The fortune 500 company MeadWestvaco likes Richmond too. It has just been announced today that they selected a site downtown (beside the Federal Reserve Bank) on which to build their new corporate headquarters. This will add between 700 and 1000 new jobs to the CBD.

As usual, I really enjoyed these shots.

It'll be up to 300,000sf and be around 10 floors, but it's early and they say the design can change, including the size. It will hold about 1000 employees and is a phase in developing the rest of this land. Future phases include residential and retail near the canal.

While the height may be disappointing to some, it's important to realize the context. New Market (owners of the property) are trying to build a balance that blends between their Ethyl HQ on Gambles Hill and the towering Federal Reserve Bank Tower.
