worry TSB - I was watching and typing simultaneously!
Darloeye May 2nd, 2012, 11:30 PM Think someone should photoshop with hair in the 70-80's onto the top of the Shard
OhThatsHigh May 3rd, 2012, 12:38 AM I watched the documentary and missed Cisse's 2nd goal for Newcastle :(
Anyway good documentary they only had an hour and did a good job with it. I would have loved to have watched many more hours but there you go.
pingyao May 3rd, 2012, 12:52 AM Well I'll be watching it on catch up at 3 in the morning while feeding the baby.

pretty much goal of the season mate, here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysuQdnA2X_Y) if you didn't already find it. (sorry for OT)
I watched the match and then watched the shard doc on 4OD. Suffered from the usual tv documentary syndrome of making some breathless hyperbole type statements, going to ad break, and then repeating almost exactly the same thing word for word... if documentary makers could trust us to have a memory greater than 3 minutes, we could get a good 20% more information packed into the time slot. but, hey, I expected that, and in fairness it wasn't quite as bad as most documentaries are these days. and i'm not complaining really, i wasnt watching it for in-depth engineering detail as much as some nice photography, especially all the aerial, interior, time-lapse type stuff which we don't get so much of from members here - and it delivered on that front.
Also, I'm pretty chuffed we got an actual documentary about it at all. (As opposed to maybe something like "Britain's Got the Construction Factor", where tearful steelworkers regale us with their hard-knocks upbringing sob-stories before performing their choreographed spot-welding to the soundtrack of "Unchained Melody", get slated by a panel primarily made up of botox, before we get to chance to "save" them by phoning in for the low low cost of £1.50.)
OverOneThousand May 3rd, 2012, 01:23 AM Just watched it, was pretty good imo. Can't really complain for the first documentary we've got about it. There will sure to be much longer and more detailed shows and even series in the near future so it's all good
The Shard Master May 3rd, 2012, 02:05 AM No car stacker, restaurants area, swimming pool, BMU units/ plant rooms, post tensioned slabs.... and major stuff skimmed over like piling, plunge columns, the bulk dig, the foundations, the slipforms....
45 minutes air time was never going to be enough to do it justice...
bandy May 3rd, 2012, 02:28 AM No car stacker, restaurants area, swimming pool, BMU units/ plant rooms, post tensioned slabs.... and major stuff skimmed over like piling, plunge columns, the bulk dig, the foundations, the slipforms....

haha!
Got to say, after watching the documentory for a second time this evening i wish to see more. This forum has been a great look into how this has all been achieved and a real privilege for me. Really sad the major construction work is over.
All you guys have done an amazing job and you should all be congratulated, its hard for an outsider to comprehend the scale and tasks involved in building such a project.
What a journey its been. I know that every time i see this tower on tv, in a film, a magazine or in the flesh, i will remember all the time spent on this forum soaking in all the photos, details and explanations etc of its construction!!!
What a privilege!
Cat man do May 3rd, 2012, 02:40 AM .. and not a single mention of English Heritage!
thedurringtondoctor May 3rd, 2012, 09:24 AM Thought it was a documentary for people who had never heard of the Shard before rather than for a Shard enthusiast. Did I fall asleep or did they not mention the crane tacked on the side of the building? Cissé's goal was better.
I like the idea of turning it into a game show where simon cowle can con people into thinking they are good at something. Why not combine it with the Apprentice and get the contestants to build a skyscraper and then the panel of botox egos can pull the buildings to pieces like a real life game of jenga. You are the weakest link and oh look the building just fell down killing the studio audience. Well they were brain dead anyway.
Skyscrapercarazeeee May 3rd, 2012, 10:10 AM Yep,had to be concise, lots will be left out,but was good. Could have done with some more lingering shots of it..and the titles blocking the last lovely shot was annoying.
More to come i expect

Shed a tear for TC7.
Misty2k May 3rd, 2012, 11:52 AM Re: Documentary last night.
Watched it on C4+1 from my Hotel bed where I am staying in Livingston on business for a couple of weeks. I immediately tweeted that you could see my desk in the opening shot... You can definitely see my window on third floor of Cottons Centre, Tooley street and I reckon, with a good enough HD screen, you'd have seen my actual desk. Incidentally, I was in a teleconference when they were filming the aerial shots and the final piece of the Spire going up and spent half my time apologising for the helicopter noise.
As for the content, interesting but echo other's opinions that they could have made a mini-series. Maybe, when it starts being occupied, a longer series will emerge on a more niche (aka geeky) channel like Discovery or Nat Geo.
Hopefully this little snap-shot will engage those who are less aware of the project. They covered the headline moments I suppose but I'd love to geek out with a 4 part mini-series of it.

Gherkin May 3rd, 2012, 07:44 PM Who saw the program about the Shard last night?
It was pretty poor tbh... too much focus was placed on how many Olympic pools worth of concrete went into it, too much 'drama' resulting from old men looking at wind speed charts and 'Western Europe' was mentioned far too many times. I would have liked to seen more about the meeting between Sellar and Renzo Piano, the design evolution of the tower, the planning departments, English Heritage... that would make for a much better story than how many double decker blue whales worth of rebar go into each floor of western Europe's (but not Europe's) tallest skyscraper. There was about a 5 second quote from the project architect... that was it.

It wasn't a criticism, he seems to have made an awful lot of money in the rag trade, speaks like a used car salesman and uses a hair dye called "Midnight in Marrakesh":
Sellar got his first taste for business in the markets of Petticoat Lane in the 1960s. His father had turned the family home in Southgate, north London into a mini glove-making factory. "A batch of gloves was rejected by one store and a friend suggested he took a stall in Petticoat Lane. That was the start of it."

ferge May 4th, 2012, 11:18 AM Finally watched the 'Tallest Tower' documentary last night, very surreal to watch. Seeing those shots of Southwark tower being dismantled make it feel like yesterday, it is bizarre how fast time flies when you're watching something being built.
Looked absolutely amazing though from those flyover views, this is bound to gain a lot of international attention when the Games are on (and I really hope they do light a floor each time the Brit's win a gold :|).

The Derrick crane will be dismantled by a small Palfinger type crane, the Palfinger will then be dismantled by hand and removed by the internal lifts.

Indeed, the HMS Queen Elizabeth has been expensively reconfigured with CATOBAR flight operations, the HMS Prince of Wales is still notionally to be built as an STOVL (skijump) carrier however that is also being reconfigured to allow for the later installation of a CATOBAR system if required (presumably for sale). The review on the PoW hasn't been completed yet so it's all up in the air at the moment...
see what i did there?
Alas the QE will be the first Royal Navy Flagship too large to navigate the Thames into the pool of London, guess the HMS Bulwark and HMS Ocean are the best we'll be able to hope for in the future, Carrier would have made a nice backdrop to shard photos.

Bit offtopic, and possibly spoliery, but the sea level rises in Flood aren't caused by melting ice/global warming, so that doesn't apply.

chest May 8th, 2012, 11:30 PM Chest: you weren't knocking about on Duke Street Hill with a Canon 17-40 f/4L lens about 6:20 were you?
I was going to go over ask if the person wielding it was on SSC after I'd finished a shot of my own, but turned round and he'd gone.

almost certainly me...
Edvvc May 8th, 2012, 11:32 PM Superlative work, Rob. Great shot of the cranes and of the new BMU! It's got a lot of work to do for the hotel levels. They must be caked in grime by now.

Been a heavy duty lurker for far too long so here's my first post. Been following all the London developments over the last couple of years including The Shard and it's been a real pleasure seeing the photos of Chest, Cybertect, Lumberjack, Edvvc and all the other regular contributors so here's my humble photo from yesterday. I'm an unashamed London building follower and lets be honest there's a ton of good stuff been going over the last few years. I am also one of the Pinnacle followers in mourning but lets hope that's a temporary loss. Looking forward to seeing the Shard lit and ready by the time of the Olympics... Cheers!

spindrift May 9th, 2012, 05:58 PM This is grim reading, The Shard may be implicated in four deaths:
http://aseasyasridingabike.wordpress.com/2012/05/07/the-race-to-construct-the-shard/
This was, we are told, a ‘giant logistical operation, run with military precision’. Unfortunately this ‘precision’ did not seem to extend to an assessment of how realistic it would be to get this number of lorries to the site on time. Mark Devlin, the logistics manager of the site, says
London is a busy city, so let’s just say, six or seven out of ten [lorries] are on time.
That sounds impressive, but what it means in practice is that a third of the lorries arriving at the site were unable to meet the deadlines they had been set. I don’t think that’s because the lorries were pootling about, or their drivers were having cups of tea, or were waving ladies across the road in front of them. That’s not my experience of how lorries are driven in London, anyway.
What this titbit of information from Mark Devlin tells us is that the deadlines were not realistic, and drivers were presumably having to race to meet them. London is, and always has been, ‘a busy city’, and the way the deadlines were set should have taken account of that fact, and not left wafer-thin margins for delay.
David Vilaseca was killed on 9th February 2010, at the junction of Tower Bridge Road and Druid Street, Southwark by a Ron Smith Recycling lorry turning left. It is unclear whether this vehicle was involved in the Shard construction, but that is a plausible destination, given the left turn onto Druid Street.
Muhammed Haris Ahmed was killed in Weston Street on the 9th March 2010 by a Keltbay tipper truck, servicing the Shard.
David Poblet was killed at the junction of Tanner Street and Tooley Street in Bermondsey on 22nd March 2011 by a skip lorry heading to the Shard site.
Ellie Carey was killed at the junction of Abbey Street and Tower Bridge Road, Southwark on Friday 2nd December 2011, by an HGV turning left. At the time, I remember hearing this was a lorry delivering glass to the Shard, but as with the lorry that killed David Vilaseca, I cannot find confirmation. Again, the direction of the lorry suggests the Shard as a possible destination.
A left-turning Keltbray lorry servicing the Shard was also involved in this incident.

Sad for the individuals and their familes yes, undoubtedly, but to summarise "Life Causes Death".
Do we call for every business at either end of a motorway connecting A to B to be closed every time there is a multiple car pile up involving people commuting from A to B?
Again, not taking anything away from the loses, but statistics can be used to prove anything by someone with a (admittedly quite justifyable) agenda.
(IMHO).
danm May 9th, 2012, 06:42 PM I want to like the Shard, i really do, but i just can’t!
The top looks completely unfinished, what on earth are they doing with the exposed steel? It looks STUPID. The glass appears to be either poor quality (in contrast to the glass on 1WTC which reflects beautifully)
The red blind boxes are hideous.
It’s quite an eye sore and no matter how much i try to convince myself it isn’t, the fact remains that it is a ugly looking beast of a building. Southwark towers themselves were prettier.
You must be on drugs with that last comment....
spindrift May 9th, 2012, 06:53 PM It's peculiar that had any of those tragic deaths taken place on site the HSE would have been all over the place like a rash. Because it happened to cyclists on the roads it seems it's met with a shrug:
I have just read a shocking post by Mark (@AsEasyAsRiding) which lists the cyclists who have been killed or seriously injured by lorries directly connected with the construction of the Shard in London Bridge and asks whether the hopelessly inflexible management of this building project has led to the (literal) cutting of too many corners.
We recently also heard the result of the inquest into the death of Svitlana Tereschenko, who was killed on Bow roundabout by a lorry driver on his way to the Olympic site, who was talking on his phone (hands free, so technically legally), and had failed to indicate before cutting across her. This verdict is reported by The Cycling Lawyer, and prompts a very interesting observation in the comments, that had Svitlana been killed on the Olympic site, the HSE would have taken immediate action, but that because her death took place off site, responsibility fell to the CPS, who are consistently shite at following up traffic crimes.
This leads me to wonder whether we should be campaigning for the remit of the HSE to be extended to cover commercial vehicles no matter where they are.
Ideally we would have a prosecution service that actually took the carnage on our roads seriously, but perhaps the involvement of the HSE would at least offer a chance of civil redress, and force these companies to take cyclists’ lives seriously.
http://blog.matthewbutt.com/2012/05/07/should-the-hse-investigate-deaths-of-cyclists/
bobdobbs May 9th, 2012, 07:58 PM Yes, the number of cyclists killed or injured near London bridge recently has been shocking and its a black mark on the shard that its construction clearly has had an influence on this.
There really needed to be a 2nd holding area purchased within a few blocks which could have led to less time constraints being put on the drivers to feel they must make up time lost elsewhere en route.
There needs to be clear demarcation of defined HGV thoroughfares within London to help cyclists be extra vigilant on these routes and far, far better signposting for cycle ways not only to provide wider spacing from cyclists and general traffic but also for all road users to be reminded of the mixture of road users where fewer pedestrians (and therefore reminders) are visible to HGV drivers.
Peyre May 9th, 2012, 08:04 PM I am in no way trying to take away from the fact that people have died on those bikes, but why do we always automatically assume that it was the fault of the driver (be it a car, lorry or anything). There are some seriously idiotic cyclists out there, people who haven't done any sort of profeciency test or even understand the highway code, let alone wear the proper equipment.
Cyclists should not be anywhere near the left hand side of a lorry near a turning. I find far too many cyclists do put their life into the hands of others and think that they have the right of way to do anything and overtake anyone regardless of the situation.

I can't see that anyone has done that, although in most cyclist/vehicle collisions the driver (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/dec/15/cycling-bike-accidents-study) is at fault.
It must be galling for the relatives of the dead cyclists to see the hoardings advertising "Zero Deaths On Site" at The Shard.

Glom May 9th, 2012, 08:27 PM The crappy road network of London doesn't help things. When regular residential streets need to double up as primary routes, this kind of thing is going to happen.

Rash and careless cyclists are annoying.
Rash and careless HGV drivers are homicidal.

No worries, it is a pretty good view. You can’t get CW in the shot as well as there are trees in the way. There is a chest high iron fence between you and the view, so either bring a tripod that can get over that, or do what I did and just climb over the fence :)
-Edit-
Should point out, if you do climb over the fence you aren’t climbing into anyone’s garden or anything. It is still public land, the fence is only there as the hill on the other side is rather steep and overgrown.
Rational Plan May 9th, 2012, 09:34 PM What gets me angry is kids cycling on the road with no lights on. As a kid in Germany I can remember doing my cycling test. My bike had reflectors, lights, a bell and lights. But the main roads all had separate cycle lanes, mind you all German roads were much wider than British ones.
Also no one especially kids seems to have reflective straps or clothing. I don't think people realise how invisible people are at night even with streetlights. You can be practically on top of someone before you see them clearly. And then there little bastards who think playing chicken with cars is fun or the cycle in groups deliberately going in winding loops back and forth across the road.
I want to shake some sense into them, but you can't do that these days. So until one them gets hit by a car or a sense of self preservation none of them will learn.

Annoying, when lights are so cheap, but unlit bikes feature in just 2% (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/dec/15/cycling-bike-accidents-study) of collisions.
I am he May 9th, 2012, 09:55 PM I think with the shape of it, and it being very narrow at the spire it has a optical illusion of looking much smaller than it actually is...My dad was shocked when I told him it was the same height as the chrysler building when we were looking at it from Westminster - He could not believe it was that tall!
Its only at night when the lights come on defining each floor that you realise just how tall it is.
Core Rising May 9th, 2012, 09:55 PM PS: I recorded the program on my televivion, but how can I post it on the web, does anybody know?
Depends on your TV. Are you using a recording box, or the TV itself to record? Do you have a USB port on either one of those and an external hard drive or USB stick to transfer it onto? If not, do you own a digital camcorder? You might be able to transfer the recording onto a memory card inside the camcorder. Don’t ask me how though, I would just plug the camcorder in and then google how to do it. whether it is possible at all might depend on your recording device.

This piece makes far too many assumptions - it is not even ascertained that these lorries were indeed delivering to the Shard, and there's no mention at all of who was at fault for these accidents. It's a bit disingenuous for the author to make accusations based on a few presumptions. Until we have concrete evidence about the incidents I wouldn't read too much into it.

bobdobbs May 10th, 2012, 06:10 PM True, but as a Cyclist I can honestly say there are a lot of idiot Cyclists out there, down here less than half of us bother to stop at Red Lights for example. I see people take stupid risks every day, I am actually at the point where I feel it necessary to hurl abuse at them.
Ive not seen any evidence of cyclists killed died because they were reckless- its almost always because the driver was unable to see them. Not blaming the driver- Ive had both collisions as a cyclist, and as a driver with a cyclist,.. its about visibility, separation and clearly more can be done when numerous HGVs are scheduled to deliver to a site
spindrift May 10th, 2012, 06:51 PM That was fast, had a call from the Press Office, they said they are aware of just one cyclist fatality connected with The Shard two years ago and that's it. The gentleman I spoke with felt the documentary maybe emphasised things that weren't the reality, as tv documentaries often do.

Sorry about the size.
Sandblast May 11th, 2012, 12:03 AM Trolling? What does that mean?
Nope, I’m afraid it's not for me. I've tried to convince myself it's beautiful, I’ve tried.....and tried..
The fact is this, the shard is the Jimmy Nail of sky scrapers, Inherently ugly, but for some reason people tend to find it attractive.
Lovely pictures on here, of course, but let’s face it, Hirst chopped a cow in half and it sold. Ugly is ugly and the shard is a vertical turd of a building.
Are you having a laugh?! This building would look stunning on the skyline of any major city on the planet ..... get a grip!!!

Core Rising May 11th, 2012, 02:32 AM Nice images stealthinator00. If you are going to use Flickr to host your images, you need to post the BB code so it links back to your photostream. Flickr get very annoyed when people link their photos here and don't use the proper code, and have on occasion blocked all flickr images from appearing here because of people not linking back.

Hmm I've never had that problem. Might just be the server having a bad day with a lot of traffic. If the problem persists you should probably split your picture posts, each with 3 images just so you get the BB code in there. For some reason splitting one long picture post into several also helps speed up page loading times, which can be useful on a page with a lot of images.

bangyuk May 11th, 2012, 01:57 PM Exactly.
In an attempt to try and be impressive they have in fact managed to create a ‘oh no we’ve run out of glass and money look’. There are elements of the Shard that are truly impressive, ground breaking and imaginative. Unfortunately there are more elements that are cheap, ugly, crass and badly thought out.
A fair effort, but it’s a 3/10 from me.
Boo !
Each to their own, of course, but I think your view is rubbish!
There are examples of "completed" pyramids around the world, and I think they look lumpy, old fashioned, and dull. The spikiness at the tope of the Shard is exciting, definitely post-modern. It means that the Shard will be iconic for decades whereas a smoothed off pyramid would quickly be forgotten.
thedurringtondoctor May 11th, 2012, 01:59 PM I see the Shard as a speculum and I expect the top to open out more and more until it reveals the intimate spaces of heaven.
bangyuk May 11th, 2012, 01:59 PM Oh my god - the yellow lamps are soooooo cool!!
Why can't we have more interesting street lighting like this? Amazing...
Can I just say how much I enjoy being part of a forum where people get excited about lamp posts . . . ?:)
bangyuk May 11th, 2012, 02:05 PM Sad for the individuals and their familes yes, undoubtedly, but to summarise "Life Causes Death".
Do we call for every business at either end of a motorway connecting A to B to be closed every time there is a multiple car pile up involving people commuting from A to B?
Again, not taking anything away from the loses, but statistics can be used to prove anything by someone with a (admittedly quite justifyable) agenda.
(IMHO).
What a strange view of the world you have! "Death is unavoidable so why worry"? There is a lot that can be done to reduce deaths, indeed TfL has a comprehensive programme aimed at reducing cyclists killed by lorries. But as the OP on this topic noted, better logistics planing could have reduced the nmber of lorries driving round waiting for a slot, with benefits to everyone in the local area.
bangyuk May 11th, 2012, 02:06 PM Yes, the number of cyclists killed or injured near London bridge recently has been shocking and its a black mark on the shard that its construction clearly has had an influence on this.
Yes, definitely agree.
danm May 11th, 2012, 02:13 PM Had to pop out into deepest Essex today, drove back into London on the M11. There is a certain point as you come over a hill where the whole City skyline comes into view. The Shard - from that distance - looked absolutely huge! It looked incredible from that distance.
That view makes you realise just how much the London skyline has changed in recent years. Even just 10 years ago, driving southbound on the M11 at that spot all you would see was T42 and a few mid-rises either side of it. Now with the Gherkin, Heron Tower, Broadgate, Willis, Fenchurch street rising and the Shard the whole skyline has been transformed. With the Cheesegrater and (hopefully) one day the Pinnacle, it will only get better.
jermain1459 May 11th, 2012, 02:31 PM Can you show me where the accusations are in the article please?
A left-turning Keltbray lorry servicing the Shard WAS involved in the incident in the first picture, and Muhammed Haris Ahmed WAS killed by a lorry servicing The Shard. No blame is apportioned, as I've already explained.
Maybe The Shard construction team could clarify how many deaths their team have been involved in?
press@londonbridgequarter.com
Dear Sir
The article below implicates construction vehicles involved in The Shard in connection with four deaths, are you able to verify that this is the case please?

I completely disagree with how the Shard can be attributed to deaths by their delivery trucks. Anything happening ON site is indeed down to the site. Once you are off site how can it have ANYTHING to do with the building??
The Shard's logistical team are not in charge of the delivery companies or driver's, they don't oversee their training or check their experience or licenses etc. If anything TfL would be repsonsible considering it is happening on their 'site'.
Someone mentioned earlier that the Logistics planning meant that trucks where often rushing to site to meet delivery times. Is it not the fault of the driver for being late in the first place? By this thinking anyone who has an accident that was in a rush can blame the company they work for. I was late to work this morning so I was in a rush. If I had hit someone would this then be the fault of my parent company? NO.
The Shard has no blame to anyone or anything off it's site. (except design and ensuring contractors meet H&S and quality standards etc.)
Core Rising May 11th, 2012, 03:31 PM In your opinions, is the Shard a 'masculine' or 'feminine' tower?
Feminine to me. The Shard is much to elegant to be masculine.

You could still say that building the Shard cost four lives though in theory.
gorgu May 11th, 2012, 03:59 PM see at the bottom of the tower where there is three or four floors with all lights turned on?
I wouldn't be surprised to see the whole tower lit up like beacon of fire for the opening ceremony and the starting sequence to feature it and the lights flashing in time with music etc etc, I think we are in for treat of epic proportions using the city as a canvas!

I'm not sure it would be defensible for an employer to impose strict deadlines on their drivers, threaten fines if KPIs are not met, then shrug their shoulders and say "Nothing to do with me!" if the driver cuts corners, makes a mistake, and kills someone.

jermain1459 May 11th, 2012, 06:18 PM You could still say that building the Shard cost four lives though in theory.
That's true but it depends where you draw the line. I could say that a butterfly flapping its wings in minnesota which then changed the air movement which then affected this and then that and then this and then that which then caused a breeze that made the cyclist wobble and fall causing him to be killed.
You see my point?

Technically it's got nothing to do with him. If the haulage company couldnt meet the deadlines etc. that where set, and meet them safely then they should not have taken the work. Obviously alot depends on traffic etc. but again the haulage company should say that the demands are unreasonable and not take the work.

Tamron have made some very nice lenses over the years. I have an early 80s Tamron Adaptall 35-70 Macro that's as sharp as a very sharp thing.
Tip: knock back the aperture from f/16 to f/8 or so, then you can drop the ISO to 800 from 3200 and you'll end up with a much less noisy picture. If you use a tripod, you can drop the shutter speed and ISO a bit lower still.

I think you and chest have inspired me to take photography more seriously as I only got into it about 9 months ago. I just sold my bridge camera to get my first DSLR (60d). I also got the 300mm lens today with a x2 extender for my zoom shots.
