The current tallest building in Arlington County is rendered on the left.

You can read about it starting on page 12 of ROSSLYN Fall 2006 (http://www.rossren.com/rosslyn/content/files/2006%20Fall%20ROSSLYN.pdf)

The current best public view of dc from Arlington is probably the Skydome Lounge at the Doubletree in Crystal City. It is directly across from the Pentagan and beside Fashion Center sort of. You can see all the Arlington skylines and all of downtown dc. It is a revolving bar. Just be careful the liquor shots are about $12 a pop.

This is a fantastic idea, but what does the new building look like? I think it ought to be a monument all its own, not just another glass building.

Here's a render:http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/2492/image2md3.png The curvy Northrop buildings are on the left.

They look to be the initially proposed but criticized 450ft. I know that a previous 505fter was denied. But I believe once it gets the go ahead, it'll be ready to go. The only thing is that anything obstructing the view won't be considered. Oh well.

I think that render has the turnberry tower in the back, but it doesn't have the waterview towers.

The Washington Post has a story on this development in today's metro section:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/07/AR2006120701790.html

Being an aviation engineer, I find it amuzing how this developer plans to "show" the FAA that the commerical tower is only "a few feet" from the residential tower.

Well, Kathleen L. Webb, "a few feet" can be the difference between a structure being a penetration to the approach protection surface and not. Not to mention that tower is taller and closer to DCA...even if you aren't an airspace expert you should be able to figure out why the residential tower wasn't a presumed hazard while the commerical tower was...why do developers make so much money again?

Maybe the county should realize its "Manhattan" through Ballston and Clarendon, Rosslyn and Crystal City can be the 1980's-boring capitals of the DC area since they're just going to be in flight paths as long as the Reagan airport isn't a convention center.

So it is underconstruction. Man, that's great for my city (Arlington), that's one of my favorite cities.
